HYundai Accent
Strength:
Reliability, gas mileage, still looks good after 8 years besides some paint chips.
Weakness:
Road noise, ride quality (not too quiet) Definately get some options with it if you do. The only option I have is heat :) I've been driving this car ever since I started to drive. My Mother bought it new back in '96 and besides scheduled maintenance I really haven't had anything go wrong. There are the usual drawbacks to a small car such as the noise and less powerfull engine, but I've got a 5 speed and I've beat a lot of people off the line. Also there is a considerable amount of effort to fit 5 people in it, but hey, when you're in college creature comforts are few anyway. The best part about the car is it's reliability and gas mileage. I've never been scared to take it on a road trip or been shy in inclement weather. Trust me, I live in North Dakota! This puppy can plow through a lot of snow if you know what you're doing. Really, I think this is a great car for the money; it's been said that it doesn't ride like a Lexus and it's true, but if you're a commuter you'll save a bundle investing in a Hyundai. I mentioned to a friend that I was thinking of trading up my car and a friend said "Why? your car is great!" How many 8 year old cars can you say that about? Accent/two door
Strength:
gas mileage, price, back seats in hatch fold down to allow for hauling stuff home from yard sales (can you see the pattern here?)
Weakness:
acceleration I bought this economy car because it still had about 20k miles left on the transferable warranty. But, I haven't needed the warranty because it has been dependable. I drive 20 miles to work, while waiting for a few traffic lights, and I have been averaging 36mpg with this manual stick vehicle. Okay, so I don't beat most cars off the line when the light turns green. I keep more green in my wallet than them. This car deserves a look if you're in the market for a trustworthy economy car. Accent GSi
Strength:
Cheap on gas Affordable Nice look
Weakness:
No ABS I bought the 2003 Accent GSi December of 2002. I never really thought of getting the accent, until the 2003 models came out. It's a nice, affordable car. The only problem is there's no ABS. That is kinda scary, especially during winter driving. Not good. Otherwise I recommend people who are looking for a non-expensive, cheap on gas, small car. This is a great car for students, especially getting to and from school. And most of my friends like the look. |

Sufficient power Gas Mileage Looks Handling Comfort
Weakness:
Lack of ABS. I love this car. The fact that it does not have ABS scares me a little. Aside from that I love the gas mileage, comfort in the cab, and the little 1.6 liter engine. I am a tall guy and fit in this car quite well. I bought it for 9997 brand new. It had 18 miles and in three weeks I have put 1800 miles on it. The car is a VERY nice smokey gray and looks rather sharp. The undercarriage is PACKED with tar. The undercarriage will NEVER rust. It handles like a dream. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a commuter car. After doing research I found this car to be, not only inexpensive, but very high quality. The next cheapest is the Kia. Don't even bother with them. It does not hold up to the Accent. Similar Products Used: 1995 Dodge Neon. This was a stinker of a car |

