Strength:

Looks great Good road feel Comfortable seating Lots of cargo space

Weakness:

Paint is peeling off the car and it is only 18 months on the road. Any more of this happeneing and thewhole front end of my car is going to be repainted

I have the Elantra GT. I like the car, very european styling and drive feel. Great for someone who likes the luxury cars but can't quite afford one. I did get the leather option and even though the leather feels cheap it has been standing up so far. Had a bit of a problem with the stereo/CD when I picked it up but it was replaced and now works fine.

I came from a VW GTI and even thought I don't have quite the handling that I used to, I don't feel like I have taken a huge step down in cars.

Strength:

Comfortable ride, excellent warranty, good visability, attractive style.

Weakness:

Key rings scratch the plastic under the ignition key.

Had a lot of reservations about buying a Hyundai, however, the warranty, general comfort, power, equipment, and visability led me to make the purchase. Could not be happier with the decision. Anyone who is not interested in throwing money after status, should check out the Hyundai.

Strength:

The elantra has a lot of features for the dollar such as the p/w,drs and of course the 100K warranty. The car looks good and has been dependable. I bought the car new with 56000 miles and have not had any problems yet.

Weakness:

Even with the adjustable drivers seat, the seat is stiff and uncomfortable. The only other weakness is the acceleration. For a car rated at 140 horses I expected a little more get up.

My Hyundai has been a good dependable car.

Strength:

Interior. Suspension & Handling. Engine power. Brakes. Unique Euro Style -- Hatchback.

Weakness:

Not a high status car but a smart buy.

I bought it without a test drive. It's a Hyundai -- so I convinced myself that this is the best car for me because I couldn't afford them Hondas & Toyotas. SANANABITZ! This car is sick! It can handle like a Mazda Protege5 and with less interior noise too. I am quite happy with this car and I now think for the price I paid ($14500 fully loaded except for A/T) it really is a STEAL. I suggest you drive an Elantra GT before getting a Honda, Toyota, etc.

Strength:

runs smoothly over bumps, zips through traffic, stylish sporty look, good head interior, roomy, fast once it gets to an acceleration after a slow takeoff.. power everything and side airbags.

Weakness:

paint is tooo cheap, bad plastic interior quality, dents outside easily, acceleration at beginning, service could be better.

I had my car little over two years. For the most part the car ran fairly well. I did have a problem with the breaks crunching when depressed. Took to the dealer and they said it matches manufacturer specifications. Can't say anything good about the cheap plastic interior parts. The inside nail coverings pop off when you close the doors. I keep having to put them back in. The stereo, CD, air knob paint is wearing off. What else, oh yeah, the outside paint chips and scratches tooooo easily. Veeerrry bad paint. Another thing is the acceleration. Very poor too. I also had to take it to the dealer to be checked by the computer due to a "holding back" or hesitation problem between gears 1 and 2. I went to the dealer two times for this same problem. I also asked about the rusty wheel wells. They went from black to pure rust. called the dealer they said they rust overnight and happens to all cars. I only have about 9,000 miles on my car too.... wouldn't buy another one either.. Gas milage could be better too...I also had to take to the dealer because the CD stopped working. They had to replace the whole unit..I also went to pick my car up at the dealer late in the day right before they closed and to my surprise noone was in the service station window to answer my questions..One last thing the service station is expensive when it comes to warranty maintenance...

Best buy out there. I prefer it to the Civic, Corola, and other small cars. Considerably less in cost and performs better

Strength:

The list is very long, but to name a few: price, warranty, Euro-style suspension, leather interior, CD-player with 6-speaker system, sunroof, and all the little extras like the lights turning off when they key is removed from the ignition.

Weakness:

For the class of cars it is in, I see none.

We started out looking at the accent and sedan, but had to get the GT after taking it for a test-drive. We had also looked at Toyota Corollas and Ford Focuses, but they just didn't compare with the warranty, all the extras that came standard, and comfort of the Elantra GT. Granted, the gas mileage isn't as good as a Toyota, but its nothing to laugh at either. The Euro-style suspension is great and a very big plus (try taking it through the mountains!!). We got the manual transmission and love it. Driving it is more enjoyable than many other cars I have driven, and it feels like you are in a $20,000 car. In addition, we have had a wonderful experience with the dealership and Corporation so far. Especially since it was our first time buying a new car, we were apprehensive but the whole process could not have gone any smoother. So we have had it for 9 months and have had no problems.

Power! great gas milage

Weakness:

None so far

What a great car so far. I know nothing about the Hyundai, but took it for a test drive, and loved it. My old car(RIP) a 1977 Chrysler Newport gave up the ghost in New Mexico, so switching from a 400 HP to the 140, is quite a change. But I must say for the better. Berrer pick up. Better gas milage. But I still miss my old car.

Strength:

Besides the look and value, there are tons of thoughtful features: headlights turn off automatically when key is removed, locks pop back open if you leave key in the ignition and try to lock the door, all power window switches illuminatd at night, very cool purple gauges on the GT, dual vanity mirrors, great center armrest with deep storage, amazing hatchback cargo room. The list goes on. They paid attention to the little things. Much better than a Civic!

Weakness:

PAINT. The black paint stinks! Do not buy black if you can help it. If you don't wipe off bird droppings or bugs immediately it will eat through the paint. All sorts of chips on the paint as well. Not enough power either, but at this price you can't complain. Also: purple gauges are great but everything else in the car is green and it clashes. Some rattling from the passenger seat and the doors will rattle sometimes if the music is turned up loud. I've had no reason to bring the car in for warranty service in 24,000 miles.

I was lucky to find a black 2002 Elantra GT with ABS back in February 02. I now have almost 24,000 miles on the car and I must say I am very satisfied with it. I can't believe all of the things that come standard and all of the thoughtful features packed into it. I bought it because I like hatchbacks and wanted a Saab 9-3 but couldn't afford one. The Elantra GT is the next best thing. The thought of getting a Hyundai was embarassing at first and I got teased, but even my BMW and Honda friends like it.

warranty (sounds good-try to use it) poor attitude, the dealership as well as the corporation

We bought our Elantra new and for the most part have had a good experience with it.It seems to have plenty of power after you get above 3000 rpm with the 5 speed manual transmision. With all the "goodies" you get for the money it's a pretty good deal.we have 25,000 miles on it and the clutch went out, called roadside assistance who told us it was under warranty, had it towed to the dealership who told us it was not under warranty and said it would be $995.00 to repair it! I went to pick up the car to take it to a more affordable repair shop and they charged me $37.45 for diagnostic fee's when they already knew what the problem was before it was towed to the shop. The stock tires were terrible, they lasted 14,000 miles. My suggestion is before you buy a Hyundai talk with people who have had warranty issue's with the dealership as well as the corporation.
