Strength:
- GREAT performance with the supercharged 3800 V-6! - Decent gas mileage on the highway, approximately 22-23 mph on a daily basis (my commute is primarily highway driving) but, I've seen better on long, highway trips (28-29 mpg). - With the BOSE speakers, great sound system. - Firm, supportive bucket seats. - Great cupholders! - In my opinion, hot styling! = I hope I don't jinx myself here but thus far, great reliability! I'm surprised it's been as reliable as it has been! - Still tight and rattle free!! - Optional mileage/trip computer is slick!
Weakness:
- Four wheel disc brakes can be dicey to operate in the wet weather. It feels like the car isn't going to initially slow down after prolonged exposure to wet weather conditions. It's always does, but.... - Electrical system gets funky at times. Main power window switch on drivers door won't operate other windows all the time. Windows will go up/down once you activate the switch directly associated with that window. - Biggest problem I've had? The key not coming out of the ignition when you turned the car off (approximately 50,000 miles)! It ended up being some sort of defective "switch" associated with the shift linkage in the interior center console. Cost to repair, approximately $150.00. Not expensive to fix but what a hassle! - Blower fan associated with heater/AC has been repaired twice. The first time (approximately 20,000 miles) it was a defective switch covered by the 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty. The second repair (90,000 miles)was on me! Again, not too expensive but of course, it died in the middle of a heat wave when you REALLY want/need your A.C. - Many passengers complain about the car's low stance, getting in and out gracefully can be a challenge! - I'd like to see more complete instumentation including an oil pressure/temperature . - I wish GM would go back to offering a longer warranty (like the old 4 year/48,000 mile deal) on initial purchase. I've been VERY happy with my Pontiac Grabd Prix GTP since I purchased it back in 3/01. With 100,300 miles, this Tin Indian has never let me down! Great looks and performance for the price and very comfortable to drive! I'm still not bored on my daily commutes thanks to the 240 horsepower supercharged engine, this car moves! Nice, steady handling in addition to the performance make for a great overall package! I've got the BOSE speaker package along with the single CD player and it's got a great sound still! Heads up display if not only cool, it allows you keep your eyes on the road while checking your speed! I'll miss this baby when it's eventually time to say good-bye! Strength:
-Power -Front is roomy -Exterior looks (pre 2004 only) -Parts & labor cheap compared to foreign cars -Front seats are comfortable -Not a brand that gets stolen very often (like Honda & Toyota)
Weakness:
-Cheap pleather seats -Cheap controls -Very loud wind noise -Extremely difficult to see through driver's mirror -Steering very unsteady and rough -Doesn't always start right up -2003 has less head room than previous models -Poor handling -Trunk reservoir collects a lot of water which floods your trunk when open it -VERY poor milage (less than 19 MPG highway) -Reliability and safety test scores are not great This is my second leased Grand Prix. Previously I had a GT and it was a really tight car, never a problem, started right up, no matter the weather. Handled great, drove great. But this 2003 model is not great. The steering is rough and unsteady. Holding on with both hands is a must, as it's easy to lose control. The car sometimes has trouble starting, as well. The driver's mirror is a joke; the interior lights dip so low that they obstruct the view in the mirror, making it pretty difficult to see anything properly that's behind you. Very dangerous. What idiot okayed this mirror? The automatic dimming (for night time driving) is annoying as well, as it comes on automatically, so you have to shut it off everytime you turn on the engine. The interior is still cheap and plastic-looking. One whack and you could easily break the console or the dash. I knew the car had a cheap interior, I leased it for the power, and the room. Plus the exterior is cool-looking (although I think the new re-designed 2004 model is UGLY! The "Heads Up" system is really great; you can see your speed reflected in your windshield which means you don't have to take your eyes off the road to see how fast you're going. Excellent feature that I wish all cars had. Overall, the Grand Prix can be recommended only to people who want a lot of features for less money, but who plan on leasing only, as American cars are not meant to last, and Pontiac is no exception. The crash test numbers are not great, and the reliability ratings aren't, either. I don't plan on leasing or buying another Grand Prix again. In fact, this is only the 3rd American car I've ever had, I've always bought Japanese; you can't beat Japanese quality. If American car manufacturers ever give a crap about quality, maybe I'll reconsider. Great Styling, handling.
Weakness:
Engine reliability, and all the small things that annoy you, like cruise control, and the automatic headlights. I enjoyed this car, for about twenty minutes. Thats how long it took for the cars alternator to fail after I drove it off the lot. 21,000 miles later the cars engine needed rebuilding. That did the trick for about another 15,000 miles when the problem came back. The cars AC was a huge hassle, had to get it fixed four times. The cruise control was not very reliable, and the automatic headlights would turn off and on all the time. When the car did run, I ejoyed how the car handled, and I really like the styling, and the interior was great. Its just all the failures that made me want to put a brick on the accelorator and let it go off a huge steep hill so I could see it explode, that would have made me happy. I would not recommend buying this car to anyone. Similar Products Used: 93 Cavalier Z-24 (great car) |

