Great on mileage. Good in the snow.
Weakness:
Just that I have to keep turning to the dealership to get the defects fixed. The car had been 1/4 reliable other then the cylinder lock breaking a total of three times in less than 2 years and a pipe that was unattached in the exaust system (which was a manufacturer defect). Actually all has been a manfacturer defect, that, thank God I did not have to pay for. The dealership replace all for me at no cost. I dont understand though why the cylinder lock keeps malfunctioning in the ignition column. I dont know if its the car or the parts the dealers are putting in. |

Pretty quick, awesome stereo system that came standard, very cute car
Weakness:
Everything else My dad and bought this car brand new with just a few miles on it. I was 17 and it was my first new car. I was so excited when I got it I was in it constantly! I was so happy with my car until it reached about 20,000 miles. Everything went downhill. My brake system had to be entirely replaced which cost $750, right now my air conditioning is going out, my clutch is going out, and it makes weird noises and broke down on the side of the road. There are so many times I have gone to the dealership and they don't know what's wrong with it. One minute it's broken down, next it's fine. By reading everyone else's reviews, it makes me feel so much better that I'm not the only one with a bad focus. HUGE MISTAKE!!! I'm trying to trade it in but the trade in value is horrible! |

Weakness:
The whole car. Horrible gas milage. For a sedan it is way to small. Overall this car is NOT worth the money, time or stress. I bought this car in Feb. of 2004. It was a new car with 190 miles on it, test driven(should have been my first clue). The first week that I had it, it was in the shop for a mable rolling noise in the front drivers side. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. After that it has been in the shop at least once a month. I have had this car now for 10 months. After they decided that the noise in the front end was normal(whatever) the car started to act like the transmission was falling out of it while you would drive down the road. They can't find anything wrong. It stalls out and shakes while driving but, once again they can't find anything wrong with it. My trunk latch doesn't like to latch and it takes me 2 to 3 times to get it to shut. And now the back door locks are going out. Ford has told the dealership that these problems are not an immediate danger to my health therefore, it is not consider to be a lemon. I have contacted the BBB and my state rep. and nothing has been done. I have 3 children under the age of 5 and something needs to be done with this piece of crap. I guess I should have done my research before allowing my salesman to talk me into this car. If I ever get out of it I will NEVER buy a ford again and have told everyone that will listen not to buy one and not to buy from Long McAuthur in KS. |

