Strength:
Modern looking body (not changed much even from the 2004s) went down the road at 80MPH with one finger driving. Comfortable, decent mileage for a big car, cavernous trunk. With GOOD tires it even handled well on snow.
Weakness:
Dealers SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nonwarrantied design flaw in the valve seals. Interior panels "snap" into place and tabs break off easily during any repair. Bought this car in 1998 when it only had 30K and the engine supposedly only had about 1K (dealer replaced due to bad block). Once again the Ford dealership network is doing its best to beat the life out of a fairly good product. Engine was replaced in 1995 while under warranty due to the original have a sand spot in the block - allowed the coolant to pour into the oil. Took the original owner 3 years to convince Ford to address the problem. After the repair the PO parked the car due to his wife's death. I bought the car after he traded it. Good power considering the low HP rating of the 4.6 and the heavy body its dragging around. Averaged 20-24 MPG on every tank of fuel run through it except when a O2 sensor had gone bad. Lots of room, good ride, well optioned. Dealer soured me on the car. Brought it in for transmission flush - they broke the windsheild. Brought it back to replace the windsheild and they installed the new one incorrectly - whistled and leaked water. Installed another windsheild and they broke the mirror off the side of the car (one man installation attempt). Another trip for new mirror - installed incorrectly whistled (LOUD) when going down the road. Had work done on the cruise and power window - every interior panel they touched they broke and did not repair. Final straw came when it started blowing blue smoke (odometer showed 119K - engine should have only had 90K). Early 4.6L V8s have a problem with the valve stem seals shrinking with age & use and allowing oil into the combustion chamber. Results in massive amounts of blue smoke after stopping at stop lights even though it is only burning a small amount of oil. Brought it to a shop, they pulled the engine serial number - turned out the dealer had installed a USED engine when it was replaced under warranty back in 1995. Instead of a new engine it was a used 1991 engine from a Town Car (guessed fron build date). This was checked because the mechanic was surprised an engine with only 90,000 miles was have the valve stem seal problem. Good chance the engine had 50K-60K when replaced and now had 150K - 160K miles on it. Sold it instead of paying the near $1000 repair bill to fix it. Outstanding trunk space Very good mileage for this kind of car Rides very comfortably, even on gravel Default tires (Symmetry) are decent for just about all road conditions
Weakness:
Windows are a bit slow to go up (minor annoyance) I was initially driving a rather beat up 93 Eagle Summitt. I needed something much better. I saw this car for sale at $10,000. Only had 43,000 miles on it but it had some hail damage according to the dealer. I did spot 1 single tiny dent and that's it. The car has driven great for me. It's like driving a couch. Very comfortable, very reliable. I've not had a single mechanical issue with this car. I need to make fairly frequent trips out of state, and I can't think of another vehicle I'd rather be planted in for long road trips. |

comfortable, good economy, never needs fixing, great standard stereo, good looking, nice gauges, great paint never rusts, avg 23 mpg, great on gravel roads, handles like a car should. This is the best car made in America. Sure the Camry is a good runner but it aint no Marquis.
Weakness:
slow windows, could be quieter Nice car. Love the looks. The motor is fabulous and runs like a top. This car cruises the highway with tremendous passing ability and I have the smaller V8. Great tranny. This is the best of the 4 Marquis Ive had and all have been great. Im at 160,000 now and this boat is cruising. Without a doubt the Marquis is the best way to get the big car and keep your shirt on. Similar Products Used: 1984 Grand Marquis 1991 Grand Marquis 1994 Grand Marquis |

"Mafia" trunk; Comfortable ride; Decent mileage for a V8; Secure feeling on highway due size.
Weakness:
Original Michelin Symmetry tires are OK but will replace them with a more performance-oriented brand. Used to be a GM man exclusively. Tried Chrysler products and was unhappy. Switched to Ford and found happiness. Had 86 Grand Marguis that my stepdad's family is still using with 150k miles on it. My 2001 was purchased new in Nov 2001. Got great deal and 0 % financing. Never back to the dealer for any problem since purchase ( 24 mos ago). Now, that's what I call I good car. Roomy, quiet, decent pickup. Average 18 mpg in city and have even gotten 26 mpg on long highway vacation trips. It really is "The poor man's Lincoln." Friends in Florida with a 98 Cadillac Deville were so impressed with my Marquis that they went to to the dealer in Sarasota to purchase one after I left. Report they are very pleased with it as well. Ride Quality Ride Quality and Ride Quality Have owned three of these cars, a 1991, a 1997 and this 2003. The first two provided excelent ride quality. This one remids me of an old Ford staight axle Pick Up I used to own. The ride is choppy and really tosses you around when you hit a bump. Last one for me. |

Solid feel Acceleration / Braking BULLET PROOF RELIABILITY!! Gas mileage that will astound you.
Weakness:
It makes the owners head swell up with pride causing the driver to drive around with an uncontrollable silly simpleton-like grin on his/her face. This is my White baby! I have the Montegua edition. Beautiful clean powerful car. Very solid body giving you a sense of being safe when driving. I've always had a soft spot for the Grand Marquis as I've owned several in the past. I wish it had a traction control switch as found on the newer ones, as it would be handy to be able to enable/disable. Very quick and smooth acceleration that has suprised many a victim at stop lights. This car accelerates and keeps on accelerating until you chicken out and ease off.
