when it is windy, you can feel it, but otherwise, it is a very dependable, study car. I really have no other complaints about it. 1. good gas milege 2. very sporty and cute 3. excellent commuter car (and I drive SEATTLE traffic, so I would know!!) 4. sturdy 5. very dependable 6. car go anywhere a mid-size car, large car or SUV can't.. 7. fun to drive, handles nicely 8. very roomy and comfortable for its size 9. rides nicely 10. handles very well in snow and rain (but like any other car, it must have good tires, or that will change!) 11. the back seat folds down making tons of room for hauling and carrying stuff..it is also very fun to take to a drive-in movie because you and a friend (or whomever) can sit in the back with the hatch-back open and still be comfortable. 12. Has a good stereo system..(it's the original, too) 13. If you're running low on money, this is a nice car to buy because it is inexpensive and still looks nice, won't give you problems, and is overall a nice car to have. |

Strength:
Cheap to buy and run.
Weakness:
It's got G.M. on it It's not very powerful but I didn't buy it to race with. The big problem is General Motors and the dealers. I bought it in the fall of 97 and didn't use the A.C. untill 98. In 98 the A.C. didn't work, the dealer said it was low and filled it. In 99 the A.C. failed again and the dealer filled it and I was on my way. In 2000 the same thing. Last week June 2002 again no A.C. but this time the warranty is up and the extended warranty does not cover it. So guess what they find the problem and want $438.00 to fix it. Strength:
1)cheap 2)cheap 3)cheaper still 4)the sedan doesn't look THAT bad 5)reliable (never left me stranded) 6)did I mention cheap?
Weakness:
1)small (but you get used to it) 2)a/c weak (well, it's a metro) 3)I'd hate to get in an accident (hear me kids?) Well I never thought I'd be driving such a inexpensive, optionless go-cart. That said, my metro (4door sedan, I-4 engine (the big one?!) 5 speed w/air) has been very good to me. I bought it w/10,000 mi in 97. Still under factory warranty, it developed a/citis! Condensor, evaporator, hoses, they kept changing parts (all under warranty) to the tune of about $850! At 60,000 mi the a/c stopped again! After a big fight w/GM they put a new compressor in free (worth $950) - and it still works terribly! But that's been the only major problem. Its got 100+k mi on it now with only about $200 worth of repairs outside routine maint. It is developing the following problems: 1)The radiator is plugging up internally. The plastic end caps have a coating inside that's peeling & plugging the holes, so on hot days the temp. starts rising. New rad.= $150.00 2)The fan switch is going. $? 3)Front end thunking around corners. Prob. CV joint. DIY=$75 Shop=$300-400? 4)headliner coming down. Spray glue= $5 Also, if you're looking at a used one mine is just starting to rust inside the doors (I figure 2-3 yrs before it gets visible) Enough mechanicals. The car: Is less of a sacrifice than I figured when I bought it. It does everything O.K. Thats handling (the back end wants to break loose on the highway if it's overloaded), power (w/ the 5 speed, barely, & the auto is slow), comfort (it was the cheapest car for the year sold, for crying out loud), and braking (brakes get reeeal mushy if it's overloaded). This car has saved me thousands of dollars. At $1.50 /gal gas I pay $8-9 a fillup & still go 300+ mi. Realtime gas mileage is well over 40mi/gal. I'm planning on keeping this super miser until the wheels fall off (hopefully not soon :) Similar Products Used: 1)76 lincoln mark 4 2)84, 87, & 90 grand marquis (best cars I've ever owned) 3)80 fiat X19 (handled like it was glued to pavement) 4)76 TR7 (fun, fun, fun!) all sorts of others!! Small I bought a brand new 97 Geo Metro. I loved the car. It got great milage and I only had one major repair in the 80,000 miles I had the car. Loved it so much I traded it in for a 2000 Cheve Metro! |

Weakness:
Cheap Plastic Interior, Very slippy during wet conditions. At first, I hated this car, but now I love it! Nobody can beat the amount of money I save on gas, maintance, and parts. I'm sure people laugh at me because I drive a Metro, but who are they to judge? "Nothing like being part of the crowd driving a Civic or SUV." I put a nice system in mine and installed hallogen lights for night-time driving. The car does sit low, so the lights don't shine very high/far. I can take turns better than most cars out there. In commuter driving, its not how fast you can go, its how well you can go. I never had a problem keeping up with the flow of traffic. Similar Products Used: N/A |

Price. Reliability. This car has been nothing but good to me. I have NEVER had a mechanical problem with it. I make sure she gets her regular oil changes and she makes sure I get to where I need to go. We have a beautiful relationship. I live in British Columbia, Canada. I have friends in Alberta...this means I have to drive over a fairly significant mountain range to go visit. (Ever hear of the Rockies?) If it''s just me in the car with an overnight bag, things are fine...Hell, you can''t drive fast through the Rogers Pass anyway! Put a second person in the car and more luggage and heaven help you when you get stuck behind one of those smelly cattle hauling rigs....UG! Might as well pull over for a while, enjoy the scenery and let that smelly rig get WAY ahead of you ''cause you will not be able to pass it...unless you''re going downhill. But, what can you expect? It is definitely a SMALL car. I''ve had this car for 6 years now. She has been very easy on my wallet. For someone looking for an excellent, reliable, inexpensive, SMALL car...a Geo Metro is the perfect choice. Oh ya...almost forgot this point: Not one spot of rust. The paint job is excellent. I''ve had to touch up a few tiny paint chips caused by other vehicles throwing rocks at me (I hate driving the highways around here in the spring after the snow has melted and all the gravel is laying around waiting to attack!) But having to touch up the paint has nothing to do with the paint job. It''s just part of life here no matter what type of vehicle you drive. |

Reliability, gas mileage, durability, if it is driven right the clutch lasts forever.
Weakness:
cheap materials, interior room, it needs some type of arm rest in the center up front, engine power I use this car mainly as a work car, and would not have anything but. This is my 4th metro (1989,1990,1991,1995).All were bought used except for the first one.The first one got 280,000 miles on it before it blew. Every other one got over 170,000 miles on it. When this one dies I plan to buy another one. It don''t look as though it will be soon. this one has 102,000 miles on it and is still strong. All have been manual transmissions which needed clutchs at around 140,000 miles. |

Weakness:
ungodly powerlessness cheap riding, car was falling apart I was thinking of buying one so I test drove a 94 for sale with 72k miles. Maybe it was just the condition of this particular vehicle but I was highly disappointed. This car felt like it has 172k miles! Felt very cheap, and brutally slow, crappy ride. Granted this car may have been in just really bad condition but it''s the only Metro I''ve driven. But I ended up spending a little more cash for a used Mazda Protege with a few less miles and it drove worlds better. Mpg will be more on the Metro I guess but not worth it to me.
