Strength:

The V-6 engine, luxury at an affordable price.

Weakness:

Small gas tank. Placement of passenger window controls (on other side of gear shift)

I love this car. For me, this is a move up from the 97 SW2 I owned previosly. I just got tired of the whole wagon thing and wanted a roomier sedan, something more luxurious. I thought about the Toyota Avalon and the Volkswagon Passat, but got tired of seeing them on the road. The price and reliability of Saturns can't be beat. I got the LS2 with leather seats, upgraded CD stereo and moonroof for under 23K. The handling is far superior to my old Saturn. It hugs the road on curves and feels heavy and substantial. I expect to keep this one for a long time. I'll try to review again after 6 months or so. I would recommend this car for small families or people wanting to make a small move-up from an econo car, without sacrificing value.

Strength:

I bought one of the first LS2s and think it is a great car for the money. It handles well, rides well, has plenty of power (V6), lots of interior and trunk space, and is very comfortable. The V6 is very smooth and fairly quiet, the transmission shifts very smoothly and doesn't seem to be a drag on the engine.

The dealer, Saturn of Richmond, has been great to deal with. I owned an SL2 previously and always received great service from the dealer. I would recommend them to anyone. I was going to trade the SL2 for either an Accord or Passat until we tried the new Saturn. We liked it so much we bought a second one, this time an LW2. I also like the dent resistant polymer panels and the stainless steel exhaust system.

Weakness:

The Firestone Affiniti tires, would like something that holds the road a bit better, especially on wet surfaces. Haven't had any trouble with the gas and brake pedals as mentioned by other reviewers, must be my smaller feet.

The car was ordered with all the options except the spoiler. I think it looks better without it. The cost was $23,680, if I remember right. I would definitely recommend the car to anyone looking for a car in this price and size range. Between the car and the dealership, it's a hard combination to beat.

We've driven both the LS2 and LW2 to New England and were not worn out from the trip. In previous cars (smaller Saturn and Honda) we always arrived very tired. We really enjoyed taking the larger Saturns on long road trips.

Have owned Honda Accords in the past and like the feel of the Saturn LS2 much better. Tried the Camry and didn't like it. Liked the Passat but would have cost $5000 more for the comparable model. Passat also had narrower tires; surprised for a car that is supposed to be a better handling car.

Weakness:

Small gas tank, very poor interior cloth wore out 4 times already on door panel where you would rest your arm. Also the seat covers for the bottom and back are being replaced now for showing wear. The car has only 10,000 miles on it. Problems with the engine in cold weather 3 warning lights came on, service engine, low coolant, also wrench light.Happened at 5 below zero temp.

Filing lemon law as soon as possible, very poor interior. Also need a reliable car in cold weather.

Strength:

Quiet, Nice Handling, Good suspension, Confortable Seats

Weakness:

Peddles are to close together, ABS and traction control not standard

The Staurn LS rides more like a European car than American car (it should, it was designed and engineered in Germany). The handling is superb, and the suspension is firm. The peddles are a little to close together, but you do get used to it. Also, the window controls are located in the center of the car which is a little odd. I really like the firmness of the controls. It feels like it is really put together nicely compared to some other cars and their rotary knobs. The 2.2L 137 horsepower is the best 4-cylinder on the market. It also gets excellent gas mileage for a family sedan.

Pedals too close together, I do miss my V-8

I am leasing this vehicle for $300 a month, $1500 Down. I honestly don't see why anyone would buy an Accord over this particular vehicle. It has more features for about $4500 less.

Thanks to Bob for reminding me to come back and post this.

Almost 4000 miles on our LS2 now. My truck sits and barely gets any miles put on it as we prefer the comfort of the LS2.

We haven't been able to take the car on a trip and so most of the miles are commuting to and from work. Lately traffic has improved and we are noticing a slight increase in the gas mileage. Still waiting to take it cross state and see what she gets.

No major flaws or problems to report as yet. Still catching my foot on the gas pedal but working on my positioning. Driving with the sun roof open doesn't blow you out of the car even when going 60mph.

That is about it for now. Will post again after a lengthy road trip in a couple more months.

Go Saturn!

Strength:

The car's V6 engine provides enough power on the freeways and when carrying a full load. The sound system on the LS2 performs very well. There is tons of room both in the cabin and the trunk. The styling is very distinct (reminds me of a Saab 9-5 or 9-3).

Weakness:

Small gas tank. Plastics used in the cabin and instrument panels were not the best. The LS2 with the rear spoiler limits the view from the rear view mirror.

The Saturn LS2 meets my present and future needs. It can accomodate my wife and me as well as kids (down the road). It has enough room for luggage and groceries. It provides pretty good gas mileage. I definitely like the styling, the power and the stereo system. I paid $24k + for the vehicle and the price is still a pretty good value for the car. It has the sunroof, leather, rear spoiler, upgraded stereo. The buying experience is first rate. There was no pressure and the dealership gave us enough information and support throughout the whole buying process. I saw and read about the car in a newspaper review before I drove it. I was actually pre-sold. I knew that this would be my next car because the styling was somewhat unique and the features were complete. I would definitely recommend this car to people interested in value, comfort and performance.

Similar Products Used:

I drove a Nissan Maxima SE (1991) that is similar with the LS2. Although the Nissan only had 160 HP (compared to the LS2's 180+ HP) the Nissan's engine was more efficient. The sound system was comparable. The LS2 definitely had more space (cabin and trunk) than the Maxima.

Strength:

V-6, great trunck, plenty of headroom and legroom in front and rear, great layout on the major controls, value/options for the money, much improved sound dampening over the SL

Weakness:

The gas and brake pedals are too close ( my right foot has actually caught the back of the brake pedal more than once ). Car makes a high pitched whine when the gas pedal is not depressed( ex after passing another vehicle ).

We saw the new LS the weekend that the cars hit the dealership and were really impressed. At the time, we knew we needed to get a larger vehicle ( we both had SATURN SL2s ). If you currently own a SL series and love the car but need more space, seriously consider the LS. I agree with Sean's review, if you can do it, get the LS2 with the V-6. We purchased ours right before Christmas for the Christmas vacation ( $21,xxx.xx, base price LS2 + optional upgrade to the stereo ). The car handles all kinds of roads/road conditions great so far. We drove the car through a rain, sleet and snow storm. In the SL2 ( we owned a '96 and two '98's ), I would have stopped the car rather than drive through that kind of weather. In addition, we were not nearly as exhausted after the 10 hour drive. We attribute that to the entire package that the car represents. The weaknesses we've noted so far are nothing compared to the benefits of owning this vehicle. Even though I love my SL2, the LS2 is a great car and I wouldn't hesitate in purchasing another one when it's time to trade in.

Strength:

V6 engine, comfortable seats, no hassle buying, nice interior layout, Price

Weakness:

brake pedal and gas pedals are too close together for those of us with large feet.

Bought the LS2 sedan with all the trimmings just over a month ago and love it. We planned on getting the Accord before we saw this one at the auto show. For the price (~$4000 less than comprably equipped accord) you can't beat this car.

My advice is get the V6, as is standard on the LS2. High end torque really kicks in when passing on the highway.

Ample room up front and back. I am 6'3" tall and have no problem apart from the pedals being a bit too close. Seats are very comfortable and with the power seat option you get the seat warmers which are nice on those cold mornings.

For the fully loaded LS2 which is the top model, the price is $24,180. Spring for the upgraded stereo if bass is a concern to you, adds a subwoofer that really adds to the overall sound quality.

I will write another review after a few more months of driving this car.
