The body styling is sublime: sleek and eye-catching. It's comfortable, even on long drives and corners like a Corvette. Best of all, the only problem I've had in over three years is that the cigarette lighter stopped working--and though out of warranty, the dealer simply replaced it for free. The paint (black) is shiny as new with only one professional wax job during those three+ years. It's solid as a rock--no rattles or squeaks, and has plenty of power when I need it, even with the automatic. The sound system is fantastic--on a long drive to Madison I had the sunroof open and listened to all six of Tchaikovsky's symphonies and could still hear the subtle quiet parts as well as the loud. For over-all value, comfort, and styling--and dealer support--I feel I've received much more than my money's worth our of this little gem.

Weakness:

Stupid cupholders!

What more can I say? I *may* be tempted to trade this in on a 2002 with a V-6, but then again, this one has been so trouble-free, fun to drive, and attention-getting, I might not be able to let go of it. The '97-'99 body style of the Tiburon FX still looks "concept," whereas the 2000-'01 changes were an exercise in change for the sake of change, it seems to me--and they ruined the truly classic lines of the original (especially when augmented with the pin stripes as mine is). For price, reliability, grace, and responsiveness, this car wins hands down.

I love my Tiburon. I had the choice to pick a Z-28, Trans-Am, or a MR2-Turbo (all used of course). I chose to spend a little more and get a great all aorund car. I love the exterior styling, awesome, sound system, leather, handling, acceleration, headroom (I am 6'4" and have plenty of room). I absolutely love my car. It's a gem.

Weakness:

Like everyone else has said, the cupholder is in the worst possibly position!!! Radio controls are unaccesible when cupholder is in use, and the cupholder won't hold anything bigger than a can of coke. 20 oz. bottles don't fit, and that really sucks! Sometimes it is completely impossible to shift into reverse!

I completely recommend that everyone needs a good Tiburon in their lives!!! The clutch is absolutely amazing. All of my friends who have driven mine are shocked by the ease of the clutch. It is also very stylish, and looks really good when all cleaned up. I would recommend upgrading the exhaust though. I am looking to replace the stock muffler with a Borla Boomer Muffler, or something similar. It will boost the horseys under the hood as well. A race story for you. My friend has a 2000 Ford F150 with a 240hp V6 Auto. Not only did I completely burn him off the line, but I smoked him all around. He was shocked at the performance of my little four banger. I also drove my car on a long trip. It loves the open road and has no problem cruising at 100 mph+

Strength:

Looks, definitely. That's the reason I wanted the car in the first place, and it doesn't disappoint. The price is good now, I know I got screwed since the new Tiburons have all of the options mine doesn't, and they cost less. They handle well and the amount of power is surprising. I've burned quite a few people in much nicer cars.

Weakness:

Cup holder in front of the stereo. Unforgivable. Also, the interior had=s a few minor rattles. The main weakness is the amount of time you have to spend with your local service department. I know Hyundais aren't the best cars available, but they should stand up to punishment a little better. Especially the automatic transmission, which was a problem in my past Hyundai as well.

I wanted a Tiburon back when I got my Elatntra in 1997. After beating it into submission, I finally got my Tiburon. It's probably the best car I've driven, and it really garners a lot of compliments. I'm anxious to try a new one, but I'm sure they're exactly the same. Now, I understand that I drive my car rough, and the transmission doesn't take rough driving well at all. It's been in the shop about 4 times now, all for minor things, but it's still really inconvenient to not have a car. I love my car, so I tend to overlook that fact when I talk about it to others. Hyundai has that great warranty because their cars aren't very solid. That hurts it's value in the long run, but the car is a blast to drive and turns a lot of heads.

Strength:

The Tiburon has strong power for being Hyundai, not as popular as Honda/Mazda/Toyota/Acura & Mitsubishi's. But overall i love my Tiburon have done 0-60 in just 8.5sec.. this thing moves. Plus just 2 months ago i purchased an cold air intake..sparkplugs..Exhaust..and 1.5"lowering springs front and rear. And i tell you like i tell my components i race" you want some come get some".

Weakness:

Cupholder right in front of your radio unit and the car only average's 24-28 miles per gallon tank. Didn't know Hyundai had a cut off speed refering to governer, iv'e only been able to do 118mph and that's it. I thought that was only on Hondas,Mitsubishis, and Acuras.

The Tiburon has satisfied me in almost every way but accept for averaging gas and the radio unit. Overall i like it the Tib has very dependable reliabilty on crusing long road trips. I kinda wanna get the 2002 Tiburon i kinda hear that it will have a 6-banger DOCH 16-v almost around 180 horses. Look out Si's,Se-r's,and Gsx's here it comes. Driving is believing and so should you wait for the 2002 Tib.

Strength:

After reading some of these reviews, I have to agree that the looks of the Tiburon is its strongest feature. However, I think my Tiburon handles great and possesses a little "get-up-and-go". I bought it used and have had no problems with it other than some vandalism, but I think they were jealous.

Weakness:

On the verge of repeating everyone else, the twisted seatbelt has to be the most annoying part of the car. I don't hear much of the other noises that were mentioned (i.e. dashboard, interior noises) or just not as annoyed by them (i.e. engine). As a matter of fact, I love the sound the engine makes.

Overall I have decided that I made the right purchase, buying the Tiburon. If it's this great used, I could only imagine how it is brand new.

I also think that Hyundai took a step back with the new look of the 2001s. The '97/'98s were definately the best looking.

Strength:

Look is always a personal choice. I think my 98 Tiburon is the best looking car in it's class. Comparing to the other sport cars in the same price range, you get the best look, about the same performance, better warranty and more. The Clarion CD player that came standard with my SE is better then what 100 000$ cars have.

Weakness:

Once again, comparing it with other cars in it's class and same price range, i see no weeknesses what so ever.

I've had my Tiburon for 3 years and 50 000 miles. The only part
that has been changed is the clutch bearing which was under warranty.
he stock tires are top of the line. Traction is excellent. The leather interior looks great. I constantly have people i don't know talking to me telling me how nice my car is. Most people think it's a much more expensive car then it actualy is. I love my Tiburon and i do not regret buying it.
I can't wait for the 6cyl 2002 Tiburon to come out. If i like the look, i will buy it without worries. If you're looking for a fun sporty car to drive and it's in the price range you can afford, go for it.

This is a fast, stylish, affordable Coupe. Folks think I paid many thousands more for it. It is well put together and has good integrity. Muffler has a nice, deep tone. Interior is the Batmobile. LARGE space in back for hauling with seats down. Leather is great.