GL Luxury Package
Strength:
-Interior features are relatively complete, especially in Canada. -Price already include Freight, PDI, and Taxes. The car price is $15500. -Very stable to drive in city. Low Rev --Torque is fast enough to pick up speed @ a red light right turn in a short time. -Good looking (for me) -CD player is good (for me) -Air flow in car is effienent. interior decoration is relatively not as cheap. (can't expect too much for this price import car, right?) -relatively quiet interior in city -tire is quiet and comfortable (Hankook) -drive seat has 7 ways to adjust. -lots of room to place maps, magazines, coins, and nice design cup holders (2 fount 1 rear) for such a small car.
Weakness:
-gas consumsion is high recently -gear noise is noticeable recently @ below 20km/h -13" wheels... and 175/70 R13 tires, filtered a lot of road informations. -small interior -no gear display on dash -1 air bag(having 2 in 2004 model) -many friend may not like it and ask you why buying such a car. Need to explain many times it fits me. I live in Vancouver Canada. The price I paid is in Canadian dollor. This car in this package comes with power windows, power lock, air conditioning, heated mirror and manual 7 ways adjust driver seat. Mechanical part, it has a 1.6L DOHC engine, fount and rear sway bar, and Found disc rear drum brake. Compare with these price range, this car has the most interior feature I want. That's the main reason I brought this little 4 doors sedan. I found I am quite unique on the road, coz you may not meet another accent easily. For ppl in the states, you may need to consider this car is not powerful enough and quite noisy. But in Vancouver, it is a good city car since we have drive much slower, and places are very concentrate to a small area, so we don't need to drive on freeway exceed 60mph so often. Since I drive relativly slow, arround 50-90km/h, so... as you know, this car is quiet enough for me to enjoy some symphany CDs :D. I almost forgot, it comes with a Hyundai CD player and 4 speakers.(Clarion OEM) Sounds quite clear for me, bass not too heavy. I like this style. I am not too satisify with the fuel consumtion. I just fill 3 tanks. average 9km/L in city and 15km/L on highway (I went out of town once)... I expect it can go up to 12km/L in city after Run in. But that gas consumtion record is what I experienced. As an mechanical technologist, I believe a machine with proper care, it can last quite a long time. I just brough this car for 1 month. I didn't do anything not following the instruction ask me to: drive arround 2000-4000rpm, not to exceed 88km/h, but I had experience to have emergency change lane to dodge a sudden slow down car. Also I drove out of town to a mountain road, I found that car has significant body roll, but it is limited by the sway bars. What i and my friend feel is when the car roll a little bit, it becomes steady and let you keep turning. I think the control of this car is quite good, if you drive properly, it can save you from danger resonably. But the overall driving touch is quite blur. The steering is heavy enough, but cannot feel too much infromation form the road. May be I didn't drive fast enough. But that's what I feel recently. This thing I must mention, the air in the car is very good. When all the glass is blur, the heat and fan, only fan, not AC, can clear the fog in car in 2 minutes completely. AC is not stronger than other Japanese AC, just about the same. That means in Vancouver, at the hottest day, you can be freezed in the car in 20 mins. A main reason is this car is a small car. interior space is ok, since I am only 5'7" tall, just a normal size for a southern Chinese, so I think I am as tall as many asian. For ppl taller than me, you may feel this car is too small. you may not enjoy driving it, and even seat at the back. But for me, and my family, they think it is big enough. No complain. In conclusion, I think my choice can balance the feature, power, control, $$, and my family request. I made a good choice. But it may not fit a lot of people, who need to drive on freeway every day. I think power may be a main concern in N.America. In Asia cities, it is a good choice for an entrance car. :D I recommand that for people who need a car to work, and drive out once a while in the holiday to picnic, or with friends to have bubble tea... etc... Accent
Strength:
Just about everything.
Weakness:
Don't know anything extraordinary yet. After having a used car for years that was breaking down every week and not being able to afford my dream car, I needed something affordable and reliable. Recently took a roadtrip to Colorado and think I will spare my Accent another journey like that one... although it made the steeper, mountain peaks a bit sluggishly but without objecting, I was careful not to push it and it handled the smaller, shorter hills just fine. But really didn't expect this smaller engine to zoom up inclines anyway. The mileage was about what I'd hoped for on the highway, not so great in stop and go city driving, the trip cost less in gas than I'd expected. The only problem I've really had so far is the panel to the gas cap needs to be fixed and plan to do that on the next regular servicing. For a while, the engine was reving up when at a stop but ONLY when I'd been doing a lot of city driving. No problems after the road trip. Don't tell the cops, but my little Accent had no problem at all passing trucks at 95 mph in Wyoming. I don't think it chips any worse than other cars necessarily. Got hit by a CHIPS hubcap that flew off in a high speed chase (not after me, but I was in the wrong place at the wrong time) and while it did chip off the paint, no dents! Being a girl, I did have to settle for white exterior with a gray interior because it matched better than the other colors and same gray interior... Everything This vehicle is a piece of crap. DO NOT BUY ONE!!! I have had so many problems with it: rust, hatch won't open properly, windows fall out, water pump, control arms, tires, washer pump & sprayers, wipers...you name it! If it hasn't happened to me, it's happened to friends and relatives who own one. DON'T BUY IT!! |

Inexpensive. I consider it a 'disposable'. Drive it 100000k and throw it away.
Weakness:
Noisy, Transmission broke at 19k miles, gas milage not up to expectations. Third gear went out on a manual transmission. UNHEARD OF!. It's been in the shop for almost 3 weeks for a 'rebuild'. I only get about 31-32 mpg where its about 2/3 freeway, 1/3 city driving. I would expect a little more from something that small. Noisy as hell at freeway speed. |
