Strength:

Awesome looking car, great power however I would not complain about more power especially in a special edition V-8 powered rear drive for those power pumpin Stangs who can't keep their nose out of my business

Weakness:

Hard to find power with the a/c on

I bought this avenger about a year ago. No real problems. For the most part the car is great. Like one reader said "you need to know how to drive a stick" without worrying about blowing your engine. I had this four banger floored quite a few times with hi revs and no problems there after. There were a couple of memorable moments that stick in my mind to tell you about. I blew the snot off a honda accord after this guy cut me off and then decided to spin dirt at me at a street light corner. So it was on, I passed him between second and third gear doing between 70-80 like he was standing still although I have to give him his respect he did not give up until I blew him away at the next stop light before he reallized he had nothing. Another time I was just cruising in 5th about 45 mph on my way to base with a full load of passengers and a souped up Cavalier comes up aside me and revs his car egging me on. I was going to be a good boy and not do anything, but this guys kept reving his car past me then back beside a couple of time before the racing blood decided to flow through my veins. The second time he fell back beside me it was a spur of the moment thing that I slammed the car into second blew past the Cavalier and pulled in front of him to rub his face with embarrasment all in about 1 or 2 heart beats. The only problem I have is the power when a/c is applied, so when you are with your best girl with a/c it is a good thing for tinted windows because race day is off for the time being. I am not saying you can't get the power in an emergency it is just a struggle to get it. I just bought some new racing rims with some fat a-- tires to set off the car pretty nicely, only downside is I lost some power due to the size I put on. There goes chirping my tires in second and have not been able to squeal them yet in first since having them. I need to find more power to max my use of tires at a stop light. Looking into it as I write this to you Avenger enthusiasts.

I've read alot of the reviews on this car and I'm amazed. The Avenger was my dream car, it was what I wouldn't be happy without. At 19, I bought it by myself, (a hard thing to do when you're a part time worker at a dead end job and full time student). I found the car on the internet (THANK YOU!!) Avengers are hard to find in Orangeburg, there are only about 10 in this town. And dealerships couldn't keep them b/c they sold too fast. Well, I found this one, and I don't regret it for anything. The power is fantastic, and mine is only the 2.0 4 cyl. I can dog out mustangs, cameros, and once (and only once) a corvette (he said something was wrong with his engine, probably why I won). Mine is a manual, which is fabulous, wouldn't have it any other way. It does jerk a little when i start off, but I just figured it was my crappy driving skills. I bought the car with 62000 miles on it, the only thing that I saw wrong with it was the clear coat had come off the left side panel, which I had painted right after I bought it and the dealership payed half. (Cost me $70). I also had to replace the thermostat, ($10) and that's about it. The brakes are starting to squeal, so I've got to change them. ($35) All and all, my first car (1984 Honda Accord) ain't got nothing on this car!

Strength:

Looks, decent power, interior design, back seat and trunk roominess.

Weakness:

brakes, turning radius, transmission, poor handling.

Since I have acquired my Avenger I have put about 8,000 miles on it with a few problems to speak of. I had to replace a bad serpertine belt that set me back $100. Other than that I have had no major problems. I agree with what everyone else has said about the brakes. They shake like crazy when braking from any speed above 20 mph. I really don't want to spend the money for new pads and rotors if I don't have to, so I will how long they will last. The passenger side dash speaker and the driver side door speaker are both blown to hell and make all kind of noises, none of which remotely resembling good bass (I have the Infinity sound option). The turning radius is just awful. I feel like a a jackass when I cannot park straight in a regular sized lot. The transmission is not the best. The car jerks often during acceleration. The car also makes all kind of squeaks and odd noises when driven. The stock rear wing has totally lost its color, not really sure why the wing is the only part of the car that has lost its color. For the price I paid however, I am very pleased. I have only had to have it serviced once. For a V-6, it has decent power. Enough power to have fun with the other sports cars on the highway. It can smoke stock Mustangs and Camaros and other cheap sports cars with ease. It seems to have excellent acceleration in the 60mph-90mph range. I love its looks, by far its best feature. The interior (exact same as Eclipse) is also pretty. Both the backseat and trunk are very roomy. The stock rims are also nice looking, a feature hard to find on todays cars. Overall I am very pleased.