Focus ZX3
Strength:
Great handling, nice design inside and out and the engine was good.
Weakness:
Ford. The service provide. I’ll start out saying, our ford focus ZX3 was manufactured in Mexico (great for vacationing, but that’s where I draw the line). Our beef mainly lies with the Ford manufacturer and two dealers Richport Ford Lincoln in Richmond B.C. and Dam’s Ford Lincoln in Surrey B.C. We realize that a vehicle is an inademate object and has no control over its issues, causes and effects, that was for Ford to correct and that is where they became the problem. They absolutely refused to resolve our issues. I found myself many times frustrated and flustered trying to get someone to listen and take me seriously. The manager at Richport Ford Lincoln went so far as to call me a liar (never having met me either) on one occasion about chronic issues we were experiencing with our Focus and promises I had been made by our sales rep. Their idea of trying to resolve this situation was to buy back our vehicle for less than 1/3 of the price we paid and then try to put us into another newer vehicle tacking on top the balance of our first mistake. Dam’s Ford Lincoln’s service manager was a royal pain in the butt, he was constantly double talking us and trying to screw us around… and DID until I finally called an old friend who dealt with Ford often came to our aid and could see through the BS and get him to actually DO SOMETHING rather than just find new ways to make me crazy. I can honestly say nearly 2 years after being rid of Ford and that wretched Focus, I have never been more DISGUSTED at a service or product in my life!!! I enjoyed our focus for the times we actually got to see it when it wasn’t in shop or on the fritz or dead on the side of the road. Pretty good engine. Zip. Tight handling and so fun to drive. I was in love… for about two weeks when it all went to the dogs. We ended up selling it a year or more later, it to some unsuspecting victim… okay I feel slightly bad, but we had fixed EVERYTHING on it out of our own pockets in the end before passing it off for thousands less than it was worth. My husband was a courier and our truck had engine problems, we decided to go and buy a hatch back so we could have trunk room and fuel economy at an “affordable” price. Our problems started within 2 weeks of driving off the lot. We heard what sounded like the transmission slipping. There was condensation in the light fixtures and seat threads unraveling, something with the steering column or ball joints (if this car even has them) that were cracking when turning corners or accelerating, trim was falling off, OH and there was aftermarket welding under the steering column where the lever for adjusting the wheel used to be… they denied that one, but we knew. It would occasionally stall when accelerating on highway entrance ramps too. There are a series of other faults, but I don’t recall offhand and I’m just throwing this together in my spare time. A service guy at Damns Ford Lincoln in Surrey B.C. decided that it was the serpentine belt that was squeaking (duh) so he came out with a tub of goo and smeared it all over the belt and sent us packing. That was one of the first few times we tried to get “the squeak” fixed… that was also about the time we realized just what IQ level we were dealing with. So we spent lots of quality time with our Ford dealer and their service department. For every 2 months of driving our car spent 1 month in the shop being repaired. Every time we would get it back from the dealership there would be something else missing or wrecked on it. First time they removed this metal sheet under the car that protected the guts and never put it back on or gave it back to us and they would wash our car (usually after finding nothing wrong trying to lessen our wrath) and they would scratch it with their brooms in the process. Again, there is a series of other issues surrounding this, but I have been trying to forget. My husband was 22 at the time and I was 19. I’m sure there was a fair bit of age discrimination in this whole situation and that made it all the more infuriating for me to deal with. What I don’t understand is how stupid the Ford Motor Company, Richport Ford Lincoln and Dam’s Ford Lincoln are, that they would treat us this way. We are the future vehicle purchasers and will indeed purchase many more in our lifetime, but I can absolutely guarantee, we will NEVER buy another Ford again (or any other vehicle under or in association with Ford). I guess my bottom line is this. Most of you reading through these reviews are looking at buying a Focus for yourself. I won’t tell you what to buy or how to run your life, but just CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. everything else I've had nothing but problems with my Focus. Ford not the dealship will try to help me. I had the air compressor and exhaust fixed in the first 4 months of ownership. The transmission has been rebuilt and has to go back again. The exhaust is leaking again. The exhaust has another leak, the gas tank door has a broken latch, a window motor has to be replaced, and the windshield wipers just stop where ever you turn them off. This car is nothing but trouble and a money pit. The brakes have to be replaced again also. |

ABS should be standard at SES trim level like it is on the ST 4-door Great car! Fun to drive, pretty sporty for a non-sports car. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a ton of car for their money. I got mine loaded with moonroof and ABS along with the standard SES package. Similar Products Used: Nissan 240SX SE |

ZX3 Premium
Strength:
Value for money, braking, handling, steering, stereo, headlights, interiors, huge aftermarket for tuning the car
Weakness:
Not as fast/peppy as more current cars, but easliy fixed with a few aftermarket bolt-ons...other than that...none Ok, I already submitted a review on my car earlier this year, but figured I'd add an update. Nothing major has happened to the car. Only replaced a 2nd swaybar link (due to high usage and rough roads where I live now)and one of my foglights is shot because of a bad seal. The car had 44,000km's on it when I bought it Sept 03, and it's got almost 90,000 on it a year later. I've aged the car 2 years in only a year. Still handles awesome, brakes very well, accelerates strongly, and with Sylvania silverstar headlamp bulbs and foglamp bulbs the light on the road is fantastic. Some other reviews on here spoke of tirewear and whatnot and them not being warrantied...of course they aren't people...they are daily wear and tear items just like oil and oil filters and air filters...besides, both the Goodyear Eagle RSA's and Pirelli P6's that come on our cars are known to be cheap commuter car tires that don't last (and are useless in the rain or snow). Spend the money and get good tires like Bridgestone Potenzas like I did. Rain is a non-issue for my ZX3, and they actually grip BETTER as they wear. Besides the swaybar link, nothing bad has gone wrong with my car. Everyone that rides in it thinks the interior is very nice, and the car rides really well and responds well, and that the stereo is awesome (mind you I have 2x 10" subs in the hatch, but the head unit and speakers are all stock still). Most people who knew nothing of My kind of car are now interested in buying one now too after driving in mine. I think that despite the Focus having a rep to some people, there's gotta be some reason why it's the best selling car on the planet...and not just becase they are cheap. I think that the Focus raised the bar for affordable compact cars and the other brands are just starting to catch up now 5 years later. I don't doubt my purchase for an instant.
