Subaru Justy
Strength:
Reliable. Always started and ran. Simple. Fits a suprising amount of cargo with the rear seats folded down or removed. Best radio reception of any car I''ve ever owned (strange but true).
Weakness:
Slowest car I have ever driven, especially after the compression started to go off. Gets no respect at all on the highway. SNIFF! We finally delivered our Justy to the junkyard with 130000 miles. My girlfriend bought the car new in 1989 and I''ve been the caretaker for the past 5 years. The final straw was low compression on two of three cylinders. It was overheated badly several years ago and I think the low compression was eventual collateral damage. I had the head cut and replaced the head gasket but it was never quite the same. We''ve been using the car as a winter beater since ''97 and it has been great. This was the first year I''ve spent more than $100 maintaining the car. Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
Lack of used parts and price is high Only 63000 mile, automatic, air, 4wd and four brand new tires, but through a rod going down the interstate on the second motor. I thought I would put a motor in it and make a little money but little did i know that the price of a used engine cost more than the car is worth. But i did manage to buy a motor for $700.00 and installed it but the automatic trans will not shift now. To make a long story short I have had the motor and trans out three times to try and figure out why the trans will not shift not to mention trying to find someone willing to just look at the transmission. I have come to the conclusion there is no power on the micro switches on the gas pedeal but do not know where it gets the power from. Needless if it ever gets fixed its going down the road and I will never look at one again. Similar Products Used: None |

Where do I start? Started out fine when I bought the car with only 35,000 km (who knows what that means in miles?). Drove it through the Rockies to Saskatchewan and put on 35,000 good kilometers. Then all hell broke loose and has continued pretty well non stop. Similar Products Used: None |

Excellent fuel economy.4wd makes winter driving a breeze Reliabilty is unbelievable and last a very, very, very, long time. Can't beat a subaru just keeps going and going forever.
Weakness:
nothing I WOULD DEFINATLY RECOMMEND THIS CAR!!!! My good old justy has lasted for 13 years and NEVER been to a shop. My dad bought it brand new in 89 and past it on to his daughter who unfortunatly messed it up a bit but never never ever let me down. The reliablity is extrodanary. I don't know why Subaru quit making these guys. For a 3 cylinder car, and over 200,000 miles on it, you just can't compare to anything else. This is really an amazing little car. I lived in Wisconsin where the snow is up to the radiator. Justy handled it splendidly. This car is the epitamy of reliability and I wish I never sold it. Similar Products Used: honda accord 89--- Great car but for winter driving,it sucks I really miss the 4wd on the good old Justy |

Strength:
Gas milage is great, acceleration is suppisingly good, top speed is 95, corners great, heater works great, plenty of room.
Weakness:
none really, its pretty solid, three cylinders, five gears! Zippy! I commute 3 1/2 hours per day, with my 325lb. buddy, that's 600lbs. of people, 75 to 85MPH on the freeway, everyday for the last year. I love this car. 37 MPG if I keep my foot out of it, so I always get 34, not bad. Similar Products Used: 3 Subaru wagons my parent had, 2 were very good, 1 was a serious dud. I think they fixed the problems and started making better engines by 1991. |

Great gas millage. My 4WD 4Dr.plus hatch will go anywhere, anytime in any weather. I have passed cars, suv's and other 4X4 in the smow and kept going... You can put as much in it as you want. Low maintenece if you keep up with regular oil changes etc. It has real gauges, no idiot lights. You can park anywhere you want.
Weakness:
Parts are very $$$, automatic has poor pick up, standard is better. 1990 Justy owned from 1991-1998, I traded it back to the reconstructive private dealer I had bought the first one from for a 1991 Justy. I still have the 1991 today March 2001. 1990 was a 4WD 5 speed 4Dr. hatchback no AC. I needed a car that I could put my String Bass in comfortably. The Bass fit, so I bought it. I enjoyed the standard but missed AC. #2 Justy is automatic, not as much power, but has AC. I bought a recliner-rocking chair at an auction and it fit along with everything else I had purchased. It is the same color as the first one and it took my "mechanically minded" nephews almost 2 years to realize it was a different car!!!! It is also 4WD, hatchback. I recently had a deer run into it and am waiting to see if it can be repaired, minor damage to the front corner panel plus light, but parts are scarce.... If I can't get it fixed, I will look for another Justy. Similar Products Used: I've owned 2 Justy cars, 1 standard,1 auto., both reconstructed. Owned a Civic and Corolla, I prefer the Justy, no contest. |

