Strength:

ITS NOT UGLY!!! You just have to get use to it... powerful engine, quick ass hell. Subaru are known for having reliable engines... but a lot of maintance

Weakness:

Damn stock spoiler is UGLY... i see way too much in Oakland. Needs the STI version, or maybe a 22B version???

Planning on buying one ever since hearing about Subarus from Gran Turismo 1. I wanted the older body in wrx form, but i was denied. The new ones looks weird at first but i think it grows on you. What people don''t realize is that the tail light looks a lot like a Lexus GS, just add two more round lights. Well i bought a Lexus RX300... now planning on buying the Subie next, but I''ve heard rumors about Lancer Evolutions coming out soon in 2004. The new Inifinti G35 is also coming out with a Skyline base platform, plus the less potent engine. 260 hp. So if you was gonna buy a subaru maybe you should wait for all the newer cars... but if u can''t wait and want something for a everyday car, but have fun doing it... get a Subaru!!

Strength:

Great price for a very practical & sporty car - The WRX is the poor man''s BMW M3.

Weakness:

The 1k mile break-in period sucks - nothing over 4k rpms.

For the price, this car really performs. I can''t wait for the tuners to refine their products so I can throw in a larger turbo, bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, and new exhaust...or I could just wait for the STi.

Strength:

Fast, safe, and extremely forgiving handling.

Weakness:

None!

I was one of the lucky few to be invited to the press release test drive for the WRX here in Canada. We had the opportunity to test drive both the wagon and the sedan with both automatic and manual transmission through a temporary test track to displace the capabilities of this car. I was thoroughly impressed with the stability and handling of this vehicle. This is an extremely forgiving car to drive. On one section of the course we had slam on the brakes after a high speed “S” turn, and not a single one of us manage to even touch a pylon. They had some professional drivers demonstrating the same cars that day, and what they did severed well to show the flexibility of the car. They load the cars up with passengers such as myself and go through the course. Amazingly with 4 full size adults in the car, we were able to accelerate and handle without losing composure on the course. In my opinion this is great looking car, the look fits the WRC theme. Aggressive lines with lots of character and exaggerated body panels. A lot of people complain about the interior and the lack of a sunroof and leather. Again what they have to realize is that this is a rally car, a no-holds-bar type of vehicle with the intention of going fast, anywhere. I think this is the intention of Subaru, function over form. In my opinion this car is the perfect combination of performance, safety and value. If you could find a car with 227 hp engine, AWD, side impact airbags, aluminum hood Rally Racing heritage, and Subaru reliability for under $36,000 Cdn. Buy it!!! The only fare comparison to the WRX would be the $60,000 Cdn Audi S4. To compare it to an Acura RSX would be comparing apples and oranges.

Strength:

Tremendous grip, tons of get up and go. Attractive exterior. Great seating position for and controls. There are too many vehicles a 6''2" person can''t fit in.

Weakness:

Stock tires. Slightly cheap feeling interior bits.

I don''t care what anyone says, this is a very good looking car. Then again I find mustangs and camaros to be ugly as sin. The closest car may be the RSX, but only due to the price and country of origin. Performance is worlds apart, and the RSX is a very bland boring car. Hopefully this car starts a new generation of "muscle" cars that don''t have to get 15 MPG to be sporting. Bring on the EVO VII and STI!

Model Reviewed: Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type RA

Strength:

Engine grunt in power band, ''sticky'' handling, daily drivability.

Weakness:

Too much handling roll, low-end torque non-existent or too heavy (maybe both), lack of steering wheel feedback, over-rated Brembo brakes.

I bought the WRX STi Type RA December last year. Yup, this is no typo; I live in Singapore, so I was able to get the fire-breathing version of the WRX straight from Japan. Ride quality might be too harsh for some. You can feel every crack and bump on the road. However, much to my astonishment, the steering feel is virtually numb. It is so ''lifeless'' that I''m afraid to push it to the limits because you can''t ''feel'' when the tyres start to lose their grip. Engine pull is acceptable around 3500rpm upwards all the way to the redline. Below that however, it is utterly disappointing. This is the worst lag I''ve experienced in any car. Handling is acceptable. It sticks to the road, but it rolls a lot. Firm springs, but suspension too pliant. The Integra Type R handles much, much better. Overall, I guess this is what I get for a ''cheap'' Japanese performance car. Remember that this car does 0-60mph in less than 5 seconds, yet it is very drivable. It has great power up the power band, but it can do better down low and in the handling area. Oh the price I paid isn''t a typo either. Singapore is notorious for being a place where you pay the most for a vehicle than anywhere else in the world.

