Strength:

Delivering 32+ mpg, mixed city/highway driving. While not a sportscar, very satisfying handling and acceleration performance. I love the speed-sensitive steering, solid at high speeds, yet easy to maneuver into tight parking spaces. Plenty roomy for 4 average adults. Excellent 5 speed transmission, precise and easy shifting, perfect gear ratios. Surprisingly quiet at highway cruising speeds... at 70mph the engine doesn't even "break a sweat". This car is rated quite well by the insurance industry which should translate into lower insurance costs compared to many other small cars. Superb headlights, enjoyable to drive at night. Solid chassis, no rattles or vibrations. Engine idles very smoothly. Many surprising "extras" included in the base vehicle like AC with excellent controls, power windows/door locks, heated power mirrors, remote trunk release, large lighted glovebox, lighted trunk, lots of storage areas and pockets, well-designed cup holders front and rear, map lights, and even a padded fold-down sunglasses storage space.

Weakness:

Engine is noisy when accelerating, and its not a particularly melodious tone. While I prefer firm supportive adjustable seats, which this car does have, I would like them just a bit softer. The gray cloth interior which my car has, is quite handsome, but the beige interior available with other paint colors, is just plain ugly in my opinion. Oh, and a piece of important advice... thoroughly test drive the vehicle you intend to buy, ask to test drive it again the day you pick it up, definitely include some highway driving in your test, check out every function, every feature, and do all of this before passing papers. Do not accept delivery unless your Hyundai is perfect!

I love cars, new cars especially. Over the last 25 years I have personally purchased at least 15 new cars, everything from entry level commuter econoboxes to $30,000 SUVs and $40,000 German sports cars. Believe it or not, my new Hyundai Elantra GLS falls some where in the mid-range of these cars that I have owned, despite it's very low selling price. I like this car! It is extremely well-equipped, quite comfortable, thoughtfully designed with many unexpected creature comforts, has clean good looks, and surprisingly good fuel economy for a vehicle that also sports above-average performance for a vehicle in this class. I have been telling my friends that "I have never felt smarter about a car purchase" than I do about this one.

Once RPM's pick-up to about 3000 you can feel fair to good acceleration for
A four banger. I'm really surprised at these cars' features and price as compared to the Honda Civic. The Transmission shifts secretly, only thing I hear is some road noise. Awesome on gas and fairly roomy. Trunk is large, can't beat the warranty and one you drive one you just might like it after driving a Honda Civic. Safety features kick but. I fit well for being 6+ feet tall, almost like it's a sports car or something. Overall can't complain.

Weakness:

Acceleration moderate but great for a four banger.

I really like the newer cars Hyundai’s putting out. I use to hate them but now I own one and they sure have come a long way. After looking into the market for similar cars one can say "hay you can't beat it".

Strength:

The cars styling is very nice and looks and drives like a much more expensive vehicle. The interior is generally plain but very convenient little gadgets and whatnot. It is very roomy although the seats are a little hard. I made sure to buy one with manual transmission and it was well worth it. It is extremely fun to drive. The handling is a little bit above average but the engine in the higher Rpm's really shines and pumps out some good ponies. I believe the suspension should have been a little stiffer but, I cant really complain, the price was a plain steal for a car with Cd, Moonroof, and all the amenities it included. They should have put a trunk release button on the keyless entry system, but there I go nitpicking again. I have not had the car for long but as time passed I am more convinced I made a great decision.

Weakness:

Some parts seem a little flimsy, like the sheetmetal and some interior features. Did not go with the black moulding around the car, would have made it look even better. Seats should be softer. Upholstry (seat)tan color is just plain ugly. Lack of leather availability and the ABS option was a bit disappionting. It is Very hard to find a manual Elantra with the worthwhile option packages such as 4 and 5.

It is fun to drive, reasonably comfortable, great on gas and looks great.

-great warranty(10yr/100,000mi warranty) -nice interior -great price -peppy little engine(2.0 li 140hp) -great fuel economy -nice new styling -really good safety features( ABS/Traction control and 4 airbags)

Weakness:

-seats could have been a little softer but I am sure that in time they will soften up other than that this car rocks and for that price it cannot be beat.

This car is a great pick (if not the best) amongst the economy sedans. I got the one with the ABS/Traction control package. I did extensive research before buying this car and it is definitely the best bang for the buck. Before taxes my price was $14,130 my car included way too many cool standard features to list. For those of you thinking of buying a civic, neon, sentra, saturn, kia, corolla or any other economy sedan for that matter, do yourself a favor and at least test drive one of these first and take home that Elantra brochure. You won't be dissapointed!!! Hyundai has come a long way, they say driving is believing, well I am now a believer. This car was a great buy and I could not be happier with my new car!!

3 (THREE) YES "3" Transmissons in 40,000 miles, put 1996 trans in 1998 auto (rebuilt) .Service needs a little more PR ,first they told use a 3 day job ,no loaner car so we rented a car for 3 day's .They had transmission in in one day, But we still had rental we were stuck with for 2 more days "OUR COST" .This car down shifts from 70 mph to 45 mph in a split second then corrects itself, The dealer thinks it is safe to drive until appointment. The funny thing is we still own money on this car,we are at the mercy of dealer and auto maker.so remember when you buy they treat you nice, when you come back for service your just a number.

I think if auto companies treated buyer's with the same respect when you have service as they do when you buy.Don't you feel 3 transmissions in 40,000 is a few toomany/ I also feel that this e-mail won't be posted anywhere ,whewre the buying public can read it. thank you

Strength:

I like the appearance and the reliability of the car. 5 speed manual makes it quite zippy and fun to drive.

Weakness:

I have kids in the car all the time and the interior upholstery stains ridiculously easily. Even water drops leave permanent stains. Also interior mouldings and plastic buttons holding them together have mostly broken/fallen off. It takes very little to dent it also.

I really enjoy driving this car and have had no major problems, but the minor ones, like the upholstery, make the car look old fast. I would consider buying a new one just because of the price and the way it drives but I would hope the interior had some improvements.

Strength:

Looks good, Plenty of power under the hood, Great list of standard features, Drives smooth and handles well. Enough leg and head room inside (i'm 6'5"). Even the backseat is roomy. Reliable (having the best warranty helps that out a lot). Just all around good value.

Weakness:

Dents easily, and that is the only weakness I have found with this car.

I think this is a great car for the money. Hyundai has come a long way in the past several years. I would have never thought about buying a Hyundai even 5 years ago, but now I would be open to buying any hyundai automobile, from Accent to Santa Fe. I think in some people's minds Hyundai is still an unreliable car, but people need to wake up and realize that things change. Hyundai is closing in on those Japanese quality cars. I have had no problems with my car, I have had it for 5 months and put 10,000 miles on it. Great so far. DEFINATELY take a look at this car if you are in the market for a quality new car with a low sticker price.
