Strength:

can't think of any

Weakness:

This car has let me down more times than enough. I have owned it new since 97 and the car worked decent for about 6months.Since then I have been fighting with the dealer over everything from cup holders to electrical to handling and reliability. If I want to go any place away from the city in which I live I have to rent a vehicle as my lemon is so unreliable. My wife and I have recently had a baby and if you put the stroller in the trunk you can hardly get any groceries in around it.I have had elec. work done on the car since 97[ongoing],one of two cupholders broke and ford replaced them with one cupholder instead of two. the coil springs went, tne foglamps burnout so much that I haven'tbothered replacing them in 2 years,at 20 dollars apiece,at canadian tire. The catalytic converter plugged and ford wanted $1200.00to replace;another company replaced for $575.00.Everytime it rains the trunk fills up with water from a leak that ford hasn't been able to find, the steering wheel faded and turned black, which looks like crap,I can't seem to keep tires on this car.I am on my fifth set of tires for this car even though we get it alligned about twice a year, and there hs always been something wrong. My father in law works for Michelin Tires and he has gotten our tires for us at a discount and the tires still cost us$3-400.00,so were not going cheap.I only have 150k on the car, with a trip across Canada and travel up to 3 hours a day to work and back. the gas mileage sucks as it costs me $30.00to go 200k. The dealer says there is nothing wrong that it's a 4 cyl. Overall this car is a LEMON!!!

I am extremely disapointed in my purchase, the service I have received from most ford dealers and the resale value of this car, which is why I still have it.

I used to own a ford ranger in which I put over 600,000k on before I sold it. The 90 ranger is still going with minimal problems. I now commute in a 93 Saturn, 4cyl, and this car is very reliable and burns half the gas. Other vehicles I have compared this to are;96 hyundai elantra and found this car to be superior,90 hyundai sonata which is more reliable, better on gas and more comfortable to drive. All these vehicles I have compared my mistake to are 4cyl, auto, same as mine.

Strength:

The stereo still works!!!!

Weakness:

The motor is leaking oil, the cams are gone, the crank shaft leaks, the wiring is gone in the rear end, the windows have problems, a lot of electrical problems. The coils are gone--what else is there???

I purchased the car in April. It died 4 times in two months with no logical explanation by the dealer. The window on the drivers side wouldn't go down. The lights keep burning out. I've paid for an alignment but it didn't do any good because the coils are gone. The car has too many problems to list. I rate it the worst car that I have ever owned. I feel like I got totally screwed out of my money especially since I have 4 more years to pay!! The dealer refuses to take it back. They won't even trade!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good on gas

Weakness:

Too many problems in too short of time.

I have had the car for about 6 months, and had to put a new transmission in it. $1600.00....not covered under any warranty for this length of time. Had only about 60,000 miles.

Had a ford taurus before, which had alot of miles, did not have near the problems with it, anyways, not the expensive ordeal I had with the mystique!

Weakness:

Cup holder
Cheap motor (cost me 4500)
Tint
Cant find any light covers

The v6 was a powerful engine and it handled great for the first year but!!then the piston rod shot through the oil pan; meanwhile I had proof of regular oil changes and so forth. My warranty just ran out and the car was under 80 k. My emergancy break handle chewed up the "leather" and cost me about $400 because the whole console needed replacement! Factory tint is peeling off since the 3rd week.I like the overall look of the car and it still feels sporty and the braking system is excellent, stopping you on a dime.If you are looking to buy those extra's to make it look sporty ,good luck.

Strength:

Wonderful engine, solid chasis, dealers that really try but have Junk to work with...too bad.

Weakness:

Sloppy pain...sealer all over the car, cheap trim that doesn't fit together...a pain in the butt car...not very well engineered compared to the competition for the money.

In no particular order...accelerator cable (towed), brake rotors, wheel bearings, transmission (towed), headlight switch, shifter, hood latch, brake line rubbing on rear wheel strut tower (poor engineering)...too many other minor recalls to recall...plus a wonderful smooth engine equals typical American JUNK...they took 100% of my money and sold me a 70% car...Honda here I come !

Toyota Camry, Honda Civic...no comparison...no problems with either car as they seem to be constructed with care...they want my business...long-term.

