Strength:

umm, easy to use radio?

Weakness:

too many recalls, poor gas mileage, bad brake system, cheap parts, misaligned frame, faulty wiring, engine difficulties

This is the worst car i've ever encountered......I'm on my 7th set of tires at 60,000 (an alignment with each set), my radio has been replaced twice, my brakes have been completely replaced twice, my wheel bearings have been replaced, my ignition was replaced one time after having to be towed, and low and behold, my focus is sitting in my drive-way needing to be towed for the same problem yet again......the car gets horrible gas mileage, sometimes has brake failure (causing 2 accidents), my lugnuts have been replaced, the car sometimes stalls out for no apparent reason, and is in need of an alternator......STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAR AT ALL COSTS!!!

good gas mileage, "when it is running".. you'll need it for all your trips to the shop.

Weakness:

brakes, engine is weak, too many recalls, tires are crap! or else they wear out too early based on the car performance?!

Imagine your single, 33 year old daughter driving her two children in a brand new 'reliable' ford focus? Is that too much to ask? When I shopped for my first new car, i wanted the simplest of cars. I thought the focus would be just that- simple. I have had the car for just under 3 years. It has 51,000 miles on it. I've been back and forth to the dealer for atleast 9 recalls, possibly more. I had repeated problems with noise coming from the rear tires, they rotated my ties 3 times, before telling me it 'might' be the tires, because they were wearing unevenly (there fault) So I had to get 4 brand new tires, when my old tires had less than 25,000 miles on them! Then I had to had my brakes replaced (rotors and pads) because of the uneven tires, have u ever heard of such a thing? There are problems with severly squeaky door, wipers that make immense noise even after repeated new replacements. Presently I was traveling and my car just died in the middle of the road, in the middle of no where, in the middle of the night! I waited 5 days for the part to come in and I was stranded out of state. I needed a brand new alternator..It goes on and on..this car has proven to be unreliable, and expensive due to all the headaches and reapirs. It has become not only a burden to me and the mechanics but also to my family and friends who have to "bale" me out when I am stranded in the middle of no where with my New dead car!

Strength:

Inexpensive (as long as you have a nice cash flow for maintenance) Mildly attractive Acceptable gas mileage

Weakness:

Poorly built Cheap parts Extremely loud road noise Poor handling Not worth the headache

Average car at best. I strongly suggest you do your homework before you commit to this car. I have had the car for over two years and regret the day I bought the car. The car loses value like nothing I have ever seen before. Horribly designed and build quaility is sub-standard. Although this car is only 2 years old it drives like it is 10 years old even though it only has 25,000 miles on it. I have had a lot of problems with the rear wheels vibrating and making a clomping sound as you drive. This is due to poor quality rear end parts and poorly manufactured wheels. OEM tires are cheap and do not wear very well. Not that OEM tires are ever the best. You have to pay extra for that. There have been to many recalls for me to count and for some reason Ford or the dealership does not like to let me know about them. I have to find out about them by checking the recall notices periodically. I am very disatisfied with Ford and what they have decided to market to the public. I suggest if you can't get out of this price range, you venture over to an import dealership or hold onto your wallet and ride the bus.

poorly made car. many problems with it. a lot of recalls. value depreciates soooo much.

help! I bought my focus used about 6 months ago, and have had it in the shop at least once a month. first day i had it the brake lights stopped working, a week later the horn had to be replaced...month later a seal in the windsheild had to be replaced beacuse my floorboard stayed wet (and now smells like mold) later the gas gauge had to be replaced. newest problem is it doesnt accelerate right sometimes, it takes it a few seconds to actually move(almost got hit today beacuase it was stuck in the road) the brakes are screeching horribly (at 24,000 miles!!) and i need an exaust already. enough is enough!! I bought the extended warranty, thank god, but I do not want to go to the shop every month....(not to mention all the recalls on it)...problem is i may be stuck with it since i havent had it long enough to get anything on trade in. i cant deal with much more...if i get a chance it will be gone in a heartbeat. i had an 89 probe before and it was much more dependable than a 2000? thats crazy. if you do buy a focus...PLEASE make sure you get an extended warranty...or you may need a second job to keep it going.