Weakness:
LACK OF POWER, PART$ ARE EXPENSIVE IF YOU CAN FIND THEM, LOUSY TOP END SPEED, RIDES LIKE A RIGID FRAMED HARLEY, ATTRACTS TO MANY LAUGHING OGLERS, POINTING OGLERS, I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE OVER THE PURCHASE OF A MID SIZED SUV DUE TO THE FACT THAT I DRIVE 50 MILES A DAY JUST TO AND FROM WORK AND I NEED A GAS MISER. THE 25MILES EACH WAY ARE ON SECONDARY JUSTY SIZED FROST HEAVED ROADS. I WORK ROTATING SHIFT WORK AS PART OF DOD SECURITY FORCE AND IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT I MAKE IT TO WORK. THIS SHOEBOX WITH TIRES POWERED BY THREE SCAULDED CHIPMUNKS HAS BEEN ONE INCREDIABLE LITTLE RUNNER. THE MOTOR HAD A SLIGHT KNOCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT AT 90,000 MILES AND 40,000MILES LATER IT STILL HAS THE SAME KNOCK.CHECK THE OIL ON FILLUPS. WHEN THE ROADS HAVE BEEN SHEETS OF ICE, THE LAUGHING POINTING OGLERS ARE MY PASSENGERS. THERE CAR OR SUV IS IN A DITCH OFF THE ROAD. I'M VERY WELL PLEASED WITH THE DURABILITY OF MY TRUSTY JUSTY. NO SUV INSURANCE HIKE TA BOOT! IF YOU CAN'T TINKER ON A CAR DON'T BUY ONE. GREAT GROCERY GETTER. MY 3 DOGS (LABS) LIKE TO RIDE IN THE BACK. IT'S BEEN AIR BORN VIA FROST HEAVES CROCKPOT FULL OF CHILI EVERYWHERE. NO DINNER FOR WORK THAT NITE. LOOKING FOR ANOTHER MOTOR, THE TRUSTY JUSTY IS A KEEPER. Strength:
It gets good gas milage. It's very small(If thats what you like) Gets around anywhere. I took mine 4-wheeling once. It's nice for beginer drivers.
Weakness:
It's too small. I've only had it for 6 months, and I've had to take it into a shop 3 times!!!! Paid over $700 getting it fixed(Didn't have a clue what was wrong with it) I got it fixed, but I say,it has less than an month to run. The car has no power. The Jap's who made it,just put it together without thinking. I LOVE Subaru's But the Justy,Just a very Sh*tty car. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. And it's VERY unsafe!. When one thing in the engine is bad,the whole thing goes to sh*t. I've had my Justy for about 7 months, and have had a horrable time with it. This car makes me go crazy! I HATE IT!!!!!!!! Similar Products Used: It's very good in snow, compared to a Pontiac,or any car for that matter. |

Drives anywere anytimes - never get stuck, never failed. Owned it from new on and never thought it was a bad deal. The best japanese Car I know. After 16 Years very litte rust in the back door, although all the years parked on the street. Very minor work required, only a few broken parts over the years.
Weakness:
Only a few dealer and shops. No literature available. Expencive Parts. I won't let it go. Have parting out another one to stay it alive. It's my all day driver, which helps me to have fun with the other cars like '55 Pontiac Chieftain, 71 Pontiac LeMans Convertible, 64 Alfa Rome Gulia Spider, 63 Cadillac Sedan and so on. Whithout my Subaru I couldn't serve the other cars, 'cause they are not the dailiy drivers I need. I love it. Similar Products Used: Never had a equal car. |

Justy 1.2i 4WD,
Strength:
Economy, 4WD, even if it´s basic, worked great on snow, sand, mud, everywhere!
Weakness:
The fact that it is not manufactured anymore, parts are not widely available. I had 3 Justy´s, 1990-1991, 1993-1994, 1994-2000, my car never let me down, it moved fine on snow (on the mountain road), fine on dirt, on sand and on the highway. I fully recommend the car, it almost made me cry when I sold it, but at least I´m changing it for a bigger ($) one!! Similar Products Used: None |