Strength:

It handles like a dream with the suspension that it has, plus the six cylinder is real strong and frugal at the same time. It can also carry a load in the trunk. 13.9 cu.ft.

Weakness:

I think the weaknesses of this auto is the people that buy it. The big
problem with the car is the people driving them and their inattentiveness
to its needs. Most people like to live good but drive their autos to death
and then call them a piece of junk. Most autos now days would last a long
time with just a little care. You got to love your car like they were precious. As long as they run you love them. The first time they dont start
their a piece of junk and it was usually the owners fault.

well since i owned the car it has never been back except for an oil change
and a new oil plug.the mechanic put it in with a bar on the wrench so he
could take one more turn. you could not loosen it. It is one of the finest
autos that i have owned. It has the six with everything. We had a 95 contour
4 cylinder before this with 60000 miles on it at trade time. we put 9000
miles on that car in three weeks with a trip out west from the grand canyon
to the bad lands and then new york and penna. and back to fla. average 31mpg as high as 35. altitude did not bother it. 4years no problems. the 1999 mercury weve made 3trips to ny and penna. and totals of over 10000 miles average 30 miles per gal. of course i use ames oil 0w 30 synthetics in it and a K&N air filter and dual exhaust. what a beautiful auto. I mean she will tick along at 90 miles an hour like your taking your dog for a walk. we love it. we keep autos a long time so it pays to put the best in them. had a bronco for 10years, and t bird for 7. so this auto is going to
be around a while.

Strength:

Duratec power, A/C and A/C clutch kicking out for extra power

Weakness:

dead at 112 mph, i have put 2 sets of tires on front and have had car re-aligned 3 times, thats from WV roads. A little slow off start with A/C on.

'99 LS V6, Deep Navy blue, midnight blue leather, power seat, wood grain, moon roof, full stereo with kenwood headunit and 10 disc changer, two 12's. Kurtz Kustoms filter with straight aluminum intake which turns heads and makes the care sound mean. Bought the car with 46 miles on it and haven't had any major problems besides the little war. and recall issues. The front rotors were groved by 25k miles and the dealer replaced them for me. Only other thing that happened is that i replaced the fog light bulbs 3 times before ford replaced both lights for me because of seals.

Strength:

Looks great, A/C is nice, I have a spoiler, trunk is good, and gas mileage is decent.

Weakness:

Let's see, fan belt, a/c belt, cup holders, speakers, blinkers... oh the gas tank only opens from inside the trunk now... and the trunk opener doesn't work except manual too. I replaced the speakers and stereo myself, but the rest was luckily all still under warranty. I am very afraid of the day the warranty runs out.

Bought it used at about 60k miles, and once I got it cleaned out I loved it. For a while. Looks great but seems prone to falling apart. It seems that I rent it during the weekend only to return it to the dealer for repairs for the week. Maybe because it's used, but come on...

Strength:

Overdrive gear, power everything, adequate four cylinder, side window defrosters

Weakness:

Needs Keyless, 2.0L isn't big enough, rear seat room, stereo system, brakes always squeak, too many little problems, weak first gear take off. must use Premium gas only or it'll knock and shake more

This car has had quite a few problems and recalls. Right now the only A/C speeds I can get are low and medium-high (not good for hot days). It rattles a lot with the inline 4 cylinders and at times can have insufficient power. Doesn't have good take off power or passing power but is great fun to "floor it". Good value for you money b/c of leather seats, power everything but bad sound system. Power mirrors sometimes get stuck. Always starts after two or three cranks. No room in back. Comfortable seats. Everything pulls the rpm of the engine down including using the power windows, turning on rear defroster, turning on headlights, and turning on A/C or heat.

Looks

Weakness:

poorly engineered, poorly designed, lack of commitment from the Ford company to stand behide it's products. These are typical comments made by nearly every 1995 Mystique owner. Water in the trunk from an unknown leak, cheap and loose trim poorly installed carpet, interior light covers falling off, an engine light that comes on and stays on for no apparent reason, engine temperature gauage that reads below normal operating temperature, glove box latch spring just fell out,Spring clips no better than bobby pins that hold down the air breather cover.I have experienced all of these problem just within the first 2 months of owner ship it had one other owner the sad thing is that is has not even broke 45,000 miles yet

Looks good but looks are Deceiving. I am just waiting for the entire car to fall apart.
