PRELUDE BASE
Strength:
-Handling excellen -Love the roid noise -Enough aftermarket parts to get busy -200 HP off the lot.....Not bad -Intimidating -Nice radio package for factory system -Great gear box
Weakness:
-Small tires -Hope you're not a professional basketball player(head room) -Needed more options -Gone to the graveyard People, people, you know I started this sport compact car thing three years ago and never looked back. It seems that some of you out there in TV land are missing the point. You see it's not about Americans or Japanese, it's about the car people. All the slanderin going around is unnecessary, we all bought the car because it's a nic piece a work. The standard power, the styling, and the women who want to be in the seat next to you. The only mods I did over the three years (bought the car in '99) was an intake and Eibach pro spring kit. I was on the verge of gettin a sweet Fmaxx turbo or a Jackson supercharger, when it happened. I got married and had a little one. So yeah, the back seat is cramped up, but we knew that when we took it off the lot. The paint is easy to scratch, and the body could use a little more steroids. But damn, that car is and was a classic sport coupe. Too bad Honda's only looking at the smaller picture and not realizing that the car just wasn't marketed well, if it had the same exposure as it's older brother (accord), maybe they might've kept this gem. The v-tec along with the 200 horses gave it enough kick right there, and remeber for a four cylinder car. So why are people talkin about Cobras, and Supras, and shh like that when a four bangers holdin its own against the muscle. So no, I don't expect many preludes to beat a damn Cobra off the gate, use your head. Unfortunately, I gave the car up, but not on the streets for sale, or for the used lot. I didn't even want to trade in the classic, I gave it to a younger brother. My new ride is a 2002 Audi A4, and if Honda would've kept the Prelude, I could've save $31,000, or given it to them. Hell, I say we all write Honda and let them know how we, the consumer feels. Everybody can't afford a $32,000 S2000, not practical for everyone. Overall, this car gave me two minor problems in 3 years with 74,000 miles (startin from 0), so you do the math. Similar Products Used: Acura Vigor Audi A4 |

Prelude VTEC
Strength:
Good Power/Acceleration Decent Gas milage for a sports car Nice looking vehicle Good handling Good reliability Plenty of options for aftermarket parts Could probably win a water skiing contest
Weakness:
Not good over bumps or dips/too low Very, Very small back seat Very small trunk Had a few problems with hydroplaning Stock exaust is restictive. I was driving a '96 Civic EX that I'd modified to about 170 hp. I still owed $9000 on it and it already had 90000 miles. It was running great but I didn't want to pay that much for that car. I saw this VTEC Prelude and drove it. It drove better than my Civic and it was nearly half the price with 118000 miles on it. I found a way to buy it and I feel much better about my situation now. This car has a few problems. I have squeeking sounds that nobody can figure out. It has been lowered so it's even worse on bumps. There is also a few trim problems on the windows. I've had some problems with maintenance do to it being too low (couldn't get alignment done, couldn't get oil change). Don't expect to cary and cargo or more than two people in it though. Overall, for $5500, this car is killer. How the Japanese push out 190 HP from a 2.2L 4 cylinder engine is beyond me. This car is the best mix of a Sports/Economy car. Prelude 2.0 Si AWS
Strength:
Bang for your buq. Driven normally I get 25 mpg on a car with 170k on the original engine. The sunroof is big and very smooth, lots of compartments, easy to fix and maintain on your own, decent trunck, original paint still sharp, the rims are better than a lot of new cars.
Weakness:
I am 6'5" and while leg room is no problem, head room is. The driver side window rattles at around 70. Cupholder? Backseat, I don't even know why they put one in. People like to break into Honda's too. Great car. Has all the things that are desired: affordable, quick, attractive, reliable, economical. I plan on holding onto this car until they pry my fingers from the wheel. It will be worth alot of money one day. Not to many cars out there quite like a Prelude. The AWS has got to be experienced to believe. I can flip a U-ee in a two lane road without touching either shoulder, the radius is about 15 feet, it's incredible. The style is also stupendous. The Prelude, and Honda in general, was 5 years ahead of every other manufacturer in terms of styling except for Acura. Mine is light blue, power everything, coupe, spoiler. Really choice. It is a sports car, albeit a lower tier one. The stick is gated and reasonably short shifting. The clutch has a very short throw that takes a couple weeks to adapt to, but when you do, it is a hoot. Like all Jap sports cars prior to the mid nineties the low end is crap, however it absolutely sings at 4-6000 revs. Second gear is the one to be in. Dropping from third to second from about 3500 will launch it, tons of fun. Similar Products Used: 93 Integra |

