Pontiac Sunfire
Strength:
Handles nice, good in the snow (just go slow), large trunk, a lot of space up front as well as in the back seat.
Weakness:
head gasket went at about 150000 miles, spark pluges gave - made it not start until they were replaced, and what finally did her in was the timing chain broke and bent the valves. This was such a great little car. It finally died (but it had 188,000 miles on it). There were a few problems but considering how hard I beated on it, it's expected. |

Strength:
Super gas mileage, mediocre acceleration, great handling, smooth ride, rarely needs matinence.
Weakness:
Sputters HORRIBLY when started up (very embarassing in busy places- everyone looks), a magnet for lose shopping carts & asswholes who leave door dings. Super little car with alot of try in it. Looks sporty, great gas mileage, backseat lays down for larger trunk capacity, comfortable for someone around 5 foot 5... Sunfire Coupe
Strength:
Usually gets me back and forth to work which is 5 minutes from home.
Weakness:
Radio goes on the fritz and can't see the numbers or time. The brakes have had to be replaced and the shocks. Numerous things replaced after the check engine light comes on... Which it is on as we speak and the car stutters wants to die when accelerating and stopping. Had all sorts of electrical problems. Had to replace the whole fuel system since they can't replace just the fuel line since in this car it is all attached and is one part!!! So that was a good $1,000 right there alone. The axcels sound like they will brake off soon. The car doesn't like to start if it is too hot or too cold. The trunk is very small and the light broke out of it. The back seats are pretty useless. Had to replace tires soon. For awhile in the winter the car would rock up and down when I came to a stop and had the brakes pushed down. I could go on and on. I will probably not buy a Pontiac or GM in the future. Yadda Yadda Yadda... at least they are a lot cheaper usually these days. Too many problems and recalls! Although I hear a lot of cars have been having recalls lately.

Strength:
Good on gas, good looking car, back seats fold down, stereo's good for being factory in a small car, interior is simple and clean , engine will take a good lickin', handles OK for a FWD.
Weakness:
No match for any of my friends' cars, an idle problem started at 55,000 kms, transmission whines in fourth gear, right rear taillight lasts about 5000 kms, steering and alignment seem to be issues for this car, door panels rattle like crazy when the stereo's turned up, the clutch is too deep, after 68,000 kms the front tires are toast- and not from burnouts, I've seen many other sunfires with similar tire wear, it's governed at too low of a speed (175 km/h). This is a pretty good car, it's got enough jam (over 5000RPM) and it's really good on gas. I have the 2.2l ecotec w/ 5 speed, and I wouldn't have this car any other way. This car has 68,000 kms. Everything... great gas mileage, looks nice, handles well.
Weakness:
NOTHING, except the check engine light has been on for about a year. I didn't even pay $4000 for this car and have absolutely no complaints! I bought it from a friend of the family who rebuilds cars that have been in a car accident so I got a deal. This baby gets excellent gas mileage, I've only had to get 1 tune up and have the rotors on the breaks replaced. It's going on 3 years and it has been great. |

Safety, stereo, looks, reliability, price, gas mileage.
Weakness:
None I bought this car in the summer of 2002. Since then the only thing I've done is changed the tires and brakes at around 45,000 miles. I always changed the oil at every 3000 miles and rotated the tires at 6000 miles. Recently I was hit head on by a truck driving in the wrong lane. I was wearing my seat belt and the airbag deployed. I walked away from the accident practically unscathed. I have no complaints about this car. Similar Products Used: Past cars include a Volkwagon, Oldsmobile Achieva, and a Toyota Pickup |

4Door Sunfire SLX
Strength:
price, appearance, speed, price of parts, availability of parts, ease of repair, ease to upgrade performance and appearance
Weakness:
regular maintenance require slightly soon than some other cars I have had no problems at all with this car. I researched the car before my purchase of the vehicle as any normal person would, so common issues with the car are: strut mounts, control arm bushings and wheel bearings. These item tend to to be basic maintenance on all vehicles but seem to the more common to need replacement between 60 - 100,000kms on these vehicles. All the aforementioned parts are both inexpensive and easy to replace if your mechanically inclined. The cars appearance is great and easy to make the car look sporty with inexpensive upgrades. The cars computer is based upon a C++ language platform allowing for aftermarket programming. This computer can be reprogrammed to increase hourse power easily to 170hp. After this upgrade I have had very few cars able to pass my or even come close, very very fast for a 4 door sedan. Its fun to see other sporty cars try and fail misserably to pass my sunfire. The sound system is also great with separate tweeter for increased highs in the front doors allowing for a headunit upgrade. i reccommend the Kenwood KDC-MP7028 which has three way crossovers allowing you to upgrade to a subwoofer without having to replace the interior factory speakers. All in all buy the car you wont be disappointed. Similar Products Used: 99 Sunfire, 2000 echo, 97 Astro, 96 Corrola, 2006 Civic SI, 2006 Celica, 2006 Mitshubish Lancer Rally Art |

Pontiac Sunfire
Strength:
It's appearance, sound system, glove compartment size, gas-tank lockdown, personalized radio settings per driver (with key).
Weakness:
Trunk, defrost system, brakes, taillights, suspension, automatic features (such as their keyless entry range and power windows malfunctioning), oil filter location is awkward, seatbelts lock up (without brakes being pressed). This car is quickly failing in my opinion. About 6 months after I bought it, the right taillight went out (common problem... okay...) So dealer fixes it and about 4 months later left taillight does the same. Dealer then tells me that the entire back end needs to be rewired. They take my car for two days, rewire it, and hand it back all shiny and new. About 3 months later my car starts stalling at about 35-40 mph. Not fun when you have people driving around you. I was told this was a recall issue and that my computer needed to be updated in the car. Okay... Another day. The car has problems with ignition on wet days, along with brakes squealing in reverse (which again is common but an annoyance). My air conditioner gets condensation onto my floor and makes running it kind of... well, pathetic. As of about 4 months ago the taillight started up again. No burnt bulb, just randomly switching between working and not. 2 months after that my horn went out (which I still haven't gotten fixed)... it simply clicks but does not make a noise. And the icing on the cake is tonight: my driver side window is stuck open because something has caused my button for the driver side window to malfunction. The passenger side and the sunroof still work (so far... crosses fingers). This concerns me for two reasons: one, my warranty is almost up and for me to have to keep replacing trivial stuff with my car after it is up would really irk me. And two, if the morons who wired my car can't wire/re-wire a taillight properly, what happens when my brakes go out? Also, as others have stated, when it rains and I open my trunk, the water goes straight into it. The defrost is automatically set to turn on the air conditioner when I choose defrost which is a pain when I just want hot air on my windshield and not some lukewarm medley. On the positive side, the sunfire has a decent amount of room, a very good sound system, and... well, it looks pretty good? Similar Products Used: Dad and Mom both own Pontiacs but they have never had any problems like mine. Makes me wonder if the sunfire is just a half-hearted attempt at a car. |
