Strength:
engine, rides smooth, nice and roomy, safe and big..
Weakness:
makes weird noise in front, engine fan is being mysterious.. The chey lumina is a great car I have had 2 of them.. they do have some quirks but the engine can never die.. the 91 I had went through brakes like crazy. The 98 there is a strange noise from the front but at 140,000 it still going strong,, nice ride.. normal things that go like brakes and tires but one strange thing is the temperature gauge goes up then goes back down and one engine fan doesnot come on so we are trouble shooting that.. but overall this is the best car chevy has bulit in a long time.. has anyone noticed if their car was bulit in canada. mine was. maybe the people wh bulit the ones that are having the problems where were they bulit? lets have a census.. Lumina
Strength:
Gives a very safe feeling. Good acceleration. Great air conditioning. Respectable gas mileage. Very roomy.
Weakness:
Loud engine. Poor trunk hinge design. Poor brakes/braking distance. Overall not happy with this car. Purchased for real estate, traded in '94 Ford Escort. Really miss my Escort. Only have 42k miles on Lumina. Had in to dealer for clicking noise in front wheels 3 times. They gave me 3 different reasons for the noise, yet never fixed the issue. Engine is very loud. Brakes are horrible. Constant squeel in brakes, dry or wet. Trunk hinges are poorly designed - can't fit nearly as much in truck as it seems due to how low the hinges swing down. On a more positive note, I feel very safe in the car. Most of the issues I have are with annoying noises, not so much performance. Car has nice get-up-and-go. I am fairly satisfied with the gas mileage I get for its size. Air conditioning really cools things down quick. Car is very roomy. Similar Products Used: This is my first midsize/fullsize vehicle. |

Strength:
AC is excellent even in 120 degree phoenix heat, comfortable cruiser, trunk is big enough to fit a whole house and a bag of chips, powertrain is extremely reliable and adequately powerful, interior is simple yet practical.
Weakness:
CUPHOLDERS! Brakes and tires need replacing more often than most, seats go soft quickly after 12 hour drives, original fans SUCK! Replaced them with high performance units-works GREAT! Body trims keep falling off- took em off and left it for the monochromatic look. GREAT car! I put 117,000 miles on mine in a year with nearly no problems. Cruises at 80 with flying colors. Cant stop admiring the take off and midrange punch. Currently has 276,000 miles on original engine, soon to be replaced with a '99 GTP supercharged 3.8 v6. Strength:
good gas millage
Weakness:
two Valves EGR replaced in two years We are the original owners and had to replace the EGR Value twice in two years. The mechanics keep telling us that it is the gas. I hear a ticking noise and they keep telling me that it is the way the car runs. Gas millage is good in summer. The doors do freeze in winter sometimes when it thaws and then freezes. Less than 50,000 miles. Has anyone else had this problem and does the gas make the difference. |

euro 3.1
Strength:
Very comfortable for a cheap car. Instruments are laid out in a user friendly style. The 3.1 gets great mileage for a car of this size and has a fair amount of power. Will easily cruise at 80 MPH all day long.
Weakness:
I've had to replace the distributer filler hole plug twice. This seems to be a problem on the 3.1. The trunk leaks water, but this is because of body panel seems on the top of the quarter panels. Put some clear silicon over these and this should stop the leak. The brake pedal has always been harder to push than on most every other car I've ever owned. Due in part to the poor design of the rear brake calipers. Torque coverter will stay locked up sometime when coming to a stop. Could be two things wrong here. It either needs a new torque converter selenoid or a new torque converter. If you just unplug the wire leading into the transmission on the front, the lock up feature will be dissabled and will not lock up at any speed. Easy fix, if you don't want to fix it. Gas mileage will not be that greatly effected either. Still get 28 mpg with mine disconnected. For what I paid for this car, I have more than got my monies worth out of it. I bought it with 104k and it now has 172k. My Lumina has been a very reliable car. Oh yeah, I've had to replace basic things, but the repairs and parts are cheap. If you find a nice used one, keep it maintained and don't abuse the hell out of it, this car will last you a long time. |

power, handling, cheap car, roomy, very dependable, nice trunk room and interior room, shifts great as long as you keep the filter clean.
Weakness:
cupholders, brakes are weird, trunk lid holders in the way, tires are expensive because of size, battery in a real sucky place, other than minor stuff nothing. oh ya weak battery cables. overall this is a great car. i have taken it out of state many of times and never had worries. very roomy i have three kids 2 in car seats and still pleanty of room in the back seat. great power, shifts nice, great a/c system electric fan sensor sucks, cupholder sucks, and the brakes suck. other than that a wonderful very dependable car. would recomend it to anyone. Strength:
reliable, comfortable to drive
Weakness:
tick when cold, paint comes off wheel well lips/rocker panels, trunk hinges intrusive reducing trunk room, kind of a pain to get in and out of for me (5'11"). Pretty comfortable and reliable car. Has a tick from engine when cold that goes away when warm, though it's gotten louder since I've owned it...I've had 2 mechanics tell me it is a flaw with 3100 engines, something about the valve guides? Also replaced alternator, battery, front brakes and tires...but I'd expect that in 3 years of driving. Now starting to show rust on rocker panels and inside trunk. Lumina LS
Strength:
Great power from an only slightly whiny V6, GREAT gas mileage for it's size/weight/age, big tires and good ground clearance. So far very few problems except those (big ones) lited in the weaknesses...
Weakness:
The entire intake manifold needed replacing almost immediately after purchase (about a thousand dollar job), and also the rear wheel cylinders began leaking fluid. The tires need more frequent replacing than other similar cars, and the paint job is less than poor (I have white paint, which yellowed in two random spots on trunk lid and roof, and the bumper paint is cracking off in several places.) I've also had some alternator problems, which seem to be more than common with the car. A fairly sound, fairly comfortably, fairly fair car with a few major kinks. |

chevy lumina euro sport 3.1
Strength:
fast, lots of room, good pickup, great heat
Weakness:
the 1200 charcter limit wont suffice. I hear alot about lumina being reliable but I cannt stress enough that mine WAS NOT This car gave me hell. It stalled and wouldnt start the first day I had it. Not to mention I bought it with only 55,000 miles. The stalling problem never went away depsite numerous check ups at the place where I bought it. It also did this weird thing where the spedometor either didnt work or went back and forth from 0-80. I will admit it was faster than most cars it's age...but when idle it would stall. Numerous problems with the brakes, starter, accelerator, horn, oxygen sensor,no AC or cupholders and this thing chugged oil. I ended up paying more than I bought for it in repairs. |

Strength:
engine, smooth ride, fuel economy
Weakness:
brakes that wear out too fast, trim that keeps falling off, and the stupid washer hoses on the wipers, they keep freezing no mater what I do not a bad car, great on the highway. I have put on 150,000KM on it and it has yet to break down. Wish I could say the same for the trim though, things keep falling off, I guess that is where GM saved money. See a lot of Lumina taxis, cabbies do know how to find the models that are cheap to operate Similar Products Used: 94 Taurus, good engine, bad tranny |
