peppy engine, pretty comfortable ride, nice sound system
Weakness:
transmission sux, cheap material inside, engine''s not refined enough, not heavy enough to be cruising at 90mph without feeling like being blown away by the wind it''s an okay vehicle, good enough to be used during warranty protection. but i personally wouldn''t buy one. Strength:
It has decent room for a small family. Have taken many trips with it. For the price I guess it held up ok.
Weakness:
Squeaking brakes, head gaskets, tight engine configuration...have to take everything apart to get to one thing. I do not recomend a Neon. I have had major work done for the head gaskets..if I would have known this I never would have bought it. Similar Products Used: Chevy Corsica, Plymouth Champ, Dodge Colt |

Dodge Neon
Strength:
The Neon is a peppy, fast little car for the money. For the first two years, I was very pleased with the roominess, comfortable seating, the gas mileage, and the respectable pick-up....then the warranty expired. (continued...)
Weakness:
I've replaced enough parts on this car...that not much of the original car remains! I had to replace the windshield (anyone notice bad optics with the windshields?!), the battery twice (in just four years), the entire air conditioning system (over time...to a tune of $3,000!)...and numerous oil leaks: The oil pressure sensor switch ALWAYS is needing replaced, I've replaced the head gasket, and transmission seal. I get a lot of wind noise from the front passenger door...and anytime I place anything large in the trunk, it tends to BREAK the wires connecting the rear speakers to the stereo!!! My sister in law has a '95 Neon...and only her contempt for SATAN compares to her hatred for HER NEON! I don't know about the new Neons...but I hate mine. I'm getting rid of it as soon as possible...and telling all my friends to stay away from Neons. Chrysler products in general, I hear nothing but bad things about! I paid about $15,000 after financing for my Neon. I'd recommend Chrysler to continue offering the Neon for $1.98 apiece! (But only if they offer a $2.00 mail-in rebate!) Similar Products Used: I drove a Ford Festiva for seven years...beat the heck out of it, and it always held up great! That car was 1/3 rd the price of my Neon...and FIVE times the value! |

Strength:
I like the bug-eyed look, strong engine and good A/C
Weakness:
Oil leaks, specifically the head gasket - replaced at 19K on the Plymouth Neon and cam seal can go bad, but it didn't on mine. The Plymouth Neon scored much lower than the Dodge Neon here in this survey. Maybe I'll have better luck with my new (used) Dodge Neon. (yeah, right!) :) Other than the head gasket problem the Plymouth Neon I had was a fantastic car until I traded at 26,6000 for a Grand Voyager ES (Best purchase I ever made by the way...) Traded my old piece of junk '90 Caravan that was losing it's transmission for another '98 Neon on 1/29/01 - bought used with only 4600 miles - what a find! I know the head gasket will go someday, but the salesman said they'd fix it with the MLS gasket for $100 from me. (Can I RREALLY believe a used car salesman???) I'll fight it and try to get it for free like some other Neon owners have successfully done. It's Chrysler's design flaw. Some annoying wind noise, especially on the highway and windy days. I think the '98 design is the coolest on the road, no other car looks like it! The new Neons look more like the generic small car. Consumer Reports has given ONLY the '98 it's reliability check mark (meaning average reliability) any other neon, including the '99 got a below avg. reliability score (even though the '99 got more "red circles" {best} than the '98 in C.R.). Overall excellent and I hope this "new" green '98 will take me around for the next 10 years because I hate haggling with salesmen! 4 stars value because I felt it was a bit too expensive. 4 stars overall because of the head gasket. When mine goes it'll be replaced wiith the MLS (Multi-Layerd Steel) gasket and be fine for good! Watch the cam seal for oil leakage too. Oh, lastly, my cousin at Midas says the Neon rotors are terrible because Chrysler was too cheap to put a splash guard around the rotors. They get pitted from water and road salt and often won't take their very first turning before being cut too low to be legal. Count on replacing the rotors at your first brake job, which can be as early as 30K miles. About $225 job at Midas, he says. He also assured me that Midas rotors are as good as OEM rotors. Too bad they don't make 'em out of stainless steel - but what do I know, maybe that metal is too soft. Enjoy your Neon! I do. Size, low seating position, very capable chasis
Weakness:
3-speed auto. For gods sake, take the 5-spd. NVH a bit on the high side (Noise-Vibration-Harshness) Bought car (new) for girlfriend. Top-of-the-line, with every option you can get on a Neon. As it happened, I am driving it now. 100% reliable so far (2y, 25K miles). I do not understand the problems others are having. I bought this because a friend was very satisfied with 2 other Neons. Only problem so far: Electric sliding sunroof motor had erratic behavior. Was fixed under warranty within 1/2h, $0. If it had a 5-speed it would be a perfect match for my needs. Similar Products Used: All kinds of small cars. Neon is more fun to drive. Sorry Honda and VW, somehow this is just more fun. Has more torque then Honda's and it feels more capable then VW. |

I have just purchased this Neon about 4 months ago. It was second hand. When I first drove it, it seemed to drive nice. I got a shop to inspect it for me and was informed that everything was ok. The only things strong about this vehicle is good gas milage and a good sounding car stereo which you will need to kill the road noise.
Weakness:
Since I have purchased this thing its been nothing but PROBLEMS. I paid 4,000 for it and it has already cost me another two just to keep it going, and the worst thing is, I've only had it for 4 months. The Neon has demonstrated a huge lack of power and is hard on head gaskets. The amount of road noise is incredible. Just so far I have replaced the head gasket twice, IAC motor twice, O2 sensor and all struts. There is a large area on the hood where the metal is rusting right through. I know I live and Canada and we have snow and its cold, but this is the first time I have ever seen this happen to any of my vehicles in the past. I am getting rid of it as soon as possible. It appears that most people are saying the same thing about this product. As I mentioned earlier, I just got this vehicle about 4 months and it is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. At one time I thought alot of Dodge/Plymouth products but thanks to this car, I have lost alot of respect for this Company. Was this vehicle ever tested? If so, why was there never a recall done of the head gaskets????? Incase you dont know, it is expensive to repair this ongoing problem. Strength:
This car is small, I love the front end, it gives you a lot of room to move around in compact areas. When you got to get somewhere it takes you there.
Weakness:
IT HAS TO GET FIXED EVERY MONTH! The transmission is very jumpy. This car decided to die on me at 4 a.m. in the rain on a major tollway. Lights went dim. We jumped the car 3 times which was just a waste of time. So many things went wrong with this car that night. I had only had it 4 months. The head gasket was leaking, the belts broke among many, many, many other annoying expensive works. I have never had a car with this many problems. It only goes so many mph before it starts to bump, and you don't have to go very fast to get it to that point. The price was at first $9,900 but we got her down to $6,000. Do not get this car if you are looking for a car that won't need a thousand dollars worth of work every month. I give this car a very bad review. Similar Products Used: None |

Acceleration is awesome. 4Wheel disks are beautiful. Can outrun civics. Lots of space inside, 100miles on less than five bucks of gas, kinda cute in a funky way.
Weakness:
Small, Wind noise It's fast and cheap. Corners like it's on rails. Plenty of aftermarket parts are available, and at least you're not driving a civic like every other kid. But I'm scared now that I've read these reviews. I'm waiting for something to explode. I give it four because it's fast and cheap, but three overall because of resale and reliability.
