I spent $7,000, around $600 in engine modifications, and my neon can easily outperform CIVICS, v6 mustangs/cameros, escorts, cavaliers, and various other comparable complact/sport cars. At the track I ran a 15.2 @ 92 mph, and using my g-tech I consistantly get to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. I average OVER 32 MPG!!! Handles better than my friends' Z28 and Integera GSR!!!! And I only have the sport model, my brother's ACR model neon smokes me around the twisties.
Weakness:
Yes, the headgasket issue. One major thing goes wrong and people turn to HONDUHS!!!! My god, I wouldn't take one of those damn cars for free. Its saying "hey, I guess I'll join the rest of the dumb teenies who get mommy and daddy to pay for their riced-out civics" People make me sick when they cry, cry, cry!!! The dodge neon is a fantastic compact car that has outstanding performance/economic value. I'm sick of reading about people whining over the damn head gasket. Ok, so there was one major flaw in the design of the headgasket, and it does suck. I've heard that the dealer even picks up the tab on that. But for god's sake people, how can you conclude that the car isn't any good just by one problem? My head gasket has not been replaced yet, and I've got around 70k on the car. It has been the most reliable, fuel efficient, attractive compact car that I could have bought for 7K. You simply can't beat its value. Similar Products Used: 2 dodge dakotas, loved them both |

When I first got my Neon in August of 1999, I thought it looked pretty good and it was loaded. I never thought a Neon was very nice till I saw this one. I thought the power was very good for a car in this class. The true potential (performance wise and in looks) of this car though is the best thing about it. Since I bought my Neon, it looks and drive nothing like it did stock. Since I bought it I've upgraded it in all kinds of areas. For looks I've put on 17 inch Neeper Concept Fly chrome rims, a wings west big mouth body kit and wings west touring wing, completed the stripes on bumpers, other graphics, Alezza style tailights, 35 tint all the way around, PIAA foglamps behind front grill, PIAA headlight with headlight slits (Gives it the "mean-eye" look at night). I've also put a Black Widow alarm on there with 16 other programable functions (trunkpop, sunroof open, windows roll down, radio turn on,and more all at the touch of a button! I have a Rocford Fosgate Power 500a2 amp running two 12 inch Rocford Fosgate HX2 DVC subs. VERY LOUD!!! I also have other interior mods like carbon fiber shifter, color accents, indiglo guage faces and more. Now onto performance mods. This thing hauls A$$!!! First off, I have a Iceman intake, port and polished intake manifold, vibrant dual exhaust, mpx underdrive pulley, magnecor spark plug wires with upgraded spark plugs, MSD ignition, Hagn Racing craft stage II turbokit, catflow catalytic converter, upgraded pistons and rods, reprogrammed computer with new chip. This baby flies!!! I just got a device you put on your windshield and it records your 0-60 times and your 1/4 times. I just tested it a few days ago and I got a 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of 11.7seconds @108mph! This would blow the doors of a Viper or corvette and it's at a fraction of the cost. Nothing beats car when it's beefed up like this.
Weakness:
Frameless windows on the coupe leak a lot. Lots of engine noise but I like it. Other than that, it's a solid car. If you want the performance of a Corvette, Viper, Supra, or whatever, save your money and but a used Neon for about 6000 and invest another 7-8000 in the engine and you have a car that blows these cars away and it's only 13,000!!! Similar Products Used: Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Dodge Viper=-) Stock a viper blows this away, but the neon beats out the civic and camry by far in every area except engine noise. With |

Easy to park and I like the stereo system. Seats are comfortable
Weakness:
The car SHOCKS me everytime I get out of it. It is very difficult to see out the back window when backing up. Clunks and is hard to get in reverse when parked on a hill (not steep). Car almost grinds to a halt if you turn on the AC while driving. Car is extremely "whiney" especially when turning the steering wheel. Rattles when going uphill, even if I downshift to a lower gear (5 speed) I just don't trust this car. I have a terrible gut feeling that I bought a car that is going to be causing me headaches down the road. I don't like all the weird sounds and am seriously considering trading it in on an import...the thing that sucks though is that the Kelly blue book value shows that the thing is only worth slightly over 8K...which means I owe a lot more than it's worth Similar Products Used: Last car was a Saturn. Had it for 8 years. Ran like a charm. I loved that car. |

