Total waste of money. This junker is really a mitsubishi, but Dodge had the balls to put thier name on it, I will never buy Dodge/ Chrysler again. You name it and it broke on this car, it was reguraly serviced, treate great, never abused and still it was a failure. I wish I could talk to the people who designed this scrap metal and find out what they were smoking! Unless you like to live at the dealership, avoid this junker like the plauge. Happiest day of my experince with this P.O.S. was when I traded it in!

Strength:

Nothing, unless you think looking good parked is a strength.

Weakness:

EVERYTHING

Lousy excuse for a sports car. Only good feature is it looks great in your driveway after you detail it. Super CHEAP parts, dont last. Built like they did not care at all about owner loyalty. Even though this car is essentially a Mitsubishi, Dodge had the balls to put thier name on a P.O.S. Because of this, I will NEVER buy a Chryscer/ Dodge product EVER! I was so relieved to finnaly unloat this junk, even though I only put 30000 miles on it. If you want to be known by all the service people at your dealership, buy this car. Otherwise avoid it like the plauge!!!

Looks. Ok, I just felt compelled. For a 4 cylinder car, this thing moves right along. I've stayed with 3rd gen Camaro RS's, (and beat some) and have done nothing to my car. I've been to over 140 MPH with it, with room to go (just not the road) and it was fine. A little lofty, due to the lack of downforce (see comarison)., but manageable. And the engine will take damn near anything. I've seen reports of up to 275 HP manageable with a stock motor, and no side effects after many runs, so that's a good sign (for those like me who don't know better, and feel we have to tinker)

Weakness:

As I said, I have a few quirks with my car. Some of which I've fixed, others I haven't. I bought my car used, for the record. The door switches for the interior lights haven't worked since I bought the car. An annoyance, really. I HAVEN'T had problems with my brakes. Actually, I haven't changed them since I bought my car a year and a half ago. Yes, they're due. I have a little wind noise in the driver's window, probably because the window braces are worn (it rattles when I shut the door). The trunk lid rattles a little (too lazy to epoxy it back). I did have a fit with the engine light, turns out the spark plug wires were shorting. Changed them, reset the car, good as gold. I did also lose the ranny near Christmas. Fixed under used car warranty, going fine. Like I said, moslty annoyances, nothing too major for too long.

Ok. Like I saw another reader write, some of you must have gotten a bum deal, cause I have a 96, and yes, it squeaks here and there, but has been fairly good to me.

I really haven't had a similar product. I got this following a 1986 IROC-Z28 Camaro. Go figure. So in that regard, it's a little less of a car. Less downforce at high speeds (My ROC stayed gluesd to the pavement). A little more roll in turns, nowhere NEAR the acceleration. But, not bad considering, and with a Stage 1 turbo, will have that acceleration under control. I definately like my car (though I miss the T-tops). A much more useable rear seat, with folding capability to boot. An actual trunk. And a sporty little car to go with it. And yes, I've gotten compliments on it's looks from the day I brought it home.

KILLER LOOKS!!!! Car has so much potential in terms of makin the Avneger a tricked out car. Excellent legroom, front to back, good handling capabilities. Good reliable American car. Not very many of those!!! Trust me!!!

Weakness:

ENGINE!!!!!!! The car looks like a step down from a Viper!!!! Only 163 HP for the V-6?? My paren'ts 96 Toyota Camry (family luxury sedan) has a V-6 and has 220 HP (sport engine) and the base model has 188 HP. FAMILY SEDAN!!! It sure as hell can toast the Avenger in a race! But the looks..well can't compare! Youd think by lookin at the car, it's competition is a Porsche

GREAT CAR. Although it's been said over 1000 times. LOOKS LIKE A KRAZY KILLER RIDE. Mine's jet black with a killer sound system. V6 2.5 Litre engine. No problems whatsoever!!! Although a quicker engine would be nice. kinda dds to the look of the car.

The A/C gets cold right away. The turning is excellent and handles well in curves. Performance tires really help. Lots of room for a sports car, plenty of room in the trunk. Great for a system. Easy self-maintenance. Great car, turns heads all the time!

Weakness:

The turning radius. Not good. Everyone else who has listed paragraphs of problems, I don't know what you are doing to your cars, but mine is perfectly fine. Treat your car with a little TLC and you'll get good performance right back.

I love the look of this car. I am the only one around that has a car like mine. It is original, and sporty. Putting a few decals here and there really adds some spice to the look.

Strength:

LOOKS! The cars overall driving is great. It has very sensitive steering which makes for great handling. Also, I have yet to replace the factory speakers because they sound great. They are the best factory speakers I've heard. I upgraded the stereo to a Kenwood Excelon and the sound is amazing.

Weakness:

I guess the brakes head this list. As I mentioned, I've only had the car a few months and brakes are sqealing. The only other complaint I have is that after it rains or there is a lot of condensation on the car, the moisture drips into the car (only when the window is open) which is probably why I see alot of avengers with rain guards.

