Strength:

The fuel economy is unbeatable! The battery lasted me for nine years, I've cold started it in Northern Ontario for most of it's life, last winter it was the only car to cold start on the coldest day of the winter! This car never lets you down, I only have a 2WD and I've NEVER gotten stuck. I've got 140,000km on my car and I still have 75% of my rear brakes left, I have 50% left on my front (second set of pads). I also like the fact that no one but a Justy connaisour would ever steal it!

Weakness:

Sacrificing fuel economy to go over 100km/h.

I paid less than $8000 new, I don't know what the used ones go for now, I'll never sell mine! I would recommend it, but most people aren't up for it, I believe in quality vs. quantity, and the Justy fits in there.

I've driven most other small cars, Acadian/Chevette, Tercel, Protoge etc., the Justy is the best!

Model Reviewed: 4wd

Strength:

Very reliable. Had it in Minnesota during some very cold winters (-45 F) ALWAYS started. The 4WD was quite handy in bad snow conditions as well. Excellent gas mileage, always over 30 mpg.

Weakness:

Well, have to sacrifice acceleration for the gas mileage, so not the best here. However, for city driving it certainly more than held its own. AC gave out after 8 years, didn't feel like spending cash to repair it. Clutch gave out after 110,000 miles, so even that certainly is nothing to bad.

I would recommend it to anyone who is now looking for a cheap used car for city driving or a younger driver. I forget when they stopped making them, but I just recently got rid of my 1990 Justy...had neighbors asking about it and eventually sold it to my next door one. Is still running like a top for him...I wouldn't have done it if I thought it didn't have more life to it. In general, I believe Subaru makes very good cars, they will be something I consider again down the road...

Strength:

fuel economy---unbeatable! about $10-12 on a full tank! would last you for more than a week, depending on how much driving you do. more spacious than other compact hatchbacks around.quite a quiet engine for a 3-cylinder. it's incredible!

Weakness:

my engine started knocking at about 100,000km. my fault i guess. was not very vigilant about oil changes esp. (i'm a woman OK?)had my engine rebuilt and i've already driven another 100,000 on it.

car body started rusting after 4 four years, esp. the undercarriage and around the doors.tip: have a carwash twice a week, more often when there's snow.i had it repainted 4 years ago.

i paid $8,000 with 20,000km when i bought it in '90.only had clutchwork done once when the engine was rebuilt.it's been giving me quite a few problems lately because of its age, but i just can't let it go, and i guess others feel the same way too. i still see a few on the road. i've had to replace some parts through the years and i've saved some money ordering through the "recycled parts" websites.

i guess as long as you are very good about oil changes and the usual maintenance works, your justy will give you many years of good service.

even with all the money i've spent on the few major repairs, the money i've saved on gas through the years has more than paid for it.

i know i'd have to start looking for another vehicle soon and perhaps i'll go for a used Suzuki Swift. I'll bet it drives the same.too bad the japanese do not make any more 3-cylinder cars.

Strength:

easy 5spd transmission, comfortable seats, easy to repair engine, 4WD, great mileage, rear wiper.

Weakness:

it's rather small, the 4wd is stuck and the car refuses to work in 2wd, there's no lift kits, brush guards, etc. available.

I've only had this car for a couple weeks. The only repair needed on it was a new alternator belt. The 4wd is great on the snow. There's not much bad snow on my road, but it's fun on the side roads where they don't plow or drive. I was afraid I'd get stuck in that little car, especially after seeing a truck stuck a while back. Justy just took it like nothing.

Model Reviewed: Justy 4WD

Strength:

Good acceleration and speed. It keeps up at 70 mph. On-the-fly 4WD is a nice feature, although it doesn't snow where I live. I feel like it's an adopted child. Although it's small, it's quite roomy even in the backseat.

Weakness:

Makes a little noise in 2WD when starting from 1st gear. Gassy smell inside the car, but it needs some maintenance. A little smoking during idle but there was old oil on the engine. Getting better. Needs a better sound system, but I can take care of that.

When I first looked at the car, I didn't think much of it. After cleaning it up (a little Armour-All and a wash), the thing looks great. I like the fact that it has rubber moldings and bumpers, unlike newer models of vehicles these days. Nice features and quite peppy! It even has 107,000 miles on it.

Used to drive a 1986 Toyota Corolla. Corolla's engine temperature used to rise very high when idling, plus it has much less power and acceleration than the Justy. This is a better vehicle!

Strength:

well it dosnt compare to my done-up 87 monte carlo LS lowrider with the worked on 350, but, i made a custom intake and exhaust(no catylitic converter) and it spins tire in 2nd gear!

Weakness:

i wish it had a 4 cylinder

i am suprised..this is how i got the car: a good freind of ours is a car dealer.he but the car some 6-7 months back, took it off the trailer and it started then all of the sudden it died and did not have any spark.. i was fooling around with the guy and told him id give him 50 bucks for the 94 justy..it is like brand new..he thought it had a bad motor and he wanted to get rid of it so he agreed..i open the fuse panel and realize that the sticker is on backwords..it had a blown fuse buty according to the sticker it was jsut the head lights but since it was backwards it really ment the fuel injection fuse..i put a new fuse in it and drove it home..lol

Model Reviewed: 1000cc 2WD manual g.

Strength:

Very good fuel economy. Replacement parts are said to be very cheap. Very few malfunctions.
This is a great car for in-city driving, where you seldom reach 100 km/h.
Don't mind the price I paid for it. This is cheap for a used car in my country.

Weakness:

My car is 1000cc. It didn't handle well taking taking four people in an uphill 4 km long traffic jam. Towards the end - showed great weakness even in first gear.
If you live in a hilly area, don't go for the 1000cc model.
The car will start to eat up more gas at above 100 km/h and shows weak acceleration then, so it's not great for long highway trips.
Also, you can't put A/C because 1000cc is too weak to power it.

Bought this car with 102,000 km. I've had almost no problems so far.
The inside stuff (dashboard, seats, trunk, radio) are el-cheapo.
At 8 years, the driver side door opening mechanism is partly ruined, probably from rust, as it has been exposed to rain water coming in from the window's slit. The other doors are working great though, so this might be my fault.
My car doesn't start as easily as some other reviewers reported. I suspect this is fixable but my mechanic couldn't. However, it does eventually start - always.
But bottom line - it gets me to anywhere I want in the city, cheaply - and that's all that really matters.