Strength:
high rpm power, handeling, though no longer in the car its factory sterio acoustic feed back system sounded damn good for a factory. handles well and looks great, as well as the honda name.
Weakness:
no real options for the car what you buy is what you get. The honda prelude is a car of honor and class. I have the diamond with model with a wing and body kit and Rage road huggers. and a1 4 inch custom exhaust. Nothing surpasses this cars ride. you get a nice sunday cruise when you drive it normaly with out getting thrown around, and when you punch it and let the vtech kick in you head is thrown in the seat. I have a forced air inuction system giving the vtech what it loves (air)and am sitting on 300 horses. supras and ss''s can kiss my exhaust man. this car is a best buy in my book its priced well easy to beef up and looks beutifull. Oh I hear a lot about ppl wondering what the vibration and funny sound is when you start up the car, that feeling and sound is the abs pump turning on. /Prelude 2.2Si
Strength:
Looks, power, handling.
Weakness:
Pathetic interior storage space, fuel economy. I have a ''92 BA8 (Japanese market 2.2 Si). I bought it in June ''99 with 71,000 km on the clock, and as of May 2002 it''s covered a total of 112,500 kms. Apart from a failed distributor bearing (something to watch on the F22B DOHC engine), the car has been faultlessly reliable. With a 5-speed manual ''box, performance from the 160 bhp engine is certainly on the generous side of "adequate". Not wanting to destroy my clutch, I haven''t done any 0 - 60 runs, but I suspect the time would be in or around 8.0 secs. As mine is a Japanese market car, top speed is limited to 180 km/h (112 mph). This is fine in Ireland, where the highest speed limit is 70 mph (112 km/h), but German drivers might find 180 km/h a bit slow for fast-lane Autobahn cruising! The previous owner of my car fitted 16" Wolfrace alloys, shod with 205/50 rubber. Grip from the Continental SportContacts is excellent, but the non-standard tyres mean that when the limit of grip is finally reached things can get pretty scary. Snap oversteer is the order of the day, especially if the rears are any way worn-down. Not for the faint of heart! On smooth roads the ride is excellent, but once things start getting bumpy, the 50-profile tyres on my car make sure you can feel every surface irregularity. The view from the driver''s seat is something of a jet-fighter look, with sweeping ovals for revs and speed, an digital arcs for fuel and temperature. It''s beginning to show its age, but at least it''s different! Overall the fit is snug, with all the controls falling easily to hand. Interior stowage space isn''t great. The glovebox is a joke, and apart from the door bins there isn''t really anywhere else to keep stuff. This means that the back seat of my car is usually littered with CDs, maps, and other junk - an open invitation to thieves. Other than that, the interior is a very comfortable place to be. My other main gripe is with fuel economy, or rather the lack thereof. Stuck in traffic, I struggle to reach 9.0 km/l (25 mpg UK); on long gentle runs (but let''s face it, this car doesn''t really encourage you to be gentle!) it might stretch to 12.2 km/l (34 mpg UK). Not terrible, but fairly thirsty for a 2.2 litre, and with 95 RON unleaded costing the equivalent of US$1.00 a litre, it all adds up. Overall I love the car and would recommend one to anyone looking for a cheap, reliable spor Similar Products Used: Honda CRX |

Prelude
Strength:
Great high end power, esp. when the VTEC kicks in Well balanced suspension- stiff in corners yet rides nice on the freeway Best five speed under 30K - tight feel, short throws Aggressive yet classy good looks Well designed interior Overall: A Blast to drive everyday!
Weakness:
Few undetermined rattles (sunroof & door) Needs more torque Could use a little more low end power Tires reach limit in corners before the car CAN''T BUY IT IN THE US ANYMORE!!! This is a fabulous car to own as an exciting every day driver. Utilitiy wise, it''s got enough room to take care of two people and their golf clubs. Plus, it gets great gas milage, even in the city. Style wise, it has a great conservative/staight edge look that draws compiments, yet at the same time, is agressive enough to draw looks and stop-light competitors. Value wise, it''s price is right on target with competition, but the car itself is far better than anything under 30K- Good looks, high resale, honda reliability, and the engine. Aaaahhhhhhhh, the engine-and finally, performance wise. The Prelude will go as far as you push it without missing a beat (although the stock tires may hold you back). Good response in first as long as you keep those revs high, and a sweet kick of power above 4500 rpm when the VTEC kicks in, not to mention the pleasing sound of engine. Although it may not be the most powerful engine or the fastest off the line, take this car fast into a corner and then punch the accelerator on the way out and you''ll realize this is the best overall sports car under 30K.
