cute easy on gas easy to 'sport' up easy to install extras really fun to drive
Weakness:
the back is small...so says my friends...but if you're the driver that dosent matter! I got the focus shortly after my 16th birthday. i have had it for almost two years. My parents bought it used with about 6,000 miles on it. I have really enjoyed my car. we havent had any problems with it. ill be attending college this fall and i have no worries of future problem with my car. it is the base model but cd players and such have been easy to install. i live in the country so my car has had a lot of time on 'rough' roads but it handles fine. i think the focus was a great choose for my first car. it is more powerful than the other small cars that we looked at and of course it has great looks. i have had no problems getting the focus to go in cold weather or with the ac as some of the other have said. Anti lock brakes are not standard It has been my great pleasure to own and drive the Ford Focus wagon for nearly two years. So far at 22,000 miles there have been very few problems, all of which were corrected quickly. At 5,000 miles the service engine light came on due to a faulty sensor, at the same time the rear window defroster was not working. Both fixed. At 15,000 miles the rack and pinion steering had to be replaced. The only indication of problem was low power steering fluid and a low groan when turning. The steering itself was not compromised. This as well was quickly repaired. The milage has averaged about 28 city and about 33 highway with plenty of get up and go. The ride is tight and smooth and the cargo room in the wagon is out standing. I only wish for leather interior! I was a big fan of the Escort having owned two and one Mercury Tracer and I really hated to see them go, however the Focus is superior in every mesuarble way and I look forward to many years with this model. pretty much the whole mechanical part. This car is the biggest piece of garbbage every made. It is a money sucker. I have replaced tires, brakes, drums, headlights, the ignition froze up, and numous other items before 16000 miles. My car now has only 31000 miles and I have just had to replace all the wires, drums and brakes, the CV joint, struts. Not to mention all the recalls. This car has spent more time in the shop then on the road. I am a single mother and bought this car because it was reported to be low maintance, what a joke. And Ford does nothing to stand behind it product. I will never purchase another ford product again. |

Weakness:
Cup holders useless, brake rotors warp quik, 2.0l spi engine needs some more hp,I would op for a zetec Just bought this car recently, it had about 37,000 miles on it. I haven't had any major problems, except for my brakes make a funny noise when I press and let go. I have the 2.0l spi engine which doesn't make much horse power and still managed to out perform my friends Honda Civic DX, it is a good starter car, well maintained it is an overall good car. Oh the cup holders are useless. Overall if your looking for performance the Focus has a strong aftermarket, with a few modifications you could blow the doors off say a stock mustang, and defenitly any Honda Civic!!!!!!!!!!!! very good car to ride in,also nice interior and it gets very good gas mileage, its also a good looking car.
Weakness:
for a new car i am having some big problems that shouldn't be acuring with a new car(power steering, tires, brakes, and turn signals broke, wont cancel after turn has been made.) I bought a 95 escort wagon used, I had some problems with it took it to anthor ford dealer to get it fixed.while i was there I walked into the show room and saw the focus, a sales man came over and I told him the problem I was having with the car I bought the year before. He told me he could get me out of that car that was in the shop getting fixed every month, and get me a new car at a price I could afford which he did do. BUT a couple month after i got the car(2001 FOUCS)the power steering broke ,then the cigertte lighter broke, then I had to get a new set of tires(the tires only had 16000 mile on them) then I noticed a hase on the glass on the head lights, I got a notice for a recall which stated one thing needed to be corrected. and when I got the car back I looked at the receipt which said they had fixed two things and not just one thing as stated in the recall.and now ,while driving down the street I went to stop and the car kept going because the cap that holds the fluid in came off by itself.in my opinion, that is a very bad design I hope nobody has the same thing happen to them.I HOPE FORD REALIZES that this could be a big problem in reguards to the brake fluid cover . NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Love my car! This is the first new car I bought, and I have owned it a little over 3 months, and there has been NO problems!!! I dont know why all the other reviews say there are so many problems with this car, I have found NONE! I was looking for a sporty 2dr car with good gas milage, and saw this car. At first I didnt like the looks, but after looking at it more I changed my mind. The car is surprisingly fast for being a 4 cylnder. Handdles very nice around corners, and looks great with the windows tinted! I would buy another one! |

