Strength:

Smooth ride. Good highway cruiser. Good passing power with 3.0L. Clings to road on curves. At 12 years old, now a reliable second car.
200,000 K with no engine or transmission problems.
Roomy -- can seat six with seatbelts. Big trunk.

Weakness:

Some electrical problems.
Front-end still tight, but struts rattle.
Bodywork (about $1,000 worth) required to rear panels and trunk at 8 years old, has held up well. Car looks great for 12 years old. "The Silver Bullet."
One hubcap keeps falling off.
Stereo speakers cut out.
All the usual alternator, battery, water pump replacements -- pretty standard repairs if you keep your car 12 years.
I seem to have avoided some of the transmission problems experienced by others -- totally smooth.
Also -- 3.0L seems to have avoided some of the headgasket problems of 3.8L.
Ford sent a recall note on engine mounts and a Ford dealer repaired the problem at no cost -- and washed my car in and out for no cost.

Car was very reliable for first 8/9 years and is now a good 2nd car and still going strong.
No problems with all major components: engine, tranny, front end etc.
Seems to be a more economical used car buy than competition.

Strength:

The 3rd seat
Comfortability
Style
Tilt steering
Power Driver seat

Weakness:

The turning of the Steering Wheel. Ford must improve on the handling of the wheel. Sometimes it's just too hard to maneuver. I sometimes feel like i'm driving a limo but that's ok it just took a little getting use to.

The car is excellent. I just had a flipdown television, dvd, vcr, chrome wheels, wood grain dash , stereo system and tinted windows all installed. It looks great. Great investment. The kids love to ride in the third seat and watch television.

Ford Contour LX. Even though the GS doesn't pack the power of the Contour, it's still a great car as is the Contour. The '95 Contour was my first car but the kids and I ran through it. Soon I will fix it up and will be reselling that shortly.

Weakness:

transmission went out with only 67000miles, ford customer service is awful. no wonder they only provide a 3 yr/36000 mile warranty...there products will not last

stay away from ford products... i will never buy another ford vehicle. i will most likely buy only german or japanese made vehicles since they last longer and the resale value is there.

Strength:

Comfortable Reliable ride, Nice cargo room, still going strong with 66500 miles, powerful 3.0 L engine(even though 140 hp), roomy interior, never stalls, wonderful headlights(one of the best in years 1986 - 1995), really nice if you change sound system

Weakness:

Bad sound system

In compirason to the Camry, and Accord, the Sable/Taurus twins have a better exterior. They are also more powerful, I have driven the Camry and Accord. The Lumina on the other hand has stronger handling, but not by much, but the sable has better headlights at night, and visiblity on the interstate. If you buy a Sable of this year, I guarantee you probably will be satisfied.

Weakness:

Every thing. there are so many to list. First of all I have had to put more money into this car then I can tell you about. The First thing to die on my was the Transmission. Then the paint on the car started to peel and it got so bad the car looked nothing like when i origanaly bought it, so i needed a paint job. Another proplem is that the dash board is cracking. Another proplem the Altonater went on it. I have had so many proplem that I have forgotten most of them. My advice is stay away from this car and if you own this car already sell it for parts.

DO NOT BUY A 1990 SABLE!!!

Strength:

great engine (3.0L 24valve V6, 200hp). has good pickup and passing speed. great stereo system. big trunk and very roomy. very sleek design.

Weakness:

transmission seems to lag. not designed for somebody that is six foot one.

so far my experience with my sable is very good. But I've only had it for about four months, not really anytime for something to go wrong. I really don't have anything bad to say about this vehicle, especially when compared to the only other car I've ever owned.

Similar Products Used:

when compared to my old car and 91 taurus the sable definitely has a better engine and better styling.

Strength:

Features. This is an LS, and it's loaded with everything it can be except for the all leather seats. Drives great, has that Duratec engine and it's a real dream. Stereo sounds fine to me, and I like it loud. I also like the split back seat and arm rest for rear passengers.

Weakness:

Auto trans needs both hands for encouragement after it's been sitting long enough to get really cold. Once it's warm it's fine. Trunk opening leaves a little to be desired. I can't get a 17" monitor in there, which is a problem since I'm a computer tech. Passenger side window has a bit of a rattle.

Really, overall, a very solid and reliable car. Nothing majorly wrong at all.