Big and roomy for those of us under 6'. Big Trunk. This car just looks mean and angry, like the Pontiacs of the 1960s and 70s. But unlike those cars which were only fast in a straight line, this car doesnt care if the road is straight or twisty...Just make sure you hold the steering wheel with both hands when you put it to the floor. Passengers and other drivers think I'm crazy for taking turns so fast in a big car, but really the car asks for it.... Very powerful off the line, will simply leave most other vehicles in the dust...... Supercharger whine is cool too and even more pronounced with the K&N air filter upgrade, gets 31 MPG HWY as long as I dont get into it....It's big and powerful. It's fast. It handles great.
Weakness:
Cruise control likes to turn itself off, same thing on my 97 Grand Prix GT...Even though I don't smoke, the ashtray should have a light in it....Leather front seats are hard, but the back is nice and soft...Gas mileage is terrible around town I simply had to have the GTP because I liked my GT so much. I bought this car brand new with 4 miles on it. All I can say is that Pontiac hit a home run with this one. At 164,000 miles, it still kicks a-- and I like to drive it. This car has been very good to me, its been all over the US and Canada. Only major item that has needed to be replaced was the catalytic converter. Similar Products Used: 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT |

Strength:
Plenty of space, good power, handles well, good sound system, heated seats, love the heads up display!
Weakness:
The power windows take a while to go up. The transmission blew at 70K miles, fault of the owner before me. He blew the first one and when he had it replaced he had it very cheaply done. Have really enjoyed this car for the past two years. Runs well, good power. Looks sporty and still have plenty of leg room. Similar Products Used: none |

Power,looks, 3800v6 is a great engine
Weakness:
Riped my front tires up in winter(ice build up in the wheel well and the 16" doesnt match well in the snow). Electronic problems(headlights sometimes wont come on when the inside fans are on, won't release the key in the ignition some times), rear controller arm bushing came loose at about 50,000 miles. Loved the car at first, still like it. Similar Products Used: Uh, other cars |

power. acceleration. looks. fun to drive. traction system(very useful when it rains)very comfortable even on a 1000 mile trip. good trunk space for vactions. good fuel mileage 28-30 on highway.
Weakness:
i worry about getting in trouble for spinning tires since it does it very easily. steering vibrates slightly on sharp corners if you hit the throttle too much. everybody wants to race when they see the gtp decal. too many truck drivers honk at my wife when she drives the car. straight town driving brings mileage down a bit more than other grand prixs i owned. this is my third grand prix, and i like each one even more than the last one. my first one, a '79, went over 200,000 miles, and my next one, a '94 went 228,000 miles. maybe i am biased because i have wanted a gtp ever since they were introduced, but i have had nothing but fun ever since i got it. the steering is solid and handles well even on wet pavement. i like the small amount of throaty exhaust noise and the way the supercharger whines when you open it up. my wife really likes the car also, and now thinks screaming tires is fun and not just a guy thing. for a working guy with two kids and a wife, who can't afford high priced imports, and really doesn't want one anyway, this is a very fun sporty car that will still be fun with your whole family along. Love the controls on the steering wheel and the heads up display. Heated leather seats are awsome in the winter. They heat up before i'm even out of the neighborhood. Plenty of leg room. I am short but my husband is 6'1 and it fits him fine. Nice back seat room. Not huge but not small like my Camaro. Good trunk room. This is my first 4 door and it was an easy transition from the Camaro.
Weakness:
Electrical problems. SRS Airbag light has been on for about a year. (I said my husband was a mechanic remember.) Low resale value. Inside is kinda noisey on the freeway. Inside door panels are flimsey. Bought the car in 1999 and now thinking of selling. I totally loved this car until about 3,000 miles ago. I have 77,000 miles on it and have been having electrical problems. Front passenger window won't go down, display is out, no heat/air. It has been a good car aside of that. I have thought of buying another one but would like something with better resale. My husband is a mechanic and says the 3800 V6's are the best motors out there. Car is showing signs of wear with the paint but it is 6 years old now. Thinking of buying a Lexus. Similar Products Used: Chev Beretta, Chev Camaro |
