Strength:

Price and standard features. Looks and styling. Agree that other manufacturers should sit-up and take notice.I looked @ every car in this class and this is the only car that could easily handle my longs legs in the back seat. It is absolutely ridiculous to me that car manufacturers make and consumers buy cars that have no rear seat leg room and that you have to step-up to a BMW 7 series or like vehicle to get it. That is until the Leganza! The trunk is very roomy although I do agree with others that a release via the remote would be nice.

Weakness:

Engine is noisy. Transmission shifts abruptly especially when the engine is cold. Entry level interior fabric looks cheap. Cupholders in front are all but useless (I've had 3 drinks spill because the well is not deep enough to handle a larger cup) and there are no cupholders in the rear. Also it would be nice if the rear seat had lights on either side for reading without having to turn on the overhead interior light. The stock tires are noisy and did not last long (30,000.) I have replaced with Yokohama and the handling and ride have both improved.

Overall I am very pleased with this vehicle thus far... We purchased this car with low miles on it (8,500) and at a substantial discount. Daewoo is working on coming out with a luxury car and SUV, I may be in the market for one if my current level of satisfaction holds. Where this car excels is in the $ vs. features category. The list of standard features even on the entry level car is great. Honda acts like they are doing you a favor by including an engine in their entry level cars! I figure they must be doing something right if Ford and GM are interested in buying them!

94 Volkswagon Jetta- German vs. Korean what can I say... However the German cars are just too expensive to maintain. I loved driving the Jetta but again no room and every time something went wrong it cost an arm and a leg to fix it! The Saturn was a very good car for inexpensive maintenance. It again lacked room inside as well as refinement under the hood (engine was very noisy).

Model Reviewed: SX Leganza

Strength:

The car is very well put together, looks very nice. I got the 5 speed SX that makes a big difference. Very quiet inside.

Local service department is one of the best I have dealt with. Great service.

Pretty good acceleration when the car isn't loaded down. Very nice stereo, quality coaxials in the front door and rear deck.

Very loaded for the money (power windows, doorlocks, mirrors, keyless entry, ABS, etc.)

Styling. Very nice styling that reminds me of the Lexus GS class. Some chrome wheels would go along way in changing the look and character of the car.

Weakness:

The tires seem to be one of the cars biggest shortcomings, as is the stock suspension. Lack of any aftermarket support is also a big turn off (Although I found a rimmer supercharger for the car that I'm saving my pennies on). The Lanos and Nubira seem to be getting more support.

Had a horrible experience with the local dealer and the manufacturer that I had to file a BBB claim to get resolved (and is unresolved to this day).

I wish that the trunk could be opened through the keyless entry remote.

Gas mileage is a bit low for a car of this size engine. Why can a automatic car with a v8 get the same type of mileage on the highway as a car like this?

Starter died after 40,000 miles. Had been making noise for quite some time, just figured it was the nature of the beast. Service department stepped up to the plate and had it taken care of.

Lexus styling is very nice, but makes backing the car up a little harder than it should be.

The only feature I would really want on the base model is cruise control. The SX comes very well loaded for my tastes for the money, but cruise control is something that I wish I could add to the car somehow.

Resale is still a question that I have to wonder about. Daewoo sells some of the cars to rental car companies, who drive them and then unload them on the used car market.

Got rid of the 3 year/36,000 mile free maintenance plan (which I loved and got alot of use out of). Should drop the price of the car a little, but its nice knowing that the car is covered for three years.

The car itself is wonderful. The trunk is very big, very spacious. The full size spare is a great feature on a car of this caliber. The keyless entry is a great feature as well. The suspension leaves a bit to be desired. A nice set of high performance and/or low profile tires will probably help the handling some. I bought the car with the intention of putting a very large stereo inside and it is big enough and quite enough to fit the bill nicely.
If you are looking for a car for the long haul, I might recommend getting a Leganza (especially at the deals I have seen recently in the paper). If you change cars every two years, the resale value might come back to haunt you.
I plan on keeping mine for a few more years, putting some rims and tires on it and a big stereo. If I'm lucky a rimmer supercharger as well. The supercharger will probably take care of the biggest problem with the car, lack of power. Probably the best car I've owned, and my first new car.

