Strength:

Room, power, looks, price.

Weakness:

Poor workmanship, too many problems for being a new vehicle

I always wanted a roomy vehicle but was not interested in a minivan/SUV. I decided to purchase this Crown Victoria for the room, looks, and price. I am very dissapointed at the quality of the workmanship of this vehicle. two weeks after purchasing this "new" vehicle I found 3 inches of water inside my trunk, took it to the dealer and they fixed the problem (the seal on the rear window). The wiper blades are terrble they make a rubbing noise everytime they are a delay mode during light rain. The sequence on the wiper motors is also not working properly. (I have to take it back to the dealer for these two problems). I keep noticing a strange sound every time I go over a big bump, I dont know if this is a new problem with one of the shocks. So far I had the vehicle for 8 months and thank god I have not had any major engine problems. I don''t know if the money I saved is worth the aggrevation of dealing with all of these nuissance problems. I''m curious to know from other Crown Victoria owners if they had similar problems. This vehicle is very comfortable on the highway and the room is more than enough for my two kids.

Strength:

ROOMY, FAST, RELIABLE,VERSATILITY,EASY TO MAINTAIN,INTIMIDATING,SAFE ,NOTHING CAN BEAT THIS CAR AND I RECOMEND FORD CROWN VICTORIAS OF ANY YEAR, BUT IF YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON AN OLD POLICE PACKAGE ONE, ITS EVEN BETTER,

Weakness:

NONE

MY BROTHE RHAD A 89'''' CROWN VIC WITH A 351 WINDSOR, I LOVED IT,,AND I KNEW THATS THE KIND OF CAR I WANTED TO GET, SO WEN I GOT MY LISENCE, I STARTED MY HUNT,,THEN IN THE SUMMER OF 2000. MY BROTHER, WHO WORKED AT A FORD DEALER AT THE TIME AS A MECHANIC, CAME HOME ONE DAY AND TOLD ME ABOUT A 91'''' POLICE PACKAGE THAT JUST GOT TRADED IN FROM AN OLD LADY THAT WAS A TOWN WORKER, IT HAD 130,000 MILES, AND LOOKED A LITTLE ROUGH, BUT I TOOK IT FOR A RIDE AND IT WASNT SO BAD,,JUST NEEDED A LITTLE TLC.AND MY BROTHER SAID IT WASNT TO BAD, ALL IT NEEDED WAS BRAKE PADS. I BOUGHT IT, CLEANED IT UP, TURNED THE WHITE WALL TIRES AROUND TO MAKE IT LOOK BETTER. IT WAS GREAT, NO REGRETS, AND ALL I PAID FOR IT WAS $500 WITH $136 IN PARTS, I DORVE IT EVERY WHERE AND NEVER GAVE ME A PROBLEM,IT WAS SO FAST AND THE RIDE WAS GREAT.I OWNED IT FOR 3 MONTHS,,,,UNTIL I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK. A SCHOOL BUS RAN A STOP SIGN, AND BEAT UP MY CAR PRETTY GOOD, IT WAS TOTALLED, THE ENTIRE PASSENGERS SIDE FROM HEADLIGHT TO TAIL LIGHT WAS SMASHED IN, I WAS OK, BUT I KNOW I OWE THAT TO MY CAR.IT WAS SO TOUGH.MY HEART WAS BROKEN,,,I EVEN COULD DRIVE IT HOME AFTER THE ACCIDENT HOME. HOW ABOUT THAT FOR TOUGHNESS AND RELIABILITY.SO I AM LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE, I KNOW I WILL NEVER BUY ANY OTHER KIND OF CAR.

Strength:

200 Horsepower 4.6L engine that gets 27 mpg on the highway. Enough room for the whole family and a couple of friends. 20.5 cubic feet of trunk space (humongous).

Weakness:

I''ve replaced 5 window motors in a car that only has 4 windows. The plastic intake manifold cracked at 81,000 miles and could have destroyed my engine if I were not parked when it happened. All of the coolant was lost in a matter of seconds. Ford has redesigned the intake manifold to be part aluminum and part plastic. They have an open recall on some Crown Vics, Some Town Cars, Some Mustangs, Cougars and Thunderbirds. They will not extend that recall to Grand Marquis even though the point of failure is identical and the engine and parts used are identical to the cars they have recalled. DO NOT buy a Ford product with a 4.6L engine that has a completely plastic intake manifold. The repair bill when it fails, and it will fail, is a MINIMUM of $600. Double that if you go to a Ford Dealership

I bought the car with 20,000 miles on it. All in all it has been pretty decent and has required little maintenance. That is an important factor because my experience with Ford Dealerships has shown that the knowledge of their mechanics is very minimal at best. They replaced my drive shaft to correct a rear end shimmy when all it needed was a transmission flush.

