Everything, including the ugly eggplant color of the car.... This car is the worst purchase I have ever made. There have been SO many problems with it. I've purchased vehicles with 5 times its mileage and had better use of them. Everything on this car is cheap, unreliable and unexplainable. I literally cry having to get into it in the morning. Luckily, I don't have to drive it right now because it is sitting in the driveway in need of a brand new transmission, timing belt, radiator, brake pads, torque converter and miscellaneous other engine needs. The interior is a joke. They might as well not even put in what they call 'features'... Such as the cup holder in the middle that is a little O Ring that you slide out of the middle and pop up. Can't tell you how many times I have had to grab my drink to avoid a spilling disaster. The latches to the seatbelts in the backseat have all broken, making it harder to strap my daughter's carseat in.... The interior carpet, which I have shampooed and vaccuumed the entire time I've had it, is curling up at the edges and it is stiff and can't be fixed unless I re-upholster the entire carpet of the car. The gas tank button to the left of my seat does not work, so in order to get gas, I have to pop the trunk and pull a little plastic tab to the right of the trunk to pop it open. The ashtray, which I don't use as I don't smoke, came completely unhinged and some spring that held it in was broken as well. The AC is a joke. I may as well just carry a spray bottle full of chilled water just to stay cool. The rear view mirror is barely hanging on. There are so many things wrong with this car. Those are just the interior problems. Two days after I purchased the car, it had to be brought back because the brakes weren't working. Ken Grody Ford, which specializes in the sale of lemons, guaranteed me the car was in better than perfect shape. I also requested an extra key and floormats and it was also included in my contract... Never received those, even after several calls to the finance man and general manager. Shortly after the brakes were supposedly fixed, I would be driving and the car would just shut off. Steering wheel would lock up and I'd have to hope there was a space open on the right or left I could coast to. I would start it back up and the same thing would happen every other week or so. When it was taken into a Ford dealership to be checked out, they were 'baffled as to why that was happening, as it was in PERFECT condition'.... Please. Pretty soon, the car would start shaking as I slowly applied pressure to the brakes. That became a bigger problem and again when taken in for new brakes, 'they weren't needed'. Finally, as I dropped my daughter off to school, luckily I was in her parking lot, the car just died. Literally just died. It would go in reverse, but in any other gear it would not move forward. It was like revving in neutral. Had it towed to a repair shop, where I was told it needed a MAJOR overhaul. Even with my records of tune-ups and such, still needed and overhaul. So now, my 'ever so dependable' Contour sits in my driveway with $5000 of repairs neeeded. And I'm still stuck making payments on the POS... Thank you Ford. Thank you for providing such wonderful quality vehicles and especially for having enough tact to hire the idiots you have chosen to sell your less than horrible cars. I will never buy a FORD again. Chevy, Toyota, and Honda are the way to go. They have all been wonderful vehicles that seem to keep on going and going with minimal repairs needed. What I thought was a sensible purchase for my family to transport my small child around in turned out to be a costly $20K mistake... Right on! If there was an option below for NO stars, I would have chosen that. Similar Products Used: None and never will |

if you treat it right, not a single thing. my car is awesome. almost 225,000 miles and still going strong. the manual transaxle had to be replaced at 200,000 miles, but what car doesnt have to have major repairs at one point in its life? My car still has ORIGINAL (as in put on at the factory and never needed replaced): -Exhaust system,(muffler, catalytic converter) from the header back. -Suspension. -Brake Rotors and drums -engine -CLUTCH (yes the tranny went before the clutch did...these clutches are VERY strong) -Alternator -A/C compressor -CUPHOLDER!!! -ignition coil things that have broken: -headrests on the back of the front seats -assorted interior bulbs blew out..comes with the territory of owning a car. -timing belt at 200K (its a non interference engine, so i slapped a new one on and had it timed...it was ready to go again!) -Feul door release (interior) -Left rear wheel bearing at 150K -interior window crank handles (my fault) Similar Products Used: none, havent needed another car |

Great power. Fairly reliable. The usual stiff suspension, not a smooth ride of course but excellent for road control.
Weakness:
Cost of parts are incredible. Extremely poor transmission. Have read and heard alot of complaints about the tansmission. Very costly too! Have been told it would cost $3000 CDN to replace it(or rebuild). It has quite a bit of road noise though. Great car, the only downfall is the price of parts and the availability of the same. Have not had any major problems other than expected maintenance costs. Catalyitic converter, cost $500. Except now the transmission is shifting very hard out of first after driving 30 miles or so, or slipping. Have had maintenance done but it has not been resolved. None just owner abuse I don't know what is wrong with everyone elses cars, but I have not had any problems with mine. She even has 110,807 miles on her right now. Half of the stuff that everyone else has wrong with their cars are user problems NOT MANUFACTURE problems. For example: Brakes and Rotors Windows The interior stuff that is falling apart Tires Suspension Shaking of car Cup holder causing car crashes Maybe some of you people should take care of your cars insted of beating them to pieces. Try naming your car it may like you more and not cause you problems. Mine is named Gracie. Similar Products Used: No need for other products |

see summary also the interior seems to be falling apart...my rearview mirror has fallen off a panel under the steering whell has fallen off and the whole car vibrateswhen driving faster then 40 mph When i got the car in 2002 it had 85000 miles on it and it was my first car and i was all excited and happy.the car looked nice and i had plenty of room, though not much for people in the back. the car would accelerate great and would get good gas mileage. However after the first two months of owning it my O2 sensor went out, and that is where all my problems started with this car, since then i have had to get new brake pads/rotors, new front bearings which was expensive for me, my alternater is starting to die, and there is a strange burning smell(possible from the alternater?),oh and also the cupholder has almost caused 3 crashes cause the cup would tip over cause the thing can only hold like a can of pop, nothing bigger. The car has good acceleration and handling, look great.
Weakness:
Poor reliablily and overall quality. Ride, noisy. I have had many Ford cars over the past 20 yrs. But this one is the one that has me looking for another car maker. It has had at least 8 recalls that have been done. I bought it new and I have 82,000 miles on it. In the first 40,000 miles I had to replace the starter, water pump, battery, alternator, 5 sensors, the brakes, fix the transmition, tires (wish Ford would have stopped using Firestone years ago!} these are the major things. The driver side seat has always made a lot of noise, I brought it in when it was new and they said that is the way the seat was designed with plastic roller that are noisy, and they could not do anything about it, to contact Ford and ask them to redesign it. So we have had to put up with a noisy seat for the past 82000 miles! The car has good acceleration and handling, look great. But has a lot of road noise. And a poor ride. I bought the best extended warranty when we bought the car, and have used it more that it costs. Similar Products Used: T-birds,LTD, Towncar, |

The first year only, turn corners well, not any more.
Weakness:
Just about everything from workmanship, to parts to mechanic to everything! I had a total of five recall, bought it at a year old. I have also paid additional costs eight times because the ABS fuse kept blowing when breaking during winter, causing heater and blower not to work. Had rotars and brakes completed, serpentine belt, manifold, and a few other monor problems. I have babied this vehicle getting all oil lube filters doen when required, even washed and vacuumed this one regularily. Now I am told that there are numerous problems with ABS and after $54+ each time (x8) I will now be disconnecting the ABS on advise of my mechanic. Ford refuses to recall although many people are having the exact problem. I am very dissatisfied with this vehicle, Ford mechanics who continue to charge for the poor workmanship of their fellow employees. I will never buy another FORD.
