tons of power to boot thanks to the Mivec. , good handling, lots of luxury for the price and looks great
Weakness:
fuel economy isn't the best, but is i guess shouldn't drag everyone at the lights sometimes brakes make a sqeaky noise. Beautiful looking car. Love to drive it, has every extra, sunroof etc.. Shame about the car dealer i brought it off, would never go there again. - unfortunately after sales service is crap! didn't do the things they said they would do. Similar Products Used: Volvo. Head room in non sunroof, classy interior, price used is great, room, looks, rust free, seem to hold up well, air-conditioning
Weakness:
Mileage 21 mpg, water drips into window controls if window is open when it's raining, brakes (front), power seat on drivers side seems tough to adjust (I'm very tall),have to be in a set back position for comfort Was looking for a dressier wagon, for selling realestate. Did the 60k service at the dealer $1100 with some extras. Very subtle car that looks impressive inside. Great car on the highway, Has decent road mannners but doesn't seem to have alot of suspension travel. Brakes needed to be turned first thing, seems to be a reoccuring problem with this car. Mechanic confirmed this, mechanic also said it would cost alot less to operate than a passat, however, it doesn't handle as well. Mine is Australian made so I'm curious to see how the car holds up, 0thers I've spoken with have had good luck. Similar Products Used: Ford Taurus wagon, Ford Escort wagon, dodge neon, |

Strength:
One class higher than Maxima, Accord, Camry, and ES300. In the same class with Acura 3.2TL for fraction of the cost... due to depreciation that is, not brand new. Great handling, light and quick, great interior finish, wood trim and leather great, electronic climate control, looks like a BMW but is way more reliable and cheaper to own.
Weakness:
Pretty much none so far, I've owned two and have put over 100K miles on my first one, and about 20K on my second one. Brake pads make noise, that's about it... And the newer one doesn't have stereo controls on steering, and not as good stereo as the old one, but those are minor details HERE IT GOES - BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK!!! Period. I had an 1993 for a couple years, at the same time I owned a 3000GT as well, and drove the Diamante much more than the 3000GT... Now I just got a good deal on 97 Diamante, the new body style, with about 50K miles, and it's been the best purchase I've ever made on a car. They have made it tons better than the older style, bigger engine 3.5 vs 3.0, much lighter then the old one, believe it or not, much better handling and suspension, basically everything that needed improvement has been improved!!! Highly recommend testing it out, even if you use to have an older model and didn't like it much. I loved my 93, drove like on rails at speeds in excess of 120mph, the only other car I know besides my BMW 750IL that is that stable and smooth at over 120mph, however, it used to have a lot of body roll on twisties, as well as not enough pick up power from stop... Well, the new redesigned 97 and up Diamante has been improved in every one of these ways, much quicker, much lighter, more leg room in the back, bigger trunk space, stiffer suspension that still feels very smooth, better A/C with also better interface controls on that, and better looks. The only complaint I have so far is that the stereo is worse than the 93 model, weaker, and doesn't have the steering controls. Also the brake pads make noise all the time, kind of annoying. But overall, I've tested every car out there, and owned about half as well, try to find a 97 with 50K miles, with every imaginable option for under $8K and then we'll talk. Avalon 97 sucks in comparison, much weaker and slower, bad handling, bad exterior and interior, cheapish plastics... same as 97 Maxima, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and every other car I can think of, even Cadilac Seville and Olds Aurora. The only car that you can compare to this one is the Acura 3.2TL, and if you can find one for under $8K with 50K miles, buy it or give me a call, I'll buy it. Lexus ES300 is worst, but if you can find LS 400 for that much, buy it as well.. :) Now BMW and Benz are 3 times the money for the same thing, I have owned a number of those as well, and they are much more UNRELIABLE, believe it or not! Strength:
The Magna felt strong & secure but not too big. Seemingly bigger that a Camry, less bulky than an Avalon. We liked the near silence at high speeds and the taught sporty handling & the v.good ergonomics- intuetive radio, trip computer & speed alert. Looks great in silver/sand. Prices good. And an All-Wheel-Drive version's out in a month or two. For a modest 'unhotted' 'base' model, it was a car that may have sniffed steriods.
Weakness:
I understand Magnas "residuals" (leasing) aren't great. Rides firmer that Avalons, Holdens Commodores & Ford Falcons round town. No rear aircon outlets. Rear Wheel drive lovers may not like Magna's FWD. We recently rented a base model mitsubishi magna (diamonte in Japan, New Zealand & the USA & made in Adelaide South Australia) It had a 3.5 litre V6 4speed auto, abs brakes together with everything else you'd expect. I'd never taken Magna's seriously before, but it got a work out because we had landed in Australia's Northern Territory where there are thousands of miles of flat hot desert & where there are NO speed limits. I had to drive to the next town over 500 kilometres away. I consciously kept the car down to a quiet cruise at 170kph. At 190kph the tacho was on 3700rpm way under the red line. This was an excellent car at speed, almost as fast as some aircraft I've flown! I can only say that the complaining Kiwi (New Zealander) must have got a small engined downrated version not sold here. Strength:
Styling, powertrain, a great stereo system by Infinity, comfortable front seats and good trunk room.
Weakness:
Interior could be larger particularly for rear passenger head room. Somewhat disappointed in quality control (built in Australia). Prior Mitsubishi Gallant was better but not near as comfortable or powerful. Just over 10k at this point. Some minor problems. Change pocket lid replaced. Coolant hose replaced. Minor paint flaw on bumper. Overall very comfortable and an easy and flawless Interstate performer. Good power for ingress and passing. Similar styling to competition but just different enough to set it apart. So far satifactory near lux sedan. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord, Mitsubishi Gallant |

