Contour SE
Strength:
My blue beauty has LOT'S of power for 170 hp! The Contour SE has a HUGE trunk with tons of room for a cross-country trip. The sound system is nice if equipped with a CD player. Has awesome looks inside and out, the 1995 SVT wannabe.
Weakness:
Gas mileage isn't that well, noisy if going over 65mph or more. The back seats has horrible leg room, not ment for a tall person (like me). The ABS isn't so wonderful but is better than the standard braking features. I love my car to death!!! It's sporty, fast, attractive, fun to drive and turns heads. I can't imagine my car without a spolier, so I highly reccomend you get one, it really makes the car HOT! The Duratec V-6, 170HP is awesome and has no problem going on a freeway. The ABS brakes are ok, not as good as I thought they would be but good enough to please a person like me. I live near San Francisco and ABS helps ALOT on those hills, so I do recommend it...but not as good as I thought they would be. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord-Not nearly as sporty as the Contour. Nissan Maxima- HAHA...it's a Nissan, are you kidding? Dodge Stratus- Dodge engines are horrible and unreliable! |

SE V6 + 5SPD manual
Strength:
A fun handling, nimble car. Good looks. Great handling a 5 speed with a 6 cylinder. More than adequate performance. good stopping power
Weakness:
MANY MANY RECALLS. I have had great fun driving this vehicle. But have been annoyed by the problems that I have experienced. Similar Products Used: Moved from Honda Civic LX to Contour. First car that made me want to change. Test drove most V6 5SPD available and a number of 4 cylinders. This won the comparison for me. Mazda 626. Honda Accord. Camry. Monte Carlo. Lumina. Well it has grown on me, at first I didn't like it, but its a fun ride and a 5 speed. Great gas milage and good stearing and suspension. Most everything. I haven't had too many problems with it.
Weakness:
*Passenger side door lock seems to jam up when cold. POWER LOCKS Go out and by a V6 Contour, but reveiw its history first. And secondly, get premium wheels. Similar Products Used: Honda Civic, but beats it. All the other mid-sized sedans |

Very nice looking, spacious trunk.
Weakness:
REPAIRS. I have put SO much money into this car. I owned my 1991 Geo Metro for 4 years and didn't spend 1/8 of the money on that than I have on this F O R D! I thought my Neon was lemon, boy was I wrong! I would not recommend this car to my WORST enemy. Ford really doesn't even care enough about their reputation(which isn't much) to fix these recurring problems!! Similar Products Used: Geo Metro and Honda Accord and Dodge Neon |

Contour SE
Strength:
Performance and handling. A poor-man's BMW. I also find that the drop-down rear seat is convenient.
Weakness:
Pollution sensors (the CE light coming on is a common problem with Contours.) Fixed it once by changing the PCV and EGR valve but needed the dealer for a new O2 sensor. I am currently experiencing a problem with the shift's reverse lock-out ring vibrating at 2900 RPMs. Also had the sticking gas door. A little oil took care of that. I bought the car new based on the glowing reviews of the SE with 5 speed and on the whole I've gotten my money's worth. I'm putting my kids in the back (so the lack of rear seat room isn't an issue) and still have a car that is a hoot to drive. It handles like no other four door in it's price range and the acceleration is more than sufficient for life in the suburbs. The car hasn't been trouble free (see above), but five years and 50000 miles later it has spent very little time in the shop. I got it with the leather interior and power everything and find it is very comfortable both driving around town and on long trips. I intend to keep it running as long as I can because I see no other moderately priced family car/commuter that is also this much fun. Similar Products Used: 90 Taurus, 72 Torino, 74 Capri. |

Strength:
-excellent pick up
Weakness:
-didn't come with a deck Overall the Ford Contour has been a very dependable car. Much better than the Subaru. The real disapointment has been the recalls and computer chips. The reacalls were the company's fault and cost so I can't complain too much there. As well as with the computer chips, the car was 6 yrs. old, it was only a matter of time before they needed replaced, too bad it couldn't have been with the previous owner. gas mileage(30mpg)
Weakness:
visability I would recomend this product highly to anyone who does alot of traveling. I put about 35 to 40 thousand miles on my car a year, and I have owned it for two years now. It handles real well on the ice and snow. I just had my first problem with it today. The alternator went out. If these are the only type of problems I am going to have with my car,Ill be keeping it a long time. I would recomend this car as an all around good car for anyone who wants a good, dependable car. Strength:
Engine performance, handling, outstanding acceleration, roomy for a large person, subdued styling, everything included (leather, power moonroof, CD stereo)
Weakness:
Small back seat, Radio controls, 'Premium' sound system not so premium, 91 octane fuel. This car came out on top when I searched for an affordable 6-cyl 5-spd that I could fit into (I'm 6'3"). It handles very well and has a lot of power. Passing on a steep upgrade with the A/C on max is no problem. The gas mileage is acceptable, but, the engine requires 91 octane. It's a great deal of fun to drive, and is thousands less than the other cars I considered (Nissan Maxima, VW Passat, Subaru Forester). My total price includes $3000 for an extended warranty, DRLs, and passive anti-theft system. Since the car comes with nearly everything included (the only option I had was for an ashtray), it's a great value. Those who live in the snow belt will need to use different wheels and tires, as the stock wheels don't accept chains and the stock tires are z-rated. They were no problem on wet pavement, though. Very little backseat room, but great for two large people up front. Overall, a great little stealth 'sports' car, for a lot less than comparable models. |
