Strength:

Everything is great!

Weakness:

None

I wrote a review right after I got the car, and it''s been a year now. I am still completely satisfied with it. I have had no problems whatsoever. Everything is great. Very comfy, great gas mileage, good speakers, heat and AC work great, etc. My prism has just a few options, like CD and power door locks. Even though before this I was used to a loaded car, I am just as satisfied with this one despite it being fairly basic. I have it on a lease, and I like it so much I think I am going to buy it. I would recommend this car to anyone. Excellent car.

Strength:

Handling, comfort, and horsepower. For it''s intended purpose it is over the top. It''s almost to sporty for a commuter car. It''s a practical car with some snap

Weakness:

I would say interior road noise which seems to be worse when it''s cold. this is probably typical.

It appears to be a great car. I had a 2000 chevy cavalier and was not impressed. It was decent transportation and did not give any problems. good basic transportation. It was stolen and totalled and my insurance company allowed for a rental in the mean time. I rented a 2001 Corolla for a couple of weeks. After a couple of days I realized this was a totally different car. It was fun and almost exciting to drive. I have a steep hill on the way to work and this was the first car that didn''t seem to have any trouble with it. It was barely working at 50mph and would accelerate easily. I bought a prizm because it was the same machine as the Corolla. I''ve not been dissapointed, but I recommend getting the 5 speed manual or the 4 speed automatic transmissions.

Strength:

Gas mileage, dependability, few **major** repair issues.

Weakness:

These seem like petty complaints, but here is what has gone wrong in all the 6 years I have owned it: 1) A/C is not very good/cold at all (drove it in both California and Virginia, and it wasn''t just the humidity or lack of); 2) Knobs for air flow & temp were cheap and have been replaced twice (while still under warranty); 3) Passenger door handle fell off. Other than that, these are NOT major repairs for which you should not buy the car. Echoing another review, when it was new I also did have numerous problems with the dealership and with Chevy "customer care." When it was still under warranty, I took it in for about 12 of these "minor problems," and Chevy and the dealership BOTH said that I had given a "laundry list" of things to be fixed. Do NOT let this dissuade you from buying a Prizm, though -- since you pay thousands of dollars for a car, you SHOULD be able to take it in as you please -- either for one "little thing" or for many little things. I chose to take it in to have several little things done at once, and apparently they really aren''t customer-service oriented.

Wonderful car. I have the 5-speed manual transmission, and this is highly recommended on a 4-cylinder car. I rent cars often, and similar size cars to the Prizm (Corolla, Mazda Protege, Kia, Neon, etc.) in automatic transmission do NOT have the power and acceleration as the manual. Especially in today''s world, if you are looking for a reliable car with good gas mileage, this car is the answer to your prayers.

Strength:

Extremely reliable. Great on gas with 25+ miles per gallon average. Pretty roomy car considering its body size. Able to pile in 3 kids in the back seat pretty comfortably. Front seats are very roomy. Easy to drive, and handles well in any weather condition.

Weakness:

Cosmetic issues, I noticed rust spots starting to grow on the bottom of the doors--probably didn''t help I lived through some harsh Minnesota winters. Windows gave me a headache, had to take apart the door to realign the windows. Window handles broke off on the inside. But for all the mechanical pluses, I could live with the cosmetic minuses any day.

This car has been very reliable, and I have owned it 10 years. It always started in even the coldest of winters living in Minnesota''s sub-zero temps. I have had to do very little work mechanically, only typical work for a car of this age--such as brake pads being replaced, etc. This car is just like those battery commericials...its keeps going, and going, and going and with 160,000+ miles, its still going strong. A great used car to purchase for a college student or first used car for your kids.

Strength:

Reliable engine (toyota engine) fast

Weakness:

Build quality brakes (4wheel drum)

AT first this car looked like it was a steal when i bought it 10 years ago. Now with 95,000 miles it runs strong (the engine) not so much the rest of the car. two door handles have fallen off, the driver seat belt broke, the a/c acts more like a heater, the windows don''''t roll up all the way and the 3spd automatic isn''''t that great either. But with 130hp this car is fast. But going 60 or 65 on the highway the whole car shakes a lot. The brakes are sucky its got 4 wheel drums.