Acceleration, AWD, Practicality, Fun to Drive... One of the ultimate cold weather sports cars. As the first signs of winter appear, I love the fact that my fun in my all wheel drive car is just beginning whereas most other owners of sports cars are thinking it''s time for storage - knowing that the cooler weather will actually increase the performance of the inter-cooler turbo. No need to worry about RWD fishtailing are loss or power to traction control - nor do I need to worry abount torque steer. The stealth factor - driving around in a seemingly typical econobox wagon that can blow the doors off 90% of the cars on the road - and give the other 10% a good run for their money. One day tearing around country roads having as if I owned my own roller coaster - and the next day transporting a convalescing relative, two animals in their cages, and a weeks worth of food and clothing - amazing!!

Weakness:

The only real complaint is that of gas mileage. Understandably, gas mileage is pretty poor when driving above 4000 rpm most of the time; however, even at fairly sedate highway cruising, gas mileage is not great, especially considering this is a 2.0 liter car. Tired about comments relating to the "low-rent" interior. The car is a substance over style vehicle, so if you are the type who needs a status symbol or whose self esteem is tied to their vehicle - look elsewhere. Similarly - car has all the needed ameneties but - nothing more. I personally hate leather and related features that are purely luxury oriented -that serve no real purpose and simply add to the luxury - but if you are into that - look elsewhere. Also tired of listening to comments about "turbo-lag", or "needs more low-end torque" - is there turbo lag and is the car lacking in low end torque - technically yes - but you can easily overcome these minor problems by adjusting your driving style. You do need to think about your RPMS and if you are not paying attention, the car will bog - but if you are paying attention and know how to drive this car - the car will sing. You can achieve "pushed to the back of yo

The perfect car...for me anyway. A car anyone can appreciate - from the most avid sports car enthuisiast to the most practical minded person. Amazing combination of sports car attributes all wrapped up into a completely practical package.

Strength:

Power, handling, awesome seats, looks that grow on you.

Weakness:

abs too eager, clutch can be a pain in town.

First off, I have to agree with some reviewers who only test-drove the car. When I first drove mine I was a little disappointed; the engine was rough and felt very tight...in fact the new 02 models are known for this, and once beyond 5000 miles things get much better. It''s smoothe and the boost kicksin around 3000rpm but kicks again at 5000rpm. The ride is incredible considering the handling available. It doesn''t have incredible grip but thats why it''s fun; you can get the back end round under power in the wet, and in the dry backing off the power brings the tail round nicely. I''m from the UK where wrx''s have been sold for years, and its true the older cars felt quicker, but mainly because they were less refined. If you use it this car is as quick as the old models, and much more comfortable on long journeys.

Strength:

Boxer engine, All wheel drive system, turbo, brakes. Functional Hood scoop!!!

Weakness:

the rear end of the car, need some body kit. Some people say the headlights (neon style, but there are going to be plenty of headlights conversion. Transmission, it only has 5 speed, and its not the most durable tranny.

Had this car for about 3 months over now, and I have 3500 miles on the car. Nonetheless, this is one hell of a fun car to drive. Perhaps if you like more classy car and have the extra cash, then why not spend it on Audi s4 or BMW 330 xi (AWD BMW). But the seats, driving position, pedals and clutch is just right for about anything that you can imagine, double-clutching, heel-toe-shifting, or even just simple down shifting. Gearbox is pretty closed ratio, and if you are thinking of modification in the later year, this is the right car. you can get 300+ WRX with only 3k worth of upgrades. And about that guy in the first post saying about how rsx is all the stuff. Sorry...... its front wheel drive and I was in that position too, and I test drove both, thus I took the WRX right after I test drove this baby =) Good luck

Strength:

Ok power, 4 wheel drive for the winter.

Weakness:

Ugly appearence. Looks like a neon-yuck. Turbo engine and all wheel drive, may have maintanance issues down the road. Subaru builds only a limited number of cars per year. Reliability??????? Turbo lagggggggggg. Poor Styling job. Previous years much better style. Very plain cheep, low quality materials in the interior. No leather seats, no sun roof. Plain dash board, and shifter does not even come close to the shifter in the RSX.

I was almost going to purchase this vehicle however I did not once I test drove the Acura RSX. I have to say that neither of these cars the rsx or the wrx has cutting edge styling, however the rsx does look more stylish not homely. The most noticable difference between the two is the interiors. The rsx''s interior is so much better. Leather seats, nice choice of dash material, gauges and layout are top notch. And the shifter in the rsx is so short and precise, well perfect, while the shifter in the wrx is rubbery and I had trouble getting it into first gear sometimes. Reliability wise the acura wins hands down. I currently drive a 1988 honda civic hatch with almost 400,000 km on it. I have never touched the engine just changed the oil every 6000km. It is known in the automobile industry that Honda builds the best engines-Period. So my recomendation is to also test drive the RSX before making any decisions on the wrx. Performance wise the wrx is marginally quicker and both cars have good handling. One other thing to think about is that here in Canada the wrx lists for $35,000 while the rsx lists for $31,000. save $4000
