Strength:

Excellent high tech motor and suspension for an economy car > 1hp/cu.in. Very good used pricing. Much better heat than past 4 cyls. Great long distance commuter car. Parts available in rural USA

Weakness:

Taillights leak Small gas tank Headlights need to be buffed with rubbing compound twice a year to be good as new. Left arm a little cramped.

Great car for me, Buy one in good shape when it's fully depreciated, the second 100k miles are extremely cheap, even if you have to replace a head gasket or transmission. I can do the work myself. Fixed the AC permanantly with larger O rings and silicone. From reading the reviews, you should be complaining about the repair criminals rather than the car. But please, keep fixing everything, then selling them cheap!

Strength:

Looks good, decent mileage, handles well.

Weakness:

I think ive spent more repairing it since 97 than i paid for it originally.

Where do i begin? Well, i had my car for 8 months and the head gasket went, i have had numerous oil leaks in to spark plugs and wiring. Last winter the control box for the headlights had all the wires melt inside it for the bargain price of $250, wind noise.. Theres just so much to list. The dealer cant seem to find a permanent mystery whistling coming from the rear wheels so for 3 months i have had to deal with it cuz thers nothing wrong, i put oil in it every 3 weeks, but apparently "its not leaking". Will never recommend it to anyone.

Strength:

the gas mileage is probably the number one strength the only problem is if you drive over 65mph then it likes to guzzle it has plenty of interior space for such a small car (my dad can fit and he's 6'7") the trunk is huge and that's benefitted me a lot stock sound system rocked until about a month ago

Weakness:

let's see 1 new brakes after 1 yr now they are shrieking again 2 problem with oil system (dealer says i am on crack) 3 transmission is getting sluggish started between 2nd and 3rd and now it's all over 4 paint is not doing so great 5 right sub is fuzzy now 6 i payed way too much for this pos do yourself a favor and don't buy this car

when i got this car it was becaue my parents didn't trust me with the lincoln mark 8 can't imagine why it's been a decent car and is probably a good FIRST car but i wouldn't really recommend anyone buying it it seems to me it's a lemon but i can't prove anything it looks cute and handles decent

Strength:

Performance, economy, comfort, and style are all great! I am not a small guy and I fit well inside. I am also very impressed with the 132HP SOHC four, it has more horsepower than I ever expected.

Weakness:

I can't gripe...I guess one of the mainfold bolts came loose twice???

I was a bit hesitant when I bought my neon, I had read the reviews but Dodge has never let me down before. I bought the car and immediately fell in love with it! The gas mileage, performance, and design is absolutely awesome! I have had ZERO problems! I would also like to comment this is not a granny car, I use it! I have managed to plant a Civic, Thunderbird, S10, cavalier, and talon with my little 2.0 SOHC. I love the car!

Strength:

Gas mileage is decent (though the tank is really small so I still have to fill up a lot...go figure) it's comfortable enough, I guess... Nice loud horn, which comes in handy when an SUV cuts me off

Weakness:

The rear is so high that I have a hard time seeing when I'm backing up See above Sometimes it just randomly decides not to start, I give it a few minutes, and it starts The brakes sqeak a lot, although they passed state inspection Whoever built this car didn't know what they were doing. The air filter is in some weird place and Wal-Mart can't check it, I have to take it to an expensive oil change place to have it checked. There's a lot of things on it done weirdly like that.

I would not wish this car on anyone. I am a 20 year old college student, and my grandmother bought the Neon for me about sixteen months ago with 50K miles. Since then I have spent more money than I could have imagined on it, and from what I've heard my problems haven't been as bad as a lot of other people's. Three weeks after I got it, the starter broke and it cost almost $400 for a new one. Since then, besides normal maintenance, I've had to replace the battery, replace the brake pads ($90), have the passenger side front strut replaced ($250), fix an oil leak ($130, and I now have another oil leak that's supposed to cost about $500), replace a hose that makes the AC work ($75), replace the battery cable ($80) and the radio broke. It's true that these repairs overall haven't been as expensive as they could've been, but considering this is supposed to be an economy car, and I'm sure nobody who buys a Neon is rich, it adds up to a lot. I feel like I see my mechanic more often than I see my boyfriend. Someone once said the only way a Neon would ever see ten years is if it spends it inside a garage...they were right.

Before I got this car, I had an 88 Oldsmobile Cutlass and I'd rather have that back. It's pretty sad if I'd rather have a 15-year-old Oldsmobile than a Neon.

Fun to drive. Availability of parts. Car has more then enough power to do what ever you could expect it to.

Weakness:

head gasket. transaxle

Although I have spent a whack load of cash on this car. I like it. The head gasket blew, and the a/c went. And I have a weird noise in the transaxle. the rest of the problems have all been expected maintainence.

great gas mileage tons of room my loud dual exhaust my custom air intake still love the original neon look

Weakness:

umm can't think of any right now

For only the short time that I've had this car I've only had to replace the headlights. I bought it with 101k miles on it [for $2k] so yeah the headlights were foggy but the new ones only costed $166 [including shipping] Practically nothing is stock so that might be why it runs better than most others. The brakes do squeak just a TINY amount when it pours [but apparently all new brakes do]. I also had to replace the front motor mount which was only $45. But now..whenever i accelerate quickly [aka stomping on the gas] it makes a spuddering sound ..its kinda like multiple backfires. my dad thinks it could be the spark plugs [they might be wet] or the catalytic converter. ....but all in all i think thats great for a car with 102k miles on it....

WHAT STRENGTHS!?

Weakness:

Replaced: transmission, headgasket, aluminum head, block re-milled, windshield wiper motor, EGR valve, downstream O2 sensor, Fan relay switch, Fan blower, wheel bearings, timing belt, alternator belt, alternator, battery sensor, horrible gas mileage, prices of parts are highly overpriced and they're horrible quality

I would never recommend anyone to buy this horrible money pit of a car. I would have never dreamed that such a car could cause so much trouble. I mean people did warn me about the head gasket going and simple little problems, but the problems I have had have come to equal the amount that I've paid for the car. It truly isn't the ideal student car, it wasn't designed properly at all! Its been one problem after another that has to be dealt with by mechanics because everything was so poorly engineered. Not to mention it isn't a very comfortable ride even if it is a compact family car!!!
