Strength:

Power, acceleration, handling, looks

Weakness:

None that I can think of, other than some torque steer due to massive power going to front wheel drive. Nothing that can't be handled but something to note.

This is no ordinary Alti. I switched from a G35 Coupe to this and have not been disappointed. Granted it's front wheel drive vs the rear wheel drive of a G but the fun factor is still there. The power is awesome and so are the extras. Beautiful interior and great exterior look. This is the same engine as the older G35 so there is no problem keeping up with anything out there. I have had no problems or issue with the Altima and would recommend it to anyone.

Made cheap. Too much plastic.

I have owned several nissans in my life and this is the biggest piece of crap i have ever had. It has been in the shop what seems like more than on the road. It is still under warrenty thank God! Everything from A/C to transmission problems. I will not buy another. I am upset because all the other nissans were built to last and never had single problem with them. This Altima is cheap and like a nightmare. I read reviews before i bought and I just never dreamed a nissan would be this bad.

Overall reliability

This is my third Nissan and will be my last. Ever since they started building these cars in the U.S. the reliability and quality has gone down the crapper. My first Nissan was a 1998 Maxima SE. Best car I've ever owned. Luxurious. Fast. RELIABLE. After 2000 the cars feel so cheaply made. On my 2002 Altima the interior trim looks like it was made by Fisher Price. Actually Fisher Price would have made it more durable. The radio buttons stick or don't work. The climate control buttons are falling out of the dash. The leather boot around the gear shift keeps coming out. The hard plastic dash makes all kinds of moans and groans. Cold weather is worse for noise. The glowing orange dash is an eye sore in a "sporty luxury" car. The headlights get moisture in them and fog up on humid days or after car washes. The clutch doesn't grab until its almost 2/3 up. The tach needle seems slow to respond to the gas pedal off the line. Or maybe the gas pedal is slow to make the engine respond? Doesn't feel sporty in everyday driving. Gear shift feels rubbery and notchy at the same time. The heat sheilds on the exhaust have rusted loose and rattle under the car. I have a "check engine" light for emissions saying the catalytic converter is not efficient anymore. This apparently is an issue on all new Nissans. They pollute more and screw up the emissions sensors. The car drives fine but the SES light is always on. Same with my wife's 2001 Pathfinder. SES light is always on for emissions. Ok enough bashing. The reason I bought the car was for the power and fuel economy. 245 hp is lots of get up and go if you mash the gas and drive like a 15 yr old. The engine itself is quiet and has lots of power if you keep the rpm above 3000. My Scan Guage II told me I was getting 26 mpg at 85 mph and 36 mpg at 55 mph. Thats pretty awesome. It runs on regular 90 octane Mohawk gas very happily. Huge trunk and plenty of space in the passenger compartment as well. It looks like a very prestigious car. Handling is ok but doesn't inspire confidence. At night the headlights and fog lights light up the entire road. They don't need to be upgraded at all and will easily turn a dark country road into daylight. Like I said above, I won't be buying anymore Nissans/Infinitis, etc. Back to Toyota for me.

Strength:

Very stylish ride and roomy

Weakness:

Tires, parts, malfunctions to easily, replacement of one defect may lead to another.

Where do I began? I have had my car for 4 months and several things have malfunctioned. Within the first week the driver seat broke, warning light for maintenance keeps coming on but dealer doesn't know why. Now here it is September and my chair still hasn't been replaced and now my horn has malfunctioned because of a defective wire. Also Nissan has sent out a notice saying that the air filter in the car can ignite and cause a fire so that has been recalled. Horn goes off for no reason and the key will not stop it I have to kick the tire for it to stop.

They did everything to get my business but when it comes to the service department fixing my car nothing has been done. I have been to the dealer several times and even called the manager and owner of the dealer but to my dismay nothing has been done. My salesman however was great and when I called him and told him of the problems I took my car in the same day and they fixed one thing only to break another. Now my car will not go to full when I put gas in it. I just had the defective horn fixed now my gas tank won't take in the entire 18 gallons like it did before I had the work done. This is a nice car but it is very tempermental and things on it malfunction easily. The tires are cheap as hell two weeks after I bought the car I had to completely replace a tire because the tires are not covered by the warranty. I don't understand how Nissan is owned by Infinity but the car breaks down like it does. I guess you get what you pay for. BUY WITH CAUTION!!!

Model Reviewed: Nissan Altima Hybrid

Strength:

Enjoyment of driving experience, practical design and features, not "over the top" styling yet sporty design

Weakness:

good cabin materials but not as good as some others, choice of some features are exclusive to only packaged options, Hybrid trunk is small (because of additional battery)

After having owned my Altima for a few months now, I feel satisfied with my decision to purchase this car. While it does not excel in any singular aspect, it does provide a balance of features and abilities that lean toward a more entertaining driving experience. I can only suppose that this was the intent of the designers at Nissan.
When compared to the Toyota Camry, which I was also contemplating on purchasing, I was willing to sacrifice a little bit on a slightly better feeling of quality materials (Camry) in exchange for a more responsiveness and sporty feel (Altima).
I wouldn't go so far as to say that this car would suit everyone. But then again, the same can be said about any car on the market.
I am happy with the Altima because it is an every day car that can put some fun in a mundane commute. While I would prefer the Camry for its choice of cabin materials, the Altima is a better match for people looking for satisfaction in an entertaining driving experience.