Weakness:
On May 16th, I left my friend's house to go put gas into my car and head back to base. I went around the curve by his house when the left rear wheel came off the rim and the front brakes locked up again and the car hit a brick mail box. Its going to cost 8,000 dollars to get my car fix just from the exterior damage according to my insurance. I called the Customer Service line 3 other times since May 16th asking about my warranty. I was told at Star Ford that any time my car is sitting on a Ford Dealership lot for any reason other then not making payments Ford was to give me a rental car. It is now May 30th and I am still without a rental car. On May 10th, 2003 I brought a brand new 03 Ford Focus. On May 15th I was heading back to base when my front brakes locked up in the middle of the interstate. I was traveling south on I - 85 in the right lane to take the exit ramp to highway 5 to my friend's house. The car went from the right lane all the way into the median at 55 mphs. I took it to the nearest Ford dealership, Fort Mill Ford, and told them what just happened after I pull over onto the emergency lane to see what happened to my car after I hit the wall dividing the traffic going the other way. My left front wheel and control arm was bent. The service manager there said ain't nothing wrong with your brakes your a 22 year old who dont know how to drive. They said they fixed the problem with in a hour. I had to pay 610.12 to get my vehicle back from the dealership for parts and labor. I said this should be under warranty. They said if you dont want to pay for it get your insurance too. I said no I shouldn't have to get my insurance involved for a Ford mistake. I called the Ford Customer Service line and complained to them. They kept saying we are sorry. I said sorry isn't getting me my money back for my car. On May 16th, I left my friend's house to go put gas into my car and head back to base. I was told at Star Ford that any time my car is sitting on a Ford Dealership lot for any reason other then not making payments Ford was to give me a rental car. It is now May 30th and I am still without a rental car. Ford Corp. called me this morning and said we checked your brakes out and we couldn't find any defects wrong with your brakes. I called the dealership that my car has been sitting on since May 16th they told me all the technician did yesterday is push the brake pedal to make sure my brake lights work, then walked around my car to see if there was any leaks. The dealership said that is why Ford Corp. said we couldn't find any defects. I asked Ford why I am paying 2000 for extended warranty if you all are going to negelect my warranties when ever Ford feels it can. My first car payment is due June 24th. My attorney told me not to make the car payment cause I only had the car in my possession for only 4 days. BooBoo Da Fool South Carolina U.S.A. Chassis dynamics / handling. Fit & finish. Stereo. Reliability.
Weakness:
2.0L 8-valve SOHC engine needs awakening. Non-adjustable steering wheel is at a slightly weird angle. Do yourself a favor and spring for the tilt-wheel. This little car replaced my not-so-reliable 1987 Dodge Dakota. It is a base model with the 8-valve engine, 4-speed automatic, AM / FM cassette player, crank-your-own windows, etc. Basically, it's a "transportation appliance". I have had little trouble in the 20,000 miles I have racked up on it in less than the year I have owned it (and I got it brand new with 40 miles on it). The only problems were a coolant resevoir with an air leak that caused air bubbles in the cooling system and an initially-weak AC. My dealer promptly fixed these problems, and I have been trouble-free for over 10 months now. My old pickup, in contrast, was in the shop every two weeks or so. For an inexpensive little car, this thing handles like it's on rails--and it's not a ZTS or an SVT. I think the ZTS or SVT would've cost me my license a long time ago. I cannot say enough praise for the chassis dynamics of the Focus. This thing makes any schmoe look like an SCCA Autocross Champion. I guess that's why Colin McRae races one in the World Rally series. . . The 8-valve 2.0L 4-cylinder engine could use a few more ponies. The aftermarket is wide-open if you have the 2.0L DOHC 16-valve ZETEC engine, but It seems like you're kinda screwed if you want to soup-up the econo motor. The interior build quality is by far superior to the GM Cavalier / Sunfire twins. All in all, it's obvious that Ford of Europe designed this car--and that's a good thing. If I could do it over, I'd get at least the SE with a few more options. Similar Products Used: 1991 Toyota Camry 1995 Ford Aspire (Ugh!) |