I love this car!! I was so apprehinsive about getting this car from all of the bad reviews on this web site! I haven't had a bit of trouble out of my Focus. I could not have asked for a better car! I have only had to take the car in for scheduled matinence.

-Manual Trans. -Decent Power -Good stereo in a base model -Handles nice -Plenty of after market performance upgrades -Good Value

Weakness:

-Small ammount of road noise (Didn't notice it until about 75+mph) -Could use disc brakes in back too -Small back seat (Doesn't bother me since I'm the driver)

I just purchased the car two days ago, and I am already extremely pleased with it. I've already driven it over 100 miles. It handles extremely well and has adequate power. This is my first new car and I decided to get the Focus after looking at many reviews and going on a greuling test drive. I got the 5-Speed manual transmission and am pleased with the performance. It is a very nice car to drive and i hope to continue the good experience.

I am still alive after driving this car for two years. Other than that not a one at all.

Weakness:

brakes, design, engine, windows, transmission ....whatever you can name I'm sure it has been or will break before I Own this car outright.

This was my first new car. After this experince I don't believe that I will ever own another Ford. Not even if I was paid to take it. To start with I had problems with the motors that operate the windows. I have had two replaced. After about a year of driving my new car I needed new brakes at 18000 miles. I was also told that I would have to replace them just as often due to the way the car was designed. I have also had to have all four tires replaced on my car that wasn't even a year old at the time. I took my car in for engine problems. The car wasn't accelerating right. At first they could find nothing wrong. After two more attempts with the smae complaint they found out that my engine needed to be replaced. My car was a year old at this point. Within 4 months I needed a new transmission. I am a college student not a walking ATM. I have been throug two rdaio/c.d. palyers because it will turn itself off when it wants for no apparent reason. However I am continously told that my car is just an average Focus. If this is what you call average for a car that you are selling you may want to rethink what it is you are selling to the unsuspecting consumer.

Well...I'm about to take my Focus into the shop, AGAIN! I purchased this car 2 yrs ago, used with 18,300 miles on it. I learned to drive on it, waaaay easier than a big ole honkin car. However, this is not the car for a poor college student. I've had at least 4 recalls, had to have the cowl(?)..whatever you call the area on the hood just below the windshield, replaced because it leaked water into the passenger floorboard. I've also had to have the altenator replaced, door locks have started to make some squeeky noises occasionally when I try to lock them from the inside, a transmission fluid leak and I've had crappy service from the dealership. I can also agree with the brakedust problem. No matter what it just seems to build up like no other...also was told by dealer to have brakes replaced at just 38,000 miles. *sigh* Words of wisdom kids, be sure to check you alignment often on this car, be sure to have a nice lump in the savings account and never buy from ford. Next car is def. going to be a toyota or a honda.

Ok im 15 getting my first car and my dad pulls up in a new 03 focus. Right off the back i see the decals on it, whick i think is cool. Than i get in the car and its very VERy roomy with a lot of trunk room. Ok so i have my permit and i take it out of the driveway for the frist time and its a 5-speed manual. Seems to have no power when i was in the neighborhood, i get out to the road and i reved it up and boy was i suprised. For 130 HP this thing took off, part of the reason was because of the light weight. So i love my car so far i cant complain except for the base, i fixed that quickly by putting a 10" MTX sub.....check my out at (http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=393334&cat=15&val=1)

Stock Handling, Torque, Comfort, Reliability, Modibility, looks.

Weakness:

feels a bit top heavy on stock springs at times.

First and foremost, I write this review with the sporty / aggressive driver in mind. This car is the perfect basis for anyone willing to have a comfortable ride, plenty of space, and an aggressive sporty edge to their everyday driving experience. The 2.0l DOHC motor is extremely restrictive from the factory, making it extremely easy to free up a great deal of horsepower through your basic modifications. Though the initial 130 HP range from the stock motor will still have you passing most of the highway without any problems. In regards to reliability, the earlier 2000 models had their share of problems, including engine fires, suspension problems, and ignition troubles. The good news is that these problems were fixed come 2001, and my car has been a flawless mode of transportation for 2 years now. Granted it's a hatchback, most will comment on how roomy the interior is, and seat comfort is also a considerable plus.
