Strength:

Little rust, paint is in good condition, very well kept up interior, no dents, has all emblems on it, v-6 engine ,so not to bad on gas, even though I only have to travel 1 & 6 tenths of a mile to work:-). No leaks that are significant any ways, just some seapage. Rides like a car that was made for pure enjoyment, handles great. This was the car of many peoples dreams...

Weakness:

Needs shocks, tires, ''stabilizer bar, for the front'', brakes, & front end alignment. Thats about it. The car is not in that bad of shape at all. Oh ya it has 150,000+ miles on it:-(...

I had just purchased this well built car a week ago today. I bought it for a winter beeter, and I must say, that it is in pretty good condition, for the year. I was supposed to let my wife drive it, but she doesn''t like it? So, I''ll be more than glad to drive this beauty. I''ve owned a lot of cars through out the years, ranging in ''68 Chev Impala all the way up to ''99 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. I''ve had Oldsmobiles before, except never had a Cutlas. I will be making some minor repairs on it eventually...

Strength:

Serious pickup, can make the car look sporty, good gas milage, roomy.

Weakness:

Cheap, dated, maroon interior. Too many little things go on it too fast. 3.3 only offered for 1 year, I wonder why.........

I own a 93 Cutlass Ceira and although it is a great first car, it has its problems. I bought the car off an eldery man who died, and the car only had 80,000km. At around 90,000km, the engine makes a wonky noise during acceleration, the brakes squeek, the door hinges came loose, the dash is loose and rattles, the transmission makes a loud clunk when changing gears, the pw are slower then molases, the front struts are toast, the whole exhaust rotted out, and the car lighter no longer works. Other then that its been a great car..... (sigh) 3.3 litre V6 is a power house, even though car has loose handling, tires are too small and howel all the time. Tint the windows and put a system in, add an exhaust tip, rims, and wider 14''s on her and she will beat any Z24 on the street.

this car is a peice of crap. i would not recommend it to anyone. it''s slow and it has terrible braking. i only paid $1000 for it because i bought it from my g-mom, but i feel ripped off. i''ve only had it 8 months and it''s costed me over $3000 in repairs. i don''t feel safe driving over 50 mph because the brakes don''t work at all. i''ve already been in one accident that could have been avoided if the handling and braking were decent. i don''t like the car at all, in fact i would enjoy watching it fly off a cliff.

v6 pickup, nice interior layout

Weakness:

rotors, window trim, therostat

Olds cutlass v6 has great pickup, very suprising, nice ride and clear view from inside. Cut corners very nice. Problems with rotors after 1 yr were worn out, door trim was replaced and therostat went out, thats a big bill to get replaced, 2 1/2 hours, chevy garage wants $193, i used a another garage for $115. Nice cd system, seating is so so, not that comfortable, trunk nice space.

BEAUTIFUL! Nice Sporty (but safe) car. 165K Miles and still going strong. Minor repairs (simple upkeep of the car). Can get up and go.

Weakness:

expensive to replace parts such as foglight lens, starter, etc.

Car is a dream. Still runs smooth after 165K. Just general upkeep that is a bit expensive caompared to other vehicles.

Strength:

Everything. Interior perfect. Paint perfect. Engine perfect.

Weakness:

Had squeaking in front end first month. Dealer replaced both bushings on front end. Never heard a squeak since!

In October of '95 my wife and I were searching for a car with all the extras of a Camry, Accord, Maxima and stumbled onto the new Cutlass GLS. Talk about surprised. 5k less and everything to match except for the reliability record. Being a new model they're weren't any records avail.

The interior blew me away at first. All leather, 100watt cd, elec windows, cruise, map lights, 2 stage remote keyless entry, extra AV outlet, trunk release, tach guage. Most of all, it didn't have 15 things attatched to the turning signal. Nothing to break off if hit by accident. Extremely solid feel with no rattling noises at all. Even after 3 years. It's always been driven on paved roads though.

The exterior has clean lines and I loved the fact there wasn't an emblem anywhere to be seen on the car except for the olds logo in the front. No emblems means no rust and no replacement necessary! 15" alloys with no chips to date. 37k on the tires but will last 'till 40k. Will replace with original equipment when time comes. Paint is great with no defects. I wax it every 6 weeks or so and the car has never been garaged. I was surprised at how well the paint has survived due too the fact that we originally lived in West Palm Beach Florida where the sun is brutal to anything exposed, and we now live in Valdosta Ga where it aint much better, humidity is around 85% all day everyday. Rust would have showed up by now. Not a spec has popped up. Thanks GM!

Now the engine. We've not one problem with it. The battery went after 35k but it was due. We get the oil changed every 4 to 5k. Always run Super Unleaded (it's worth the extra 2 bucks, believe me). Belive it or not but we took a trip to Myrtle Bch this past July (hot), ran the AC the whole way and averaged 70mph and got 29.7 miles to the gallon. I swear. It's only supposed to get 29 on the HWY. Nice surprise. Had my wife do the math twice 'cause I never got better than 27 (but I was alone going to DC averaging around 80).

I still get compliments on the car, inside and out which surprises me sometimes, from anyone who has never been in a GLS. Simple but clean!
Do yourself a favor if you're looking at a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan, try the Cutlass GLS. You'll thank me and invest the 5k saved in Nokia stock and in three years you'll have 20k extra in your ROTH IRA!!!!!!

Strength:

1997-cheap reliable transportation - impressed w/3.1L
1995-3.4LDOHC Black convertible+23yr old maledriver=good experience
1994-good power out of 3.1L, good looking Maroon Exterior
1987-307 V8 was a great motor- put 80K on this car with almost no problems
1981-Good Looking car

Weakness:

1997-cheap interior materials (due to last year of model)
1995-never had to, but heard 3.4L is relatively very expensive to maintain, poor MPG (granted, lead foot)
1994-brakes were a nightmare, security key is costly and worthless, bad radio position
1987-expected more power out of a V8 (granted, it was a legacy '80s vehicle), otherwise great 4 year experience
1981-Old 231ci V6 is crap, no power / poor mileage

Oldsmobile, as a brand, is the diamond in the rough.
The Cutlass Supreme line was the sparkle in that diamond.
Great looks, decent reliability, and low maintenance costs make this model a great choice.
Reguardless of the awesome power of the 3.4L DOHC, stay as far away from this motor as you can. I had a great experience with mine, but honest mechanics everywhere will repeat that warning.
The Convertible was also loads of fun, but the handling and overall feel of the car is poor at best.
The Older RWD '80's models are an excellent choice if no frills and extremely low cost and hassle maintenance are what you are searching for.

The funny thing is is that the engine was built with an erector set I think, just by the way it always seems to break, always. And the funny thing is, is that when it breaks, it breaks expensively. it can't be a gasket, but The internal computer as well.