I love this car!!! What more can i say. This is my very first car and I couldnt be happier I went with the 1995 Dodge Avenger 2.5liter V6. I bought it in excellent condition as a high school sophmore and I couldnt be happier with it. If you want a car that attracts attention... this is the car for you. I cant even begin to explain how many chics have gone out of their way to tell me what an awesome car i have.

Well designed, roomy interior. Good looks.

Weakness:

POWER....the avenger should have had more power from the factory. Also the fact that you can''t get a Manual trans. with the V6 is stupid. Also aftermarket upgrades are tough to find.

Overall my Avenger has been great. I have had no major problems, or little ones for that matter. I''ve always used synthetic oil and have had no engine trouble.

Nice looking car,but no power. I have had many problems with this car. new brakes, 2 new o2 sensors, 2 set of those expensive tires. If the battery cables are not on tight enough the car stalls in the rain. i also had a new fuel pump, fuel gauge, and the relay switch on the fuel injection.also had a new alternator and battery. i bought the car with 42k and i have put well over 40k. it was my first car and it was not a good expierence.

Styling, good factory CD/Cassette stereo

Weakness:

engine, transmission, tires, brakes, squeaks and rattles, gas mileage, quality of interior materials

1997 Dodge Avenger ES Got it brand new in January of ''98 for $18,600 with 120 miles on it. It was my first car, and I was 16. It was a perfect first car, in that it didn''t have a lot of power to get myself into trouble. I liked the styling--it got good looks in high school. I had it for 36,000 miles, and then I sold it for a Honda Civic (I got $7000 for it on the trade-in at the dealer). The Avenger was becoming troublesome. Problems I experienced at the time of 36,000 miles: I could get no better than 17mpg in the city, tires were expensive at $110 each, I had three oxygen sensors replaced, the front brake rotors had warped 3 times, the transmission was getting sluggish, tons of squeaks and rattles, one of the stereo''s speakers would buzz if played at a certain volume, and my left rear quarter panel would fill up with water when it rained. It was never in an accident, so none of those problems were induced at all. Like somebody else wrote, it was a good car for the first 20,000 miles, then the maintenance gets expensive. On a side note, my Honda Civic has 40,000 miles on it and there isn''t a single squeak or rattle in it. Such a good car.

Strength:

Things I love: lots of trunk space for my speakers, plenty of space for seating, manual transmission, doesn''t rattle when bass is up, and the great gas mileage.

Weakness:

A few things I wish I could change: heating/air conditioning not powerful enough, windshield wipers not fast enough, the gutless 3rd gear, and the bad turning radius.

The car is an overall good one. With only 60,000 miles, it was a pretty good deal for a 1997 model under $7000 dollars. Good crash test rating from personal experience. It gets lots of compliments.

Has excellent power. Looks awsome. Has alot of room. Very comf. Has a very large selection of what you can do with it or what to put on it.

Weakness:

Piece of crap wheels, buy new ones. Windows leak, not bad but when your washing it and have high pressure it leaks on the sides. The radio is down way to far. Insurence is a little on the expensive side. Trunk is a little small if you have 2 15s and 2 800 watt amps lol...

This car is bad ass. I''ve had it for a while now and I was looking at some of yalls other reviews and I was amazed at what yall put down here on this car. I havent had any of the trouble yall have had. Everything is GREAT except when i first got it the hubcaps kept comming off so I had to buy some rims, and the POWER I can''t see how 0-60 in 6.3 sec is not enough. The power is awsome on my car i dont know if the guy that used to have it did something or not i dont know but this car will FLY, literaly, I''ve got it up to 153mph before and i didnt want to kill myself so i let off i bet it couldve went alot faster though Oh yea the sound system was awsome but very little bass so I had to buy 2 15''s and 2 800 watt amps, now the sound system is bad ass with a pioneer cd player 200 watts. I just recently put new rims on it 19''s on it chromed out its nice. Got a large spoiler on the back that sticks up like one of those race cars you know tha exotic cars and got tinted windows and some black outs for the headlights. Now its the best looking and sounding car in my town and maybe everywhere else lol...