Test driven many cars in the past. Driven the 1998 accord, much nicer, smoother engine. Drive a 1994 Sentra and this car is much quiter and almost as quick. Driven a 1998 Lexus GS300 and while it does have some of the same styling, the inside and the engine don't even come close.

Strength:

It looks like a Lexus, the ride is very quiet and smooth. The seats are comfortable and it's engine is very responsive when needed. The warranty is great and from what I've read it doesn't sound like I'll need to use it.

Weakness:

The only complaint I have about buying this car is the dealer was not the most trustwothy or friendly, (he had the only one in the in the valley in the color I wanted). I already knew I wanted this car because I did my homework before walking in. A little homework pays off in the end. I saved lots, and had him doing the work to earn my business.

My experience with the car so far has been outstanding. I love the car and tell all my friends and family about it. They can't believe how inexpensive a great car like this can be. I got the same options and warranty of Honda and Toyota at a fraction of the price. Personally I think they look better. Giugiaro did a fabulous job designing this gem. I think Daewoo will sell lots of cars once the word gets around. I see lots of curious looks from Honda and Lexus drivers who are probably wondering why the payed so much more money.

I test drove Hyundai's but for the price they didn't compare. Didn't even bother with Toyota or Honda, I have owned Toyota's and Honda's in the past but the prices have gone up just too high. This car is almost identical to all those cars only the price is the most realistic compared to what they really cost to manufacture.

Strength:

Very Attractive Car. Good stereo. Nice price/feature ratio. Good-sized trunk with full-sized spare tire. Good seating for 5.

Weakness:

I wish this vehicle had more pick-up. If this car had a stronger engine, this car would be untouchable. No pause button on CD Player (surprising for a consumer electronics manufacturer) Wish it had a trunk opener on its remote-entry keyring.

I'd have to say that this is the best Bang-For-Buck vehicle you will find in the mid-size vehicle arena. I love the Accord, but I'm very happy with the Leganza. If you need a good balance between money spent and features purchased, this is your vehicle. If you are looking for supreme performance, this shouldn't be your first choice.

Strength:

Classy looking, nice interior, fantastic sound system, excellent ride, much more room than the competitors, get a lot for your money, a solid feel when opening and shutting doors.

Weakness:

Needs a little more power; some items, such as windsheild visors are not made as well as competitors and probably will not hold up as long; missing cup holders in the back; cup holders in the front are almost unuseable; lack of small miscellaneous compartments which you become used to having; does not have a power outlet in front or back; security system does not give adquate feedback

You get what you pay for. I gave up a lot of small features to get a lot of big ones. The real test will be in how the car holds up under the 30,000 miles a year that I drive.

Strength:

This is a great car, especially for new drivers. It is not too powerful, but powerful enough. Great system for a great price.

Weakness:

Nothing at all, great car.

Recommended very highly to anyone at all. The price is cheap but you do get a great deal that would be nearly impossible to beat. I have searched primarily on the internet, but have not found any car that is cheaper. It also ranks a lot higher than most of the cars which cost more than it.

EXCELLENT value if you purchase an SE. Smooth ride. Reliable. Lots of space. Great styling for this price point

Weakness:

Needs an optional V6 or turbo 4. Engine could be quieter and smoother. High end model (cdx) too expensive.

A HUGE value for the money if you purchase as SE. I paid 13,500 and got pwr/windws and locks, AC/ 100Watt 6 spk stereo, fog lights, keyless entry and alarm, etc. Also there was some mistake at the factory because i got leather and pwr drv seat! This is mid size car with comparable interior volume to camry, accord, etc.