Weakness:
Where to start. Sure, buy it they are fun to drive but, the second ONE problems occurs they all seem to follow. I have put more money into this car then what I wish to. Similar Products Used: Hyundai - they both are BAD cars! |

Good economy. I'v had the car about 2.5 years, no major work. Replaced plugs, new k&n, brake pads @ 50000. New tires shortly thereafter. Good acceleration in the power band. Great handling w/ new tires. Fun to drive. Seats 2lg and 2med size people comfortably. Good gas mileage 28/34. Heater works well in cold weather.
Weakness:
Head Gasket, Head Gasket, Head Gasket..... Mine is just going now (65000) I'll call the dealership tomorrow. Wind noise (typical for the car) Poor power at low end. Water evaporation in the trunk. No standard in cab trunk release?????? Bottoms out easy on high curbs. A/C sucks power even more in low end. If you are buying a neon 1995-1999 make sure it has had the head gasket replaced w/ MLS version. If not Crysler's # is 1-800-992-1997. Good student car. Will reccomend it if I have a plesant experience with Service. Similar Products Used: Honda- Neon is less expensive and it shows. |

Failry roomy for a small car (I'm 6'5") Lots of pep when new. Handles fairly well.
Weakness:
Came with sort of orange peel effect on roof paint. Dealer ignored it. Black trim around doors is peeling. Has had a steady stream of black goo coming out of rear window seals. Car designed so that snow chains are not usable. WHATAMESS! Leaks water into rear floor pan that soaks the carpet. Inside of windshield trim buckled. Now leaking oil like a sieve. Understand this car has major oil problems. I am considering donating it to charity and getting something foreign like a nice reliable HONDA. I will NEVER buy another Chrysler Product. I've had a Reliant Wagon and two Voyager van's. Things are just getting worse. By the way. Does anyone from Daimler/Chrysler ever read these rantings. If they do, how do they sleep at night? Never buy this vehicle or any other Chrysler Product. I want to support American car makers, but am constantly diassapointed. Next car will be German, Sedish or Japanese. Sorry America/Nafta. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort. Consumers reports recommends the Escort. Says NEVER even consider the Neon. |

Well, besides the fatc that this car has a reputation for mechanical failures so the mechanics know exactly what's wrong with it before you even bring it in, I would say nothing. (Low Insurance)
Weakness:
Well, the car ran great for about a year, 22K. Then all hell broke lose. First it was with the interior, the seatbelt broke, the stereo sucked, and the sunroof and window seals all had to be replaced due to leaking. Then I went thru 2 sets of brakes and a set of tires in the second year. then the oil switch broke, which leaked oil so steathly, that I didn't discover the problem until I was a quart and half low. That lead to me blowing the first engine up. So i got a brand new engine from a junkyard for 2G's installed. Well soon after, The head gasket blows and the radiator fans stop working. another G out the windows. Oh yah I forgot to mention how many rotors and tires this car was eating during the time. Well, it's on it's 4th set of tires and 3rd set of brakes. Now the transmission is acting up making all sorts of harsh shifts and whatnot. Also the camshaft sensor had to be replacd becuase of high reving idielng. ThIs Car sucks. It's a POS that will run you into the poorhouse. Do not buy it. But you can buy mine if you want. Do yourself a favor and don't even think of buying it. I loved it at first, I had the first year with the 150hp engine, and thought it was great. Then the next year everyone got it. The car is everywhere, and it sucks. I can't believe people still buy this POS. Similar Products Used: 98 Grand Prix GTP, Much better car but it's also a different class. This car has had no major problems after 50k. |

Good acceleration for a four banger. Sleek, modern styling drew many compliments- not bad for a six year old car. Excellent handling, very fun to take through the twisties! 30-35 mpg (5 speed).
Weakness:
A few squeaks and rattles; general feeling of cheapness about the materials of the car. Difficult to drive smooothly, throttle response was somewhat balky. Noisy engine, that could be fun sometimes, too. Would recommend to anyone who wants cheap fun. Also, fairly reliable for me, even though I onbly had it 9 months, I put over 15,000 miles on it, and they weren't easy ones (delivered pizzas in it). Had to replace a wheel bearing, but no major problems and still running great when I sold it at 92,000 miles. Good first car, or sporty commuter.