Strength:

good on gas, very reliable, comfortable, handles great and can get you up to 60 mph in about 8 seconds

Weakness:

the 3 speed automatic transmission. I had it in my last prism. Its worth the extra money to get the four speed.

This is my second Prism. I have put 20,000 miles on it in the year that I have had it. I have not had any problems with this car at all. I love the way it handles. It very comfortable on long trips also. I would recommend this car to anyone that is thinking of getting a compact car. Make sure to get the 4 speed trasmission if you are getting an automatic.

Strength:

I feel it has pretty good power and a smooth ride, radio is ok and it has alot of room inside.

Weakness:

I have had a rotten egg smell from this car since day 1. I also had a problem with the windows frosting up on the inside as well as the outside. There was literally ice on the inside of the windows! I now have about 1,400 miles on it and still have the rotten egg smell. dealership or GM has done nothing to resolve problem. Also, the cup holder is very flimsy. Some road noise.

I am very unhappy with the car. Would not buy from the dealership again and may never buy another Chevrolet. This car has smelled like rotten eggs from day 1. I smell it in the inside of the car through the vents and also around the outside of the car. I had to scrape the inside of my windows due to frost about 3 or 4 days in a row, the first week I had the car. Those are the major problems I have had and continue to have.
There are some nice features to the car such as roomy interior, smooth ride and easy steering. Unfortunately, the bad things out way the good.

Strength:

Great reliable car for the money, esp. when compared to a Corolla (same car, more or less). Awesome gas mileage for a sporty compact sedan. The car does great in snow when matched with four snow tires. The car is very easy to maintain. I have never had any major work done in 85K miles. The suspension is tighter than the Corolla, Saturn SL2, and the four door Civic, so it corners and holds the road very well for a car in this class.

Weakness:

Little torque in the 1.6L engine. Have to get the RPM's up to pass at speed. The car creaks and rattles a lot, showing somewhat cheap construction. Seats could have more support. Tight back seat room, but what does one expect from a compact car.

I love this car. It's a great commuter car, great economy car, and well rated for its class. I highly recommend this car if you're on a budget, or just need a very reliable car.

Strength:

Reliability (+++), speed (for a 3-speed), price, and overall quality.

Weakness:

Door handles (inside and out) seem cheap, adding options to the car raise the price to a comparable mid-size car (such as an Accord). Looks a little bland compared to other vehicles at the same price.

I took my driving test 8 years ago in a '90 Prizm. Every year of my driving career except for one I have had a Prizm. The thing that you can expect most about the Prizm is its solid reliability. The car will not quit. This is most likely because it is a Corolla. If you need something cheap, you cannot go wrong with this car. I got over 200,000 miles off of the '90 Prizm with only a radiator problem maintaining a normal maintenance schedule (brakes, tires, plugs, etc.). I have put on over 27,000 miles on my '99 this year alone (45,000 miles total on the car) and I have not had one problem, nor did I feel the urge to buy an extended warranty. The car feels more sturdy and more expensive than the Cavalier, Escort, and Neon. It handles better than the Cavalier and Escort. The 99's 3-speed transmission will give you no gripes about passing highway traffic, and the fuel efficiency, just as the '90 Prizm, is on average City and Highway 31 MPG. I have had experience with the Mitsubishi Galant and the Saturn SL2, both maintenance-heavy cars, and all I can say is that I have saved thousands of dollars between the price and the low maintenance of this vehicle than over both of those cars. I fully expect another 200,000 miles out of my '99. If your wish is to save some money now and over the long run, this is the only car that I know of that will truly fulfill it.

Similar Products Used:

From the experience I have had with a Ford Escort, Chevrolet Cavalier, Dodge Neon, Mitsubishi Galant, and even a Saturn SL2, the Prizm has a great edge.
