Strength:

Great gas mileage. Very reliable. Warms up quickly in the winter. Roomier than you'd think. Blind spots are small. I got into an accident that totalled the car but I walked away - 'nuff said.

Weakness:

No power I have tall friends that don't fit in it. Wind is an issue sometimes.

I love this car. I bought one 12/01, but it got into an accident - over $7000 worth of damage and all I had was a bit toungue. So I bought another. I figured if they're so safe, why not?

Strength:

Handling, gas mileage, it is really comfortable if you have short legs, unlike some of the midsize cars.

Weakness:

A/C Power

I absolutely love my metro. My air conditioner went out a long time ago, but besides that it has really been a good car. I get great gas mileage, it is very reliable, smooth shifting at 139000 miles. It handles surprisingly well in the snow! Oh, and I hit a giant deer this year at about 45 mph and I only got a dent in the hood and a broken blinker! This car has truly been a blessing. I recently bought a 1999 metro but will keep the other one. I just can't part with it.

Strength:

Great gas mileage, low insurance rate, inexpensive to operate in every aspect.

Weakness:

Very small now that I have 2 kids, rides rough and is noisy.

This was my first car and I was nervous that it wouldn't be reliable because it was little and cheap. It's been GREAT!!! 8+ years later it's still going strong with 87,000 miles. We've had to repair lots of little things here and there but every repair to this car is CHEAP!

Gas mileage Reliability (so far!) Price Good factory stereo (AM/FM cassette) Handling Tight Turning Radius

Weakness:

Power Some anxiety when driving amidst 18-wheelers & large SUV's

I like my Metro very well so far. I've had it 3 months, and sold a '96 Nissan Maxima in order to get it. The power and luxury of the Maxima were nice, but not worth the net $5k I was able to bank and add to the recent down-payment on my wife's and my new home, in addition to the $40/month savings on insurance and $30/month savings on gas. The Metro had been an insurance write-off due to some hail damage, so I bought it at about $3,400 under blue book value. I've gleefully averaged 40 mpg combined city/highway driving, and find the car to be reasonably comfortable driving 65-70 mph on the highway. Like other reviewers have pointed out, I definitely notice the cross-winds on the highway. I like the 5-speed transmission, and even though I've had some (much) faster cars in the past ('70 1/2 Camaro, '86 Mustang GT, '93 Mazda MX-6, then the Maxima), I agree with all the reviewers who find the Metro is fun to drive. Plus it turns and brakes on a dime, and can be parked just about anywhere. When I bought the car, there were a few small chips in the paint, on the hood and roof, some of which had some surface rust. I carefully (so as to not increase the size of the chips) sanded the rust off with some fine sand paper and touched up the paint no problem. The A/C has worked great so far; hopefully won't need to re-fill it after this winter but we'll see. I plan to change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles per the owners' manual, and expect to get 200k miles out of this car. One shortcoming I've found is with the lack of lower back support in the driver's seat. I fixed that with the purchase of a small pillow. This is a great car for daily commuting, and occasionally taking 3 other persons with you on short trips. If I feel the need to drive a luxury or sports car, I'll rent one for a day or weekend and get the "fix." Throughout the rest of the year, I'll enjoy having no car payment, minimal operating and maintenance costs, and having more money to save, invest, and give to worthy causes.

Strength:

Fit my credit rating--to buy it. Fit my budget--to pay for it. Fit my checkbook--for gas & insurance. Fits me and my son perfectly. Fits five average American adults easily! Fits in ANY parking space.

Weakness:

A month after the purchase, the brake light came on AND is still on! (Thankfully, I have not had any brake problems) 2. Every spring, the AC needs a refill. Cost about $30.00 (Hey, it's Louisiana. It's 85 degrees at 8am from March until November)

My first NEW car!!! Bought it myself. Knew it was dependable from a friend who changed his oil once a year and it still gave him over 270,000 miles!

Good gas mileage and not too powerful for my teenagers.

Weakness:

Window and it has had lots of trouble with the spark plugs and spark plug wires again 3+ visits to the dealer

The very first time I drove this car the air conditioner quit working (July in Tennessee) and the driver's window after being rolled down would not roll back up. Went back to shop the next day. I bought this car for my teenage daughter. I have to say that it is still running but the window still isn't fixed (after six trips to the dealer). I'm glad it was cheap!!!!

Strength:

best gas milage-especially on freeway. the 5 speed is great in mountain areas, freeways, etc.As far as performance and gas I love it!

Weakness:

A/C is biggest problem-every year I have to take it in-no one knows WHAT the problem is.First it was a leak and they put the dye in-they could NEVER find the leak. Then the next year claimed it was the A/C DOOR that kept locking up-replaced that-worked a while-then same thing.I even explained to them that once you use the HEATING unit in winter, come spring the A/C messes up again-need to do a study on it-some connection there.Once your warrantee runs out your A/C is gone unless you want to spend $$$$ fixing it or putting a new unit in.everyone with a Metro I know has the same problem. Also coming back from Arizona to calif the winds were bad and this car is so light it does go all over the road-either put some cat litter bags in the back or stay to the low side of the freeway. This car DOES do great in a small snowfall-passes everyone on the road.

i love the metro and would upgrade to a new one if they made them anymore and if they fixed some common problems-like the A/C