I love it! As most others say, the looks grab everyone's attention. Mine is black and trimmed in blue and silver and I get a lot of complements and stares. I have only had it a couple of months and my brakes seem to be wearing out but I have had no other problems with it. It runs great and it is a quick four. I agree that it is a little slow from the start but once your going it flies. It only has 60,000 miles on it and for $6500 I think I got a good deal. Most people are amazed that it is a 95 and not newer. I would defenitely recommend buying an avenger to anyone.

I can't really give a similar product but I will say, I had a 94 Dodge shadow ES which I loved. I bought it for $4900 and it had 41,000 miles on it. Someone broadsided me in april and totaled it. After four years with it, it never gave me one bit of trouble. The avenger is much nicer looking and seems to be every bit as reliable (except for the brakes).

Strength:

This car is a sleek looking masculin car. Although a lot of people have had many problems with there cars, mine has been great. I have only had to change the starter since I bought it two years ago. It only has 64,000km on it. Overall a great car for the money.

Weakness:

the only major design flaw is the nose is to low to the ground. If you take a steep driveway too fast you will scrape the nose every time.

Overall I am very happy with my car. It has never let me down any more than what I expect from a car. I bought it used at a GM dealership and it is under warranty but if they can't fix it thay send it to a Dodge dealership. It took the Dodge dealership 3 days to replace the starter.
Dodge service sucks! This car is the best I've ever driven and if you're looking to buy one, go for it. You won't regret it!

Strength:

This is a very sporty-looking car. It makes many heads turn because not many people have them around here. I think it's one of the most attractive looking cars around.

Weakness:

Mine has a V-6, not as much power as it looks like it should have, but if you're interested in a car that gets you from place to place smoothly, then this is it. Take off power might not be up-to-date but the power is definitely there.

I've had it for about 3 months, but I've put a good bit of mileage on it. The only problems I have is that the brand new brakes squeak and there's an irritating sound that comes from the engine when hitting high speeds.
If you're just starting out, I would recommend this car to someone. It looks sporty, alot of space in the car, and very well worth the money, I think.

Not many people own these cars either (I don't blame them!). The Avernger totally has held out, compared to the Laser, which broke down faithfully every 3 months or so...

THE DODGE AVENGER WAS NICE I LIKED THE BODY AND OVERALL STYLE OF THE CAR BUT IT SEEMED TO LACK WHAT WE CAN SAY BALLS.

Weakness:

THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY A NICE CAR

THE AVENGER WAS IMPRESSIVE FOR ME BUT SINCE MY NEW CAR THERE IS NO COMPARISON. WHEN I TAKE OFF IN MY R/T THE WHEELS JUST SPIN AND IT FLYS.
WITH THE AVENGER IT HAD LESS OF A TAKEOFF. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE AVENGER TO ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A NICE DEPENDABLE SPORT CAR WITH A LOT OF ROOM
I REALLY FEEL THE AVENGER IS A SHARP CAR IT TURNS HEADS. I HOWEVER AM SATISFIED MORE WITH MY NEWER CHOICE.

Model Reviewed: avenger (manual) 49,000 miles

Strength:

Definitely it's style. I was in the market for a Mustang when this beauty caught my eye. It still turns heads, mine included. Great gas mileage. Surprising back seat room for a "sports" car.

Weakness:

After reading many reviews, the #1 problem seems to be breaks and rotors. Although I haven't had this problem yet, one that WAS brought to my attention was the head gasket. I found out before I purchased it, that failing head gaskets had become a common problem, as well as an expensive one. Automatic car washes are a hassle, as well, because the water likes to leak in a bit.

Overall, I love this car. I haven't had any of the problems that i've seen some people describe to no end. Replaced the battery recently, though, which is early. Be weary of the head gasket. If it hasn't failed by 50,000, it probably won't. Often times, if the car is slightly out of warranty, chrysler will fix it F.O.C. anyway because of the high occurance rate. Know the risks when buying a sportier car. I was aware of the risks I was willing to take, and this car has not made me regret it. It has paid off in spades. Steer clear of automatic car washes - go manual. This car loves speed, and I love feeding it to it. Definitely won't find a better sports car for the price. On a side note, get the 5 speed. It may only be 4-cyl, but it is most choice. 154 hp is pretty good for a stock inline 4, and you will appreciate it when you can wrap the engine up to 6,000 rpm for a nice little "kick in the pants".

Similar Products Used:

95 Mitsubishi Eclipse - These two are almost exactly the same car when it comes to the engine (no cruise control on the eclipse), but avenger has a longer frame, thus providing ample more room in the back seat than the eclipse. Different body styles - more of an exotic look on the eclipse. The avenger has a trunk, where as the eclipse opts for a hatch back, most likely because of the shorter body.