Strength:

Great car! This car has the ride of the old full-size Mopars, but handles and corners like a little Dart or Valiant. My first impression when test-driving was of driving a ''74 Valiant Brougham with a 318; great power, quick off of the line especially, a nimble handler, but a ride quality that only a Fury or Monaco could give. I call it the reincarnation of the Valiant Brougham/Dart SE, but with all of the weak points gone! The Crown Vic/Grand Marc took the good old sixties and seventies cars, fixed all of their negatives like fussy carburetors, wind noise, and horrible gas mileage, but retained the handsome looks, ballsy v8 power, comfortable driving position, and truck-like solidity to make a damn near perfect ride! I get 20 mpg, but still burn rubber, and leave the rice-burners in the rear-view mirror. If you like comfort, peformance, durability, and a car you can work on, but would like to have some of that illusive gas mileage which you thought required a crappy v6, this car is for you!

Weakness:

1)Wish more had been sold with a 351 WIndsor, and that the Windsor had been given port injection. Seeing what injection did for the 302, the thought of what it would have done for the Windsor is delicious! 2) Test-drove a ''96, and it''s not the same. 4.6 feels like a v6 off of the line. Had some balls in the top end, but just didn''t feel or sound like a real v8. Hopefully, Ford''ll replace the ''92 and later body with a more square-cut body again soon, and give this car back some real v8s, like the injected 351 they put in the Lightning pickup. Better yet, offer a good old fashioned 460 with injection as an option!

Great car! I''m a die-hard old car person; own a ''69 Chrysler with a 440 and a ''73 Merc Comet with a 302.Used to own a ''76 Dodge Monaco, and once had a ''76 Merc Monarch with the 351. Traded the ''76 Monaco+1 grand cash for the Marquis.

Strength:

The car is heavy duty. I can speed over dirt roads and I pull a 3,800-lb. boat with ease. I feel safe in the car. it gets 22-31mpg. Very solid. Always starts. Strong powerful engine and durable suspension.Solid thick parts all over the car.It holds up to any kind of driving.Very safe. I have done things to it that would have done thousnads of dollars of damage to a FWD, like running off the road over sidewalks and over rocks.Never hurt it at all.Just had it pulled out.No suspension damage.

Weakness:

At 130,000miles+- it started using some oil. It does not smoke.I have seen a lot of crown vic/Grand Marquis/Thunderbirds/Cougars/F-150/Mustangs with the 4.6 v-8 smoke blue smoke. Mine does not do that yet. Power window motor went out on front right door. Drivning on a ruff road at high speeds it kind of bounces around on the road. The car is too small-needs more head room and rear seat room. Odd for such a big car the o.k. amount of room. A 1993-1996 Caprice has more room, but a smaller trunk.Plastic head lamps fade out and glaze over with a yellow haze.Loss of resale value real fast.Poor traction on ice and snow. The car feels heavy in sharp truns, but takes off fast.

The crown vic or grand marquis is the best new car value on the road.Excellent cars. Safe, heavy duty, solid,$23,000 for a fully loaded one.A best buy. I got the car used in 1997 with 35,000-miles on it...Today it has 160,000-miles on it.It is a GL and dark green. It is basically the same as a 2002-(Same Engine-trans)Very solid..Heavy duty car.Safe..I got hit by a new 1997 Honda Civic I was not hurt, she was almost killed. My car had $6,500 of damage, her''s was a total loss. The heavy duty frame of my car just pushed right through her car.The police officer even drove my car into the parking lot. Her car was almost cut in half. The safest car on the road otherthen a huge SUV or truck or an $100,000 5,400-lbs.mercedes.

Great power great gas mileage added power with K&N filter make the MAF handle more air I won''t mess with the Exhaust because you have a life time set up now with only very small cats and muffs and it is all in stainless steel can''t beat that.

Weakness:

Benches and window motors

Great car as you all know. Some things that might help,EGR most allways is not the valve but the passage ways get cloged with carbon and you have to take the intake elbow off and clean out the passage way. This will cost you only time and if you have any experince very little time.

Its long roof is long enough for someone to lie on top of it and go car surfing. Don''t need to worry about floods.

Weakness:

The car itself looks like something rejected by a junkyard bum.

When I first drove it with its new 5.0L V8, I enjoyed the speed but it quickly realized it was the biggest POS I''ve ever driven. The size alone received the name "The Boat" by my friends. The gas milage sucks; gobbling a galon per 7 miles. No, I''m not joking. It''s approximately the lenth of two normal size cars. My friends hide their face in embarassement when we go anywhere. The interior is as crappy as the outside. Stay away from these "cars"

Door paneling flimsy, intake manifold needed replaced at 84k. Look for After Warranty Assistance if this happens to you.

All my family has crown vics, so I new they were a reliable vehicle. You can''t beat there value for the price. As my brother said, just look at what the mechanics are driving who work at the Ford dealership and it will be Crown Vics.
