Strength:
The head up display is additive.
Weakness:
It's a big car, so it doesn't get that great a gas mileage.
Absolutely love the car and really regret that GM/Pontiac stopped producing them. The 2000-2005 body style is great looking. The Pontiac engineers did an amazing job of taking a car this large and smooth riding and engineered it to corner like a much sportier car. I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP as well, and this corners way better, with much less torque steer than the lighter Grand Prix. The Northstar V8 is smooth and powerful. I get 22-23 MPG on the freeway driving 80 MPH, and 18 to 19 around town. I can used the mid-range gas (even though the manual recommends premium). Some people critize the red background lighting on the instrument panel at night but I think it looks great. Also, I have read reviews critizing the rather busy instrument panel, but when guests get in the car (who drive Mercedes/BMWs/Lexus) I get a lot of compliments. I guess they don't realize that an American car can have so many options. I bought the car with 10,000 miles on it for $16,500--I think I got a great deal. I have driven it all the way across the country, and it is the smoothiest most comfortable highway car I have ever driven. The miles just went by--850 the first day, 1000 the second day, 1000 the third day, and I was alone--I wish I could go again tomorrow!

Strength:
Looks, reliability, speed, options, winter driving, trunk and cab space, simply a comfertable ride
Weakness:
At about 200,000 the top interior felt started to let loose...cosmetic and cant really be considered due to years of use. Engine areas can be compact so that some higher maintenance cannot be done in the garage. This has probably been the most reliable car that I have encountered. My parent bought it in 96' from a dealer in Grand rapids. 30,000 miles were on the odometer. After numerous hockey trips to the 4 corners of the US and Canada it never failed. Sleek look, incredible gadgets like heads-up display, dual automatic lumbar, even an air pressure pump in the trunk to fill tires or what not. This car had it all. Amazing in the snow with the traction control. Power sunroof, auto dim on th mirrors, great trunk space, basically this car had it all. I acquired it in college after the rents got a new car. That should say it all, a college student. I can't even think of what I didn't do in the car. But here I am, 221019 miles later and she is still going strong. Regular maintenance and oil changes were the key. Basically, if you keep up on the basics, this car will last you and your kids a very long time. Payed for itself Plus.... smooth ride. Decent reliability.

Upper Intake defect. Why did it take GM so long to fix it ? And they wonder why people are buying Hondas and Toyotas. Waited a few years before I wrote a review. Overall, I'm happy with my Bonnie. Bought it in Dec 2003 with 68K on it. Now I have 93K. Problems I had are the upper intake, starter, fuel injection pressure regulator ( car was stalling every couple days) and a engine light condition that set me back $300 at the dealer. Since the engine light problem was fixed about a year ago, no problems (knock on wood). Very smooth car. It rides better than my father's Lincoln Town Car. Nice looking, fairly cheap price at 44,000 miles...of course until the manifold goes.....
Weakness:
C-5 transmission ????not sure...those are known to blow at around 80,000...thats funny never heard of a transmission blowing before...under the normal course of a vehicles life Hey guys thatnx for all your reviews...I was actually in the process of looking at a 1999 Bonneville SE and decided to view your comments and Im very happy I did...I will not be purchasing this cat unless owner is willing to come down 1500 at least which would cover any future"melted manifold and engine damage" THANK YOU ALL!!! I was first intereste3d in this car because I had once an '87 Bonneville which was very simple, six cylinder, nothing high tech, basic transmission and lasted a long time...but it seems as GM tries to go high tech they caught the Japanese only by the heels as they (the Japanese) left them in the dust....Toyota take me away. Cars should only have any minor problems at around 95 to 100,000 and only a few hundred dollars in repairs at that...and even after that nothing major.....that is quality!!!! It seems that between the late eighties and 2005 it has taken GM 15 some odd years to put out something descent according to the latest in Consumer reports on the 2005 GM Bonnevile SE.....let me guess....Japanese parts???HAHAHAHA GM should be replacing all your intake manifolds for free!!!PERIOD!!! SO I guess I will make my pitch to this Gentelman on Friday and offer perhaps $3500.00 minus headaches... and if he were to accept...I would still be hesitant....Again thank you all...would never have known...looks like its going to be a Camry..at double the price at double the mileage.....but at triple the quality. Of course have had good luck with my Ford ranger even with the rough transmission...but thats because I've babied it all its life for fear of costly breakdowns. |

