Strength:
Stylish, powerful 2.0L 4 cylinder..Nicely appointed with no skimping on quality
Weakness:
There is a very noticeable and annoying rumble coming from the engine when the car is stated and driven until it warms up. On colder mornings, this rumbling noise contimues for at least 2 miles. Mazda is aware of this problem but offers no fix. The noise is very disturbing and it makes the car sound like a diesal truck. I would like to have this problem reolved..Also, the A/C does not sem to perform as well as it should..Delaer installed new ''expansion valve''..Problem still exists, though....It would be nice if for once, a problem could be fixed the first time. Overall this car is better made than most I have driven in this price range. Fit and finish rivals that of more expensive cars. Similar Products Used: None |

/ Mazda Protege ES
Strength:
Beautiful styling inside and out. Bargain price for a fully loaded ES. Amazing handling and peppy engine. Pretty much the fastest car in it''s class. It gets excellent reliability from consumer reports and other companies
Weakness:
Havn''t found any yet Originally I had my heart set on either the new Nissan Spec V or the subaru WRX, both amazing cars. However financially niether of them were a great buy as the wrx costs 24K and the Nissan dealers were being very tight with incentives and even charging over sticker price. The new 2002 protege ES combined a quick and smooth 2.0 liter inline 4 with superior styling and refinement. Every detail was well thought out from the 3 spoke steering wheel to the red backlit guages. Similar Products Used: Toyota Carolla 93 and 2000, Ford Focus ZX3, Honda Accord 1996 |

Strength:
Mazda clutches dominate! This car is by no means ''civil''. Corner''s like a cat on carpet - quick and confident. Strong brakes (4 discs) means late braking - means more time going fast. A fresh face in this class of cars. Hatch-back = good for work samples, snowboarding, kite-boarding, etc.
Weakness:
Hard to find aftermarket parts and when I do find them they are 30-50% more expensive compared to a Civic. Seats could have higher bolsters. High RPM driving (5000-6500) with OEM system feels too "stuffy" not as free as it is with a Honda. But I have AEM and new Cat-Back exhaust and I no longer have problems. This little car just screams at me to "rice" it up! I have lowered it 2'' and the already tight handling has improved even further. With the addition of a few bolt on performance parts it becomes an understatment to simply say ZoOm ZoOm. Lastly I want to add that my girlfriend does not call my car "cute" but "mean and hungry" contrary to a lot of other cars competing in this class. Mazda Protege5
Strength:
VALUE Great engineering, fit & finish. Attractive styling all around. Car is tight, solid and rattle-free. Excellent road manners- Great suspension & tires: Handles those nasty curves and quick lane changes with authority & aplomb. Comfortable, supportive seating. Plenty of interior head/leg/storage room considering the size of the car.
Weakness:
Great car with some nit-picky weaknesses. Black interior: Shows every little bit of lint and debris. No fog light on/off indicator on dash. Tires and/or suspension seem to transmit every nook & cranny in road surface. Speedometer guage delineation/recognition somewhat vague. Sound system sound quality suspect. I would recommend this vehicle for anyone who wants a car that possesses a are combination of utility, beauty & value. According to carreview.com, the Protege5 has the 2nd best rating of ALL cars!!!-Pretty impressive for a car that is >$20,000, wouldn''t you say? All of the reviews that I have seen, raved about the Protege5 (edmunds.com, cars.com, caranddriver.com) I was going to buy a 5 speed, however, when I found that the automatic achieved virtually the same mpg, I decided to go with the automatic. Buy now- 0% financing for 36 months. Similar Products Used: Overall, don''t bother wasting your time looking elsewhere. Buy Protege5! |

Protege ES Automatic
Strength:
2.0 litre engine ABS brakes Lots of room
Weakness:
wind noise at 130 to 140 km/h funny little centre arm rest high RPM above 100 km/h Just over a month with my new wheels. Had a ''93 Civic Si Hatchback before but I now need 4 doors ''cause of the baby. So far so good. The 2.0 Litre engine has a lot of pep even with automatic. Sometimes the shifts are a little rough but other than that it is a very nice car. Quality of parts seem excellent. No sqeaks or rattles. Similar Products Used: Civic |

Protege MP3
Strength:
Great Looks, handles good, very good audio system. Just enough room for my family (me, wife, 2 childern).
Weakness:
Could use more power under the hood. Just purchased the MP3 limited edition model of the Protege. I have to say that this car is VERY FUN!! Of course with the engine size that comes with this car, you can''t expect too much acceleration, but none the less, it is fun and handles great. The MP3 comes with a very good audio system, the Kenwood Z919 mp3 cd player, an 8" powered subwoofer (Sounds good and hits hard), and exceleron speakers all around. Similar Products Used: I''ve owned a ''94 Toyota Tercel, and an ''92 Honda Accord. Both were no comparison to this car. Although the Honda did last awhile, and ran smooth, the Mazada outperforms and outshines the others. |

Safety features such as the dual airbags. Also the engine power is pretty good for a car like this. Also gas per mileage. Its veyr smooth on bumps.

THE MAZDA SERVICE SUCKS. I love my mazda protege ''01 but the service is horrible. I wanted to get my protege for the 0 percent APR but as you know....salesmen are very sneaky and I was not able to but I love the mazda so much I still got it. I got myself the 2.0,2001 Mazda Protege Es. Fully loaded, White, with sunroof for $17,045. I also got the 6 year warranty!!!I love my mazda...so far Ive put 6xxmiles on it and Ive had it for about three weeks. Its a great car. Better than any toyota or honda. Similar Products Used: None |

Great looks, handling, build quality, features, fun-to-drive.
Weakness:
Ashtray is a bit small. I reluctantly traded in my heavily-autocrossed ''99 Protege ES for this car and (now) have no regrets. The steering and handling is outstanding. I have not had the car very long, but I would suspect it will be every bit as reliable as my ''99 and my 1990 4WD sedan, which is to say, very. Similar Products Used: Protege loyal.