Model Reviewed: Altima 2.5SL

Strength:

Value, smooth ride and power.

My wife’s 1999 Camry was due for a replacement. We looked around for Camry LE V6, Altima 2.5SL and Honda CRV which are in the similar price range. We also test drove Camry 4 and RAV4 which were noisy and lack of power. The CRV was rules out as the interior was too plain (the ride was Okay though). The final decision comes down to the Camry LE V6 and Altima 2.5SL (both are new models for 2007). We picked the Altima 2.5SL for the following considerations:
1. Altima was quieter and the engine is just as responsive as the Camry V6.
2. Much better value - It is fully loaded where as the Camry every thing is optional ($2K+). It is recognized, however, Toyota has better overall resale value.
3. My previous ownership experience with Maxima and Pathfinder.

It has 8,000 km on it and its still running as day 1. Gas mileage is so and so. We are very satisfied.

Weakness:

a little noisier than I thought, stereo is not that good (I do not have the bose system)

I fell in love with this car when id rove it, but to save a few dollars I decided to have leather interiro added instead of purchasing w/leather-BIG MISTAKE. Upon recieveing my car after instillation one of the consoles doesn't close. Returned to have that fixed. Then my inside door handle just came off one day-returned to have that fixed. 2 hours later a child opens the door-comes off again-now I have to take tim eoff work and go again-VERY DISAPPOINTING, but not as disappointing as the lack of concern the dealer has. Once your money is taken or your contract is signed they could care less. That is very unfortunate. Otherwise, I love the car, but I probably won't buy another one from them-EVER and no recommendations.

My Nissan/Altima Experience

Knock in engine started at 10,000 km.

Strange water rushing sound in the dash.

Rides like a train – Struts were gone at 20,000 km. Dealer said they are ok. Anyone who has ever been in the car can attest to how hard it hits even over small bumps.

Total Brake failure without warning at less than 35,000 km.

4 Tires replace at 35,000 km.

Doors began squeaking within weeks of ownership. And still were when I got rid of it!

Door seals replaced twice.

Right door buzzer/light switch fell off.

Right front door glass had wind noise. Had it in several times and still not fixed – I gave up on it.

Once you push the latch to engage the child locks they may or may not disengage and you have to open the door from the outside until you bring it in to get it fixed.

The door latches freeze on cold winter mornings and won't shut. You have to wait until the car warms up. Happened 3 times one winter - very damn frustrating!

Two recalls - one for an exhaust hanger and the other for a screen in the gas filler tube.

Steering seized up and had to have the steering knuckle replaced.

Engine died and was replaced at 61,000 kms.

Vibration through entire car. They never had a clue first or last what was causing it.

Front exhaust pipe corroded and needed to be replaced. They told me it was related to the faulty engine. Then when they replaced the engine they are said that it is out of warranty and refused to replace it.

Plastic interior was cheap and scratched easily too.

I got to stop because I am getting angry just typing this crap… Needless to say the Nissan Altima was by far the worst car I have ever owned - bar none. It was nothing but trouble from day one.

My advice to anyone who is considering a Nissan prodoct is to stay away from NISSAN and in my case O’Neill Motors – Both have caused me nothing but grief.

This is my 3rd altima in 2 years. All 3 altimas were 3 of the best cars iv ever had. I'v had ford, dodge and chevy most of my life and will never go back to domestic cars again. They dont even come close to the value, quality, or resale value. i also think it looks a lot better then its competitors(camery, accord, fusion,tl,masda 6). If your looking for a good sedan get any modal altima.

Model Reviewed: Nissan Altima 2.5S Auto.

Strength:

torque, handling, styling

Weakness:

transmission, OK fuel economy

I have owned the 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S since 5/2006. It currently has about 10k miles on it and has had no problems. The Altima is marketed as a family sedan, but is more close to a sport sedan, which I knew before buying. You would be wise to look into this car if you place premiums on tight handling and entertaining acceleration performance. This car really responds off the line or on the highway if needed. The ride quality is fine, but not as smooth and comfortable as others such as Camry. The transmission performance falls short of what I was expecting. Shifting from 1st to second is rough with the automatic, but other than that, it is fairly responsive. Expect to stand out on the road in this car. The styling is sporty and elegant at the same time, with aggressive and sleek lines. The interior is an improvement from the 02-04 models, but it is still far from a luxury car. As far as noise, the stock tires are somewhat noisy (continental touring contact) and the engine is very noisy over 3500 RPM. The engine does sport a pleasant "growl" under 3500 though. I have not noticed much wind noise. If you are in the market for a sporty, mid-sized, pre-owned vehicle, definitely look into this car. It is fun to drive, but does have its drawbacks for a car that was under $20K new.