annoying blind spot in the rear window... I love the car so far. It looks really great and the luxuries are fabulous. I wanted a fast, safe, nice looking sedan, and this, in my opinon is the best in the "near luxury" class. |

Handling, acceleration, presence (with my new paint job and 17" rims)
Weakness:
Exhaust system is not the best. i rcommend having the front y-pipe and the flex pipe replaced after 90,000 before it becomes a problem. Also watch the front bumper, i whacked it on a curb and caused it to sag, fortuanetly, it has a hole to place a chain and i improved the body so the bumper no longer sagged the hole is located behind the bumper, it is part of the body frame) Great handling, roomy and decent sound system. Although I havent experienced the same brake problems as the others, I've experienced the exhaust smoke. I put some smoke reducer (STP makes it in a clear plastic bottle that looks like oil) with my last oil change and went a little easy on the A/C, even in this Virginia summer heat and the problem did improve greatly. Power from the SOHC V6, style, overall value for your money, head turner, auto off lights, security system, sound system
Weakness:
BRAKES, BRAKES, BRAKES !! I have had this car for about 30K miles and I have put on 3 sets of pads and 1 set of rotors. I also noticed that I was burning huge amounts of oil. I have seen other Diamantes have the same prob. All it is, is just VALVE STEM SEALS. I had those replaced and now the car burns a lot less oil. I took the car to my local Mitsu dealer they wanted to charge $1350 dollars. So I found out that the 92-98 Hyundai Sonata uses the Mitsu SOHC 3.0V6. They charged me $700 for the same service as Mitsu. The Diamante overall is a good solid heavy car, but they can have costly repairs. I purchased this car almost a year ago, It had 118K miles on it. The car was not taken care by the previous owner. The car is a good car overall. The SOHC V6 performs well, despite the vehicles weight, I got the car to go 131 mph easily. This is a good entry level luxury car. The style gets lots of looks. I removed my fake wood panels and painted them all silver to give it a more sporty look, I also added new 2003 Eclipse GTS 17" wheels and V-rated tires that I got for $500. Now the car has got 147K miles on it and it still runs like new. Similar Products Used: 95 Maxima SE 94 Infinit J30 96 Camry XLE V6 None of these dont even compare |
