Strength:
Fun to drive and look at.
Weakness:
Poorly made with no backing from Ford. They just suck up any money they can get from you in repairs. Warranty is worthless.Trade in value? NONE. The worst new car I have ever had. The fuel pump has had to be replaced twice, the antifreeze light is on constantly, the paint is crappy and a few other things have gone wrong. |

Ford Mercury Cougar V6
Strength:
Beautiful styling, eye-catching laser tinted red paint has held up considerably well over the past year, peppy engine, good gas mileage, beautiful 16" rims, nice sound system, among other things.
Weakness:
Some minor vibration/rattle, rather expensive tires, odd cup holder, interior is a little cheap (but as long as you don't sling a power drill around on the inside, you'll be fine) I bought my Laser-Tinted Red Cougar back in fall 2002. In close to a year, I have had NO major problems. The car is pushing 55k, and still running strong (knock on wood!) The car is so pretty, turns heads and get compliments a lot. This isn't the only reason I like the car. It's got a peppy V6 engine and good gas mileage. Granted I service the car regularly, oil changes on time and tires balanced/rotated at normal intervals. My Cougar also has the gorgeous 16" Alloy Wheels that look awesome (especially right after cleaning, they shine and really add to the appeal of the car.) I have a small problem with interior rattle (the passenger side window on bumpy roads, and the dashboard makes a humming/buzzing sound?) But this is not a major problem. Tires are rather expensive, but if you keep them clean, balanced and rotated, and just take care of them in general, they'll last you. If someone out there is looking for a Mercury Cougar, please only consider purchasing if you take care of your vehicles. Other friends who drive cougars as well, have had multiple problems, mainly due to driving them hard and not taking appropriate care! Parents, don't buy one for your teen if they have not yet learned to treat a car responsibly, because you will have a money pit on your hands! :/ Similar Products Used: None. This is my first 6-cylinder car. I like, I like ALOT! |

Great turning ability actually pretty fast
Weakness:
Except for the problems. horrible monster of a car impossible to paralell park and to back up with. very long. We have had this car for 2 years. Our first problem: Family reunion car was stalling and having problems starteing and going- we had to remove the thermistat. Now a days it cuts out and it takes it forever to get speed. Second problem: The lights in the dashbourd went out and we can't seem to figure out why after changing the bulbs that it won't come on. 3rd problem: Ac is out. Nice car though, especially on the freeway really fun to drive- when you first start drivings. Itis an older model but it has Power everything(seats windows locks)tilting wheel, no cassette though, Also cruise control. I'd like it if it were more reliable. Similar Products Used: ford trucks - father kept buying the little red ones and the red ones always broke down -had a good white one, but he traded in for a red one. |

The car Worst car I've ever had. I hate it, I hate it more than life itself. Since the day I've got it its been a money pit. The sunroof snaped, cost a grand, the windshield wiper's relay switch blew, cost 300, the foglamps went out, still haven't gotten that fixed, a/c is out, the o/2 sensor needed to get replaced, 2 altenators have been replaced, the even is reving really high at idle when its hot. radio goes on and off. I'll never buy an american car as long as I live. |

Not enough power Once warranty runs out problems happen Poor in trade in value Mercury doesnt stand behind product Well I bought my car a little over 3 years ago and I haven't had a problem yet, I drive insane miles so my warranty ran out almost a year ago, but just recently my car is acting up, I've had the oxygen sensors replaced, fuel pump sensor replaced and now finally the dealership is telling me my fuel pump is bad, which is something they should of looked at in the first place. Although I was fortunate and havent had many problems my mom purchased a 2000 mountaineer and has had problems after problems, I hate to say it but I see why people buy imports! |

Good pickup, sporty, fun to drive, and looks great.
Weakness:
Moonroof leaked, computer problems, driver window stuck, got fixed, did it again. Radio comes and goes. I chose the Cougar at the time over the Mustang which I had originaly wanted. Should have got the Mustang. Dont get me wrong, this is a nice car as far as looks are concerned, but to many little problems, though no major. The first day I drove this thing home the wrench light came on and wouldn't go off, everytime we brought it in under warranty they found some reason it wasn't covered. Similar Products Used: none |

Front Suspension I've loved the cougar ever sense it first came out with the new body in 99, I paid cash and got a used 99 over a year ago. It's a v6 5sp, as soon as I got the car, getting on the highway a hail storm hit, no biggie. I got the car in April and in Oct the front suspension went out, a Tie Rod broke causing my car to lose control and hit 2 trees and a sign, luckily no body damage beside a crack windshield and a hole in the bumper, but EVERYTHING under the driver side wheel well came off, Axle, Rotor cracked in half etc. My stupidity was I only had Liability Insurance on it :( I am still waiting to get it fixed as I have to pay out of my own pocket! Air bags never did come out and fuel pump did shut off, had no problems up until then, I find it a great car still with a weak front suspension! |

The sunroof track and motor, gadgets constantly go out. Man, why didn't some one warn me! My car was great until the warranty ran out. I should have known the sunroof would be a problem when the track broke 7500 miles in. Now the thing has broke again, same problem and the dealership is saying it is my problem and it will cost me over $1000 to fix. IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM!!! I am not understanding why I have to pay to have something that was supposed to be FIXED a year ago. |
