Strength:
Good looking car.
Weakness:
BAD Brake system, coolant light stays on for no reason (dealers can't find the problem), tires wear quickly, cheesy cupholder, steering wheel shakes when you reach interstate speed, trunk latch doesn't work properly, transmission reacts strangely when I take off quickly, like it doesn't hit all the gears (it jerks). I fell in love with the body style of this car and purchased one new in 1999. I have the sport package V-6 automatic. I argue with men about my car not having ABS breaks. Obviously they are not standard since my car doesn't have them. However, I have men telling me all the time that 99 Cougars do have the ABS brake system. But that's another story altogether. I have been through numerous brake pads (just had to have another pair installed today). And I also had to have a rotor. My complaint is that the brakes wear too quickly and there is no warning system until you hear the metal scrubbing metal sound that makes you cringe. And yes, I am aware that the brakes on most cars will squeal when they are ready to be changed, but with the brake noise that I am told by the dealer is common with Cougars, I never know if they truly are ready to be changed or if it is just the noise associated with these type of brakes. The brake dust on my front wheels is ridiculous. My next complaint, the low coolant light stays on constantly. I have had my car to the dealer numerous times since the light came on. It first came on about six months after I bought it and they have put new sensors on, and even kept it for three days once while taking apart the whole dashboard. But it still stays on. So what do you do? Also, I have not had good luck with tire wear either. Not sure what that's about, but definitely not normal. Also, the steering wheel has always shook when I reach interstate speeds, no explanation for that either according to the dealer. I think it's possessed. Wish I had taken my dad's advice and gotten a Honda!!! |
