pretty good pick up. pretty cute for a four door car. color. no car payments.

Weakness:

HEAD GASKET OIL LEAK!!!....mine went twice!!! first @39,900 than AGAIN @ 51,500!! the low price is not worth the hassle for me. i've heard of it happening to many others, and they had to pay over $800...thank god dodge payed for mine...i'm still amazed that i went 12,000 miles and it happened again....i can't wait to get rid of this piece of crap! btw my friend had a '97 plymoth neon and she replaced the head gasket about a month after i did the first time(dec. '98). and when she went to trade in her car a couple weeks ago they told her it was starting to go again....unbelievable!
besides that.....it really has not held up very well for a 6 year old car with 51,500 miles on it. replaced brakes not too long ago. paint under the trunk and hood has been chipping for quite some time. tires were such crap, they'd loose pressure almost right after you put air in 'em...they've been replaced with the same ones they came with and i still had the same problem. than i got cheaper michelins and air stayed in much better. a/c broke at about 40,000 miles and it would have been over $500 to repair, so i just roll down the windows now. i absolutly hate the dash, too long and just plain ugly.

from my experience it shows its age quite fast, not too long after i bought it really. the gasket problem is really just a big hassle. they've assured me that since they've improved the part it should not be a problem anymore "because we haven't had any complaints yet"...sorry they've only been useing it for 1 year, so yeah i'd hope they didn't have any problems yet.
i do have to admit the place i bought the car from have really been very good about it, by making sure i don't have to pay for the part.
overall though i haven't really priced them lately i guess you get what you pay for. and maybe the newest ones aren't half as bad, but i wouldn't risk it with my own money.

Strength:

i love this car! it has many sternghts but the biggest strenght i think is the handeling. the car handles great with the stock tires but if u have the money to put on a set of rims it handles 20 times better. the neon does put out a good amount af power, even for the SOHC version, and it greatly improves with just a few after market products. it is very roomy and there is plenty of head room. i think it is a sharp looking car. it is very easy to do modifications to as well, there are many diferent after market products for it.

Weakness:

there really isn't many weakness that this car has, i am overall pleased with the performance of the car. the only thing is the lack of power in the low rpms, but that is only because i have the SOHC.

i would recommend this car to any one who wants a fast and in expensive car. also any one who likes to modify cars, there are plenty of things that can be done to this car.

Strength:

Have owned this car for over 5 years. Bought it new.
Nice road feel for a light car. Tight and responsive for an economy car.
Fuel mileage typically 26-28 mpg w/ manual tranny.
Spacious back seat for a car this size.
Decent acceleration when A/C is off.
Many comfort features (it is a Sport model), like 6-speaker stereo and lighted vanity mirrors, that I typically don't see in this price range.

Weakness:

Big/tall people may have a hard time fitting behind the wheel. Tilt steering helps.
Acceleration comes at the expense of engine whine.
There are 2-seat convertabiles with more trunk space. Bagged groceries will fit, most anything else won't.
Turn on the A/C unit and you will have to downshift to keep moving forward.

I expected much more from this car when I bought it. Thought I had bought advanced technology and style. Since, have been very disappointed.
I seemed to have experienced all the typical complaints heard from other owners . Peeling paint, leaky tail lights, failed gas gauge sending unit, corroded battery terminals, clunky engine mounts, bad factory spark plugs, and the infamous HEAD GASKET OIL LEAK!
Granted, it has been an OK daily driver.
Think of it as a disposable car. A throw away not built to go the distance.

Too bad I traded in the Civic for the Neon.
Repairs were far less frequent, and less expensive.

Strength:

Nice size, good mileage, and low cost.

Weakness:

This car has a hidden defect which will cost you a bundle.

The head gaskets on Neons from 1995 to 1999 are defective. I just had mine replaced. You will notice oil under your car. It will be coming from the drivers side rear of the engine. Chrysler is aware of this defect, but will not help pay for it. They redesigned the head gasket in 1998, but they made 1999's late that year. Beware!!!! I have been on the phone with Chrysler more than I care to mention, and they now say their Corporate decision is to not help me with this problem. If you have one of these cars with this defect, please call Chrysler. Maybe they will declare a "recall" on this car if enough of us call. If you need further evidence, type "neon head gasket" in a search engine, and prepare to be amazed. My rating is for Chrysler Corporation itself.

Strength:

Inexpensive
No serious problems
Good aftermarket support

Weakness:

Slow off lot
Feels cheap
Not good looking

This is a good car if you don't care what you drive, and just want to go from one place to another. I got it for this reason, but quickly became tired with it. They are very inexpensive, but you aren't getting any great deal here, they're worth what they cost and that's it. They can be fast if you buy aftermarket parts for them, but I would rather get a better car instead, which will look and perform better than the Neon.

I LOVE THIS CAR! I tell people to think again when they say "oh a Neon? why did u get a Neon?" When they get in the car with me for a spin, their minds are quickly changed. Very roomy and comfortable, great sound system, lots of pick-up if broken in correctly. Very nice roar from the engine from 3500 to 5000 rpms. Lots of customization potential. I bought it 5 months ago and I have to say it is the best car I have ever driven.

Weakness:

wow this is a tough question. I pretty much am satisfied with everything about the car.

everything all together (taxes, interest, all fees, etc.) was around 20 grand. I think it's well worth it. This car is an investment, take care of it and put money into it and it will last forever. I definitely recommend this car to anybody who wants to buy a low-budget, performance, economical car.

Strong engine-kills civics and cavaliers
Good handling
Comfortable-soft seats
Reliable

Weakness:

The only thing I don't like is the framless windows, they make wind noise at freeway speeds

I paid $5500 for my Neon with 56,000 miles on it. It hasn't given me any trouble. I drive it everywhere and it runs excellent. I am always nominated to drive with my friends, it has lots of leg room in the back for the size of the car. There is enouph leg room for a 6'3 person in the back. All of those fixed up Civics can't even come close to keeping up with me and at the next light they are suprised when I tell them it is completly stock. I highly recomend it to anyone. It is a great car and very reliable.

This car is FAST. Many people say "oh neons, those are just economy cars". Think again. With me i put in a kevlar clutch disk, and a ice air intake and im amzing people everyday. The trick with these is finding where the power is.. Dont red line it (i know i just rebuilt the entire engine because i had it red lined for 15 seconds striahgt and scored the crank). But keep rpms on shifts up around 4000-5500. The neon will fly.. I have a 2.0 dohc with 150 hp. The suspencsion set up is great. The stiffer shocks set up with my pirrelli street tires are a deadly combo. This is simply a fun car!

Weakness:

Engine blew at 75000 due to a life of overrevving.. Easy easy rebuild! umm... small rattles due to my subwoofer

i paid 13500 for it.. It was top o the line when i got it.. I would VERY much reccomend it. The head gasket thing never happened to me :-P I retorqued my heads everyyear :-P
