Strength:
always starts in the coldest weather, it is nice and quiet inside it seems to be a fairly decent economoy car.
Weakness:
poor location of heater controls and the trunk lid pours water right into the trunk when its opened. the tilt steering column seems to have a spot where it wont lock in and will move either up or down one click. this seems to be a pretty good car so far. i bought mine used for 1800 bucks, and it has 208,000 kms. it runs as good as any new car and drives just as well too. the steering is tight and responsive the engine seems to have plenty of power and the trans shifts much better than i thought it would. the seats are comfortable and are great for long rides. fuel mileage i have found to be around 35 mpg on the highway, at least it is when it's about 25 degrees below zero. i think it will get better once it warms up. 11 days after getting this car it has been in the shop. it has less than 87,000 miles and is a horrible car. the car comp i got this car from will NOT do anything about it. so i am stuck with a car that stays in the shop until i can trade it in.

Good looks. Great gas mileage. Parts are fairly cheap.
Weakness:
Hubcaps are kind of cheesy. Needs rims to look good. I bought this car from a friend and have been very satisfied with it. It has great acceleration, good looks, and has never left me stranded. Oil changes, a new tire, and she's good to go. Highly recommend it as a daily use vehicle. Similar Products Used: 1996 Sunfire. 1995 Sunbird convertable. |

Strength:
cheap, reliable, safe in a crash
Weakness:
gas mileage should be better I average 25 mpg with driving 40% highway and 60% city, shallow dash, rattles, hood doesn't fit properly This is my first, and so far only, car. It is a great first car. I've had it since I was 16 (I'm 21 now) and have had little problems. However, the vehicle is just now hitting 59,000 miles. I have had to replace the alternator, serpentine belt, rotors, drums, and pads. Not bad for a vehicle nearing 10 years old. The car is very loud and rattles alot. If you are going to put an after-market stereo in it, it will stick out an inch. This is due to the dash not being deep enough to handle it. The hood is not sized properly for the car, and it will shake a little at high speeds. This is a common J-body problem. |

Excellent fuel efficiancy, 38 MPG

Fit and finish not the best
I have been a life long VW and Toyota buyer and decided to give GM a try. I purchased the Pontiac Sunfire for it's good looks, low price and sporty feel. I was not dissapointed! In fact, I can say this without any hesitation- **The Pontiac Sunifre was the best value of any car I have ever purchased**

looks good, good stereo system, good fuel economy,
Weakness:
small trunk, noisy ride, interior is very basic, Bought at 37 000 km Driven for more than a year, about 40000 km so far, unusually loud rattling sounds come from the dash board(reported it to the dealer in the first week after purchase, and thier answer was 'sunfire's rattle')i guess they were right because the rattling has been going on for about 2 years now, nothing seems broken. very good on gas looks good, a lot stiffer and heavier to handle than any car i have ever driven. Also requires a lot more effort when braking. so far had to have front brakes and rotors changed(started whistling) had to change a pressure valve close to the gas tank(engine light came on), its reliable enough so far, Just have to make sure to do regular maintenance. Perfect first car, sporty and fun for a very modest price. Gets a lot of attention!
Weakness:
The cupholder in front of the shift knob is highly annoying...the only thing I would change is that. I just bought this car a month ago as my first car, and for a 1998 it is in near perfect condition! I had it in to the mechanic for a check-up and he said it was one of the best Sunfires he's seen in the longest time. At 110,000 miles it still runs like a brand new car! Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 SE
Strength:
Looks great, even 8 years later. Gas mileage is great. Transmission still feels good after 8 years (and I hammer on it - and I live on a 45 degree angle of a hill). No problems in the snow (yes - you do have to go slow, it is Front Wheel Drive). Great as a starter car for a teenager/young adult. NOT a luxary or even mock luxary car.
Weakness:
The radio goes on the fritz and I can't read the numbers/time. There are 2 or 3 recalls on it, but I never got them fixed and I never had a problem. Oh! and the seatbelt hurts my neck - it's too rough. This has been a loyal little trooper. So far I've put 106,000 miles on it and I've only had to replace tires, breaks, headlights and the signal stick. People have no idea how old it is because it's so sleek and stylish. Great on gas mileage (as if anything is great on gas mileage these days). I'm 5'5" and I find it very comfortable - I would recommend this car to a female looking for a random date, as I get a lot of stares while in it (OK OK just kidding). This car is a small, compact car. Do not buy this little guy for space (although the back seat does pull down to extend the trunk), the back seats are not easy to get into if you're more than 150 lbs.