Weakness:
Just some minor things which i can live with. The A.C. vents. You can not aim them at the drivers face. After this hot summer i missed that feature in my other car.The vents behind the steering wheel. All the air hits the steering wheel. But that is minor. The A.C. works really great nonetheless. It is true what you have heard about water running in the trunk when it is raining and you open up the trunk lid.Big problem that can be overlooked...especially when it is not raining and you dont need in the trunk at the same time ...lol.Who the bonehead is that designed this trunk needs to give his head a shake.Oh ya one other thing. If you buy one with out the leather interior and you want to put a childs car seat or anything permanently sitting on the rear seats, put a blanket down andfold it over a few times to protect the material from the carseat mashing it down. I had one in there that was only sat in periodically and i have a rectangular mashed down imprint on the seat that wont come back.It is somewhat noticable.I have a thick blanket down now.So other than those minor items...no problems Well i bought the car.No problems as of yet other than the brakes are squeaking all ready.I've put almost 8000km on it in the 3 months i've had it.I just love the car!!!!Handles and rides like a dream. Its the nicest car i've ever owned, and it sure does look sharp too.And yes they are a pretty fast car so long as you dont drive the crap out of it you should be ok.I love the daylight sensor that turns the lights on for you whenever it's getting dark. You never have to turn on the headlights.A couple of days ago i fit in 4 bags of golf clubs easily in the trunk. I'm definitely glad i didnt back out of the deal. All these reviews almost stopped me from buying it. I must have spent 6 or so hours reading the reviews and got pretty scared...lol.If you like the car....buy it.Dont get scared off by other reviews. Its an awesome ride and it is pretty good on gas too.If you buy it take care of it!!! Regular oil changes and tune ups are a must!! |

hate the cup holders; too shallow. Upper intake manifold defect I first bought my Bonnie for $5500 w/70K on it. The first year or so, I had many problems, most just nuisances. For example, every now and then the car would stall. Start right back up. After going back and forth with my mechanic, it turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. Another problem I had was the engine light kept coming on. I finally had to go to the dealer since my mechanic could not figure out what was wrong. Turned out to be a purge valve or some such thing. The "biggie" was the good ole Upper intake that everyone knows about. That set me back $600. The starter went but you expect starters to go on any car. For about the last year, I have been problem free (knock on wood). The car is very reliable and is running great. My father has a Lincoln town car and let me tell ya, the Bonnie's ride is as smooth as the (much more expensive) Town Car. Similar Products Used: 1995 blazer. this was my first full sized car |

I would have to say that overall this is has qaulity written all over it. I especially like the engine response that it has
Weakness:
I dont care for where the cruise control is located at but that is really not a weakness. Everything else is perfectly placed where it should be This is one awesome car. It has everything but heated leather seats. I feel like I stoled this car for the price I paid for it as it has all the bells & whistles. It has plenty of power & handles very well tight traffic. I dont care what others might say or think about this vechiles you owe it to yourself. Go out & test drive one & you'll fall in love with one. from what ive heard...Wow!!! Holy smokes!!!!!I bought the 1998 Bonneville Se on Friday just b4 the long weekend started. I am supposed to go pick it up tomorrow. After reading all these reviews, i'm not sure i really want to.I gave the guy a $250 down payment. Had some kind of oil leak 5that he said would be fixed. I'm not so sure that it will be. The auto trader here only had 5 bonnies in total for sale ,so i thought that was a good sign. If so many problems are going wrong with it why are there so few for sale? I dont know what to do now...lol. Take a chance? It has 149,000 km on it or 92000 miles. Took it for a drive and just loved it. The trunk release on the door didnt work either. He said it will be fixed as well as the oil leak.Last thing i need is a money pit, especially if the motor needs to be replaced caused by the intake gasket?!! What the hell is that all about? Talk about Mickey mouse!!!! I'll Talk to thew guy tomorrow and see what he says |
