Strength:

It doesn't have any!

Weakness:

Everything. The entire build of this car is cheap and not worth the money you will spend on it. If you want to keep your car in the shop then buy this car.

I would have to say this car is awful! I have only had it for one year and just about everything on the car is messing up. It runs really rough, there are sounds in the dashboard, the brakes aren't too hot and the heat sensor totally went out at 40,000 miles. My mechanic says this was a manufacture problem. When I took this up with Ford, they said too bad because the car JUST went out of warranty and stupid me didn't buy extended warranty! This car is terrible!

Strength:

Good brakes, sufficient power, nice front seats. Steering is precise with good turning radius. Comfortable to drive.

Weakness:

cramped back seats, weak A/C. I find it difficult to get reasonable-sized packages into the trunk due the low clearance of the opening. Starter slips sometimes - I've heard that this is a known issue. Cup holders are essentially useless.

I've put 109K miles on my car in the nearly five years I've owned it. I would say that it has been relatively trouble free - I've spent maybe less than $500 on non-maintenance related repairs (voltage regulator on power windows went out on me). There have been some issues - high pitch squeal from the A/C belt/clutch area (the Car Talk guys call it the 'Ford Singing Syndrome'). Less acceration than I was accustomed to, but my previous car was an ex-police car with a 5.0L HO. The starter slips up occasionally, but all I have to do is try again and it usually starts up.
While there still isn't really wrong with the car right now, I'm finding that the gas mileage has fallen off in the last year or two (used to be 31MPG, now around 24) though that is quite likely due to the worsening of the traffic in Atlanta. I'm starting to look at getting another car, with the prime candidate being a 2001 Maxima SE - more room in the back seat being one of the big reasons.

Strength:

the mileage that you get. sporty look.

Weakness:

The carpet is coming away from the walls, the engine is way to loud, the heat when out on it last yr. which had a recall, brakes seem like they when way to fast, the radio upon putting it on and changing stations, the volume will go up without you pushing the button to have it do so or it will change radio stations by itself when you are turning the volume up.
I only have 59,000 miles on it, and it seems that we are always checking out things that need to be fixed with it.

I would not buy this car, because it has lots of noise, cheaply builted, not worth the money that you pay for it.
I find that I would have rathered stayed with any of the other vehicles that I have owned even with all of the recalls that I had with my villager.Give yourself a break and stay away from this car. Also I don't care for the back seats there really isn't that much room, with two kids in the back, I find that I don't have really much room for a third person.

Strength:

Power, looks, handling

Weakness:

Atrociously poor gas milege

Not recommend it based on Ford's unwillingness to fix the bad mileage. 14-19 mpg is way under most Contour owners get, but Ford's attitude all along has been "Tough -- our computer says nothing's wrong so we ain't even gonna try to fix nothin'."

Well, except for the bad mileage.

Strength:

This car has plenty of pick-up, yet gets decent milage (20-29 MPG). Seats provide good support for people with long legs. Plenty of heat or A/C as needed. No blind spots. Back seat isn't too bad.

Weakness:

A/C failed at 18 months. Covered fully under warrenty. Wish I could put a locking gas cap on the car. Fair amount of interior road noise.

I've had the car almost 2 years, but have only put 16,000 miles on it. It's been very dependable. I had the car customized so the rear seat folds down. Now I can carry 8 foot lumber without a problem. I really wanted a pick-up, but couldn't find one in which the driver seat felt comfortable for me. No use buying a car (or truck) that doesn't have a comfortable seat. This car can cruise at 90 mph and you don't feel like you're going that fast. Goes up the Sierra mountain roads without a loss of speed. Reading the above reviews, I worry about the long term, but for now I'm very happy.

Last car was a Nissan Stanza which I loved, but it was getting old. Went to the auto show, and the Contour was the only car that felt good just sitting in.

Ford needs a grip on quality control
tire and pavement howl.

i would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for excellent handling, decent power with v6. expect a trip or two to the dealer every year. buy with extended warranty and be sure to read the fine print.
i usually get tired of a car within 6 months of ownership, but this car is a blast and worth the risk of some trips to the dealer. it needs some soundproofing. especially under the rear seat and trunk. i'm told that will make a world of difference with the road noise and i intend to do just that this comming spring.

Great engine, good looks

Weakness:

paint, brakes, cupholders, rear seat, dealership experiences

Have just had a major run in with Ford over the brake system. The brakes(all 4 wheels)locked up without warning and almost got me killed on I-40.
Vehicle has 30,650 miles, but alas, the warranty was 3 months expired! The service department promised to have repairs made under warranty, but two weeks later, they called and said my car was ready for 2389.00!!!! The hydraulic system controller went out, causing the brakes to lock up and blow the master cylinder, brake booster, etc. They replaced every thing but the brake pedal! Finally got Ford to pay 750.00 toward the repairs, (they call it customer loyalty money), the service manager finally agreed to pay 789.00 after getting all pissed off that I was ruining his plans to leave early for the day(offered to come back on monday to discuss, but he said let's just get it over with!!!), so I am left with a 700.00 bill to the dealer, and 80.00 to the towing service. I am currently looking for a new non-Ford vehicle! Oh, one last parting shot....after the service advisor found out it wouldn't be covered under warranty, he just forgot to call and ask for permission to go ahead with this major 2389.00 undertaking, and proceeded to tell me about all of the messages he left on my machine to let me know what they were doing. Funny thing is, I don't have an answering machine!!!!! This car is a great concept that just wasn't the quality it should have been. The Stereo is just sad, and the trim on the trunk and the rubber on the rear window sills just can't seem to stay in place. Those of you who have not had experinces like this, be thankful....I loved this car when I got it, but now just can't wait to get rid of it!!!!!!!

- Front Wheel Drive instead of AWD
- Small aftermarket support

Most of the car doesn't have problem some people seems to have. I must admit though from reading on the contour.org forum that a small percentage of Contours have great deal of problem, but most of the cars don't have problem. This car got the name "Poor Man's BMW" for a reason: it IS like a BMW 3 series. It out powers, out accelerates, and out handles all those Civics with huge fart cans! This is a car that I will definitely buy again if I go back in time, even if the price is higher! Other people think I'm nuts? Keep it that way, especially for those who are cops! I really don't want anyone to think the Contour is a great sport car because I don't want more tickets!

Oh and by the way, the 95 SE V6 MTX is the cloest to the SVT because it got the best components (especially the springs). Too bad America house mostly lazy coach-potatoes who like comfort more than performance!
