Strength:
V-6 IS FAST - YEP THAT'S IT.
Weakness:
EVERYTHING ELSE I BOUGHT MY MAZDA IN 1998 IT WAS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND HAD 60,000 MILES ON IT. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE SPORTIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN AND BOY WOULD IT MOVE WITH THE V-6 BUT BEFORE THE MONTH WAS OVER I WAS STRANDED 1000 MILES AWAY FROM HOME ON VACATION AND THE MAZDA DEALER THERE TOOK ME FOR $800.00 TO REPLACE THE DISTRIBUTOR AND IT STILL WASN'T FIXED SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME FOR ANOTHER $200.00 THEN IT COST ME ANOTHER $1200.00 TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED AND THE GASKETS IN THE MOTOR REPLACED. ALL OF THIS WAS BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER REGISTERED THAT IT WAS RUNNING HOT. MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR. IT RAN HOT BECAUSE THE RADIATOR WAS RUSTED. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TWO ALTERNATORS, A STARTER, A WATER PUMP, A BATTERY EVERY YEAR, THE TIMING BELT AND ALL OF THE PULLEYS AND THE CLUTCH REPLACED. NEVER, EVER AGAIN WILL I BUY ANOTHER MAZDA. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE OUT TWO LOANS TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD. THEY SHOULD RECALL THIS CAR! Similar Products Used: NONE |

everything except for marksmanship can you say crap? My dad basically totally rebuilt this car within a year. when i had financial troubles we quickly traded it in and got another crappy car. (ford Focus). within 1 month of ownership my dad paid for a $800 computer chip for the transmission and it was under 36k but not covered under their powertrain warranty. Weakness:
transmission brake pads lighting I had it at 34k miles and now it has 71k miles. Transmission felt weird at 42k miles then it's replaced. lucky i got an extended warranty on it, which saves me 2k bucks. the front brake pads are weak. i repaired it twice within 2 years. catalytic converter was changed and cost me none because it's under 8/80 warranty enforced by EPA. muffler pipes were corroded through and were changed from cat behind. Other maintainence included battery, wipers, four tires. timing belt and drivebelt may need replacement soon. engine runs smooth and quiet. fuel economy is good in the same class. I hope it can last as long as my first Mazda 626 which has 200k miles when i traded it in. Similar Products Used: 1986 Mazda 626 LX |

TRANSMISSION Small odds and ends break easily and frequently I have had this car about 3 years now. I bought it for the good name of the Mazda. The first few years (I bought it at 54K miles) I had no problems. I have the V6, which I have really enjoyed. Small things started screwing up at around 75K...my window is broken, it will only go 1/3 of the way down, and it gets stuck and makes a horrible grating noise, I have broken 3 keys in the door because something is wrong with the locks... and my key ONLY unlocks the drivers side door, not the passenger door, one of the vents only blows cold air when the heat is on... The transmission is shot, and supposedly I need to have it replaced at 105K. To get the car in "proper running order" I need approx. $4500 worth of repairs. My sister has about 90K on her 95 626LX and HER transmission is shot. We've opted to deal with the car for another month, and then we're getting a Honda. Similar Products Used: Volvo 240 |

Weakness:
this car sucks. THe transmission is crap. The 1997 mazda 626 is the worst car I have ever owned. The transmission went at 45,000 miles and when I brought it into the dealer I was told that the transmission had to be replaced event though the transmission was defective. I opted to have the transmission rebuilt at aamco and it had to be rebuilt twice. I will never purchase another mazda again!! I have held onto this lemon this long hoping that the car would be recalled |

parts are hard to get first minor problem at 55,000(timing belt)also has a ford transmision :( 55,000 miles and still running good. no repairs so far.Just regular maintanence.i would buy again, accel. is pretty good, the ford does better, but is unreliable.brakes are of ok quality dont use dealer, try to get upgraded quality when done at brake shop.no heating or cooling problems, starts on first try.the trim could be of better quality, plastic breaks easy.Parts and service are hard to find only 4 dealers in a 60 mile radius. You get a good car for the price. rides like a lux and handles like a sport.Oh tires use the same type that comes with the car and road noise will go away.(michelin energy mxv4 plus-green dot)exspensive but worth it Similar Products Used: 98 ford taurus-never again(electrical,recals,steering,engine........ 96 ford contour-died at 29,000 miles.in 1996 dealer bought back 92 ford taurus wagon died at 76,000 miles in 2001 all cars were |

TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION By the way, did I mention the TRANSMISSION? Exhaust system Brakes Mass air flow sensor Seatbelt clasps (have been recalled) Headlights Oil lifters (unless the ticking noise is therapeutic) Thought it was a decent car until I found out it sucked...my transmission bit it a few days ago (at around 137,000 miles). I guess I was lucky it lasted this long! After reading the other reviews the transmission seems to be a recurring problem. I think a class action suit is well deserved!!! Also, the mass air sensor has been replaced, the brakes have been done twice since I've owned it (had 70,000 miles when purchased), and the exhaust system has been worked on at least twice, not to mention the little things that nickel and dime you to death. After owning this car I think it is safe to say I WILL NEVER BUY ONE AGAIN (unless spending money in repairs is your sick idea of fun). Fst car.

Everything is low quality. Expensive to maintain as it constantly needs repairing. I bought the car at 78,000 km and within a year I spent around $8000 on repairs. I am almost broke now !! Frist, the alternator went, then all the belts broke off, then the a/c went, then the head gasket blew and then the transmission went at 101,000 km !!! Then the water pump went, then the brakes seized and the calipers and disks went. It has very low quality parts, the outside looks cool but the engine and transmission are the worst I have ever seen. ABS Breaks always gives problems. Electrical light always comes on and Mazda dealer can't find any problems. Low quality car for the price. |

Transmission went out at 60K miles, and Aamco replaced it, the day I picked it up it broke down again. Now we're just waiting for it to happen again. When finances are right it is out of here. If I had known that Mazda had such a track record with their transmissions, I would have never wasted the time and energy. Yes the shape is very nice, interior great, but under the hood forget it. |
