Chevrolet Geo Storm Midsize | Compact

Chevrolet Geo Storm Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Geo Storm was a sport compact car manufactured by Isuzu and sold in the United States by General Motors from 1990 through 1993 as part of GM's Geo line of inexpensive automobiles. The Geo Storm was a rebadged version of the sporty Isuzu Impulse minus some of that car's more expensive features. Slow sales of the Isuzu version doomed the Storm as when the Isuzu Impulse was canceled, the Geo Storm derivative had nothing to be built from, meaning both cars were discontinued in 1993.

Strength:

Easy to park and turn around in small places, Cheap to fix, roomy trunk, big, comfortable front seats, picks up speed fast, usaully cheap to purchase, great on gas.

Weakness:

Small back seats, overheats easily, shakes when you go over 100mph.

I love this car! It's so dependible and easy to take care of.

Strength:

Gas milage is great, looks and a/c blows ice, not a quitter , has never had major mechanical problems, the dashboard impecable is all about giving it some conditioner once in a while.Great handling and powerful enough to get you out enjoying the ride.

Weakness:

We all agree that the back seat is a major issue here but, whoever drives a Storm really doesn't need anybode in the back ,it is a ports coupe after all (ask guys with Miatas or BMW roadsters), hard to find parts, and some of them quite expensive. interior light turns on by itself when weather turns very cold.

I would say that this is an extremely good car (if you take good care of it), i bought it off the showroom and never gave any problems up until now (she is at 125 000 mi), kind of hesitates now when a/c on. great gas milage and good overall performance

Strength:

Good price. Great mileage. Fast. Decent sound system. Low maintainance - except for tires (see below). Has always been a reliable, and comfortable little commuter. Easy to work on.

Weakness:

I don't know why, but the alloy rims have ALWAYS sucked! Especially in the last 4 years or so. I have to put air in the tires (even new ones) at least once a week - sometimes more often depending on the outside temperature. Like so many have already said - no cup holders and useless back seat for passengers. After ten years, the muffler finally went as well as the connecting exhaust linkage to the engine. Had it replaced, but it is still not right and won't pass inspection. Had similar problems with the c/v joints and struts and boots and such - but that is expected after 10 years. This year was also the year for the doors to fall apart. My key won't work in the driver side door or the hatchback. It only works in the passenger door - but now the passenger door won't open! So that sucks. The inside, driver door handle linkage went early this year, but a trip to the junk yard solved that problem.

I have had my Storm for over 10 years. I bought it new in the summer of 1991 when my Dodge Daytona blew up on the way to see the movie Robin Hood. I gimped my smoking Daytona into a nearby Chevy dealership and said "My car blew up - I need a new one". Traded the Daytona for $800, and drove out with my new Storm in time to catch the next show! I love this car. It has always been very dependable, though she is now starting to show her age and performance is going down. I have not had to do any major repairs in 10 years, but have had to replace many tires more than usual. The A/C has always been very cool, and heats up pretty quick in the Winter. It has always been funny to watch people try to figure out how to get into the car - looking for the handle.

Strength:

Very reliable in hot or cold weather. Roomy front seats. Very powerful for a 1.8L. Good a/c. Excellent gas mileage. Very easy to modify. Sporty design. Mine is quite a head turner. Easy to manuever is tight spaces e.i. parallel parking. Has 121,000 miles and still running. Only had one repair (timing belt).

Weakness:

Sluggish response when running hot or when the a/c is on or when there is more than one person in the car. It makes this awful whining sound when it gets hot, almost like it's supercharged but runs completely opposite. My factory spoiler is turning a pale red due to sun exposure.

The Storm is my first car. It runs the same as it did 4 years ago when I bought it. The back seat is tiny but the front seats compensate for that. Great gas mileage, and a sporty design. I wish they still manufactured them.

I never drove anything like it. Definitely one of a kind.

NOT MANY

Weakness:

DOOR HANDLES, BACK SEAT, VIBRATION, STRUTS. MORE THAN I CARE TO SHARE.

WHEN I FIRST PURCASHED CAR IT WAS BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR VIBRATION. NEVER DID SOLVE THAT PROBLEM. LEARNED TO LIVE WITH IT. NOW IT HAS AN ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD IT TO THREE AUTO SERVICES, TWO WERE RECOMMEDED BY FRIENDS. THE CARS ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR LOOSES POWER AND DIES IN TRAFFIC. ONLY TO START RIGHT BACK UP DRIVE A FEW MILES AND IT REPEATS THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD A TIMMING BELT, TWICE! A COMPLETE TUNEUP. NOW IT IS A CHEV DEALER, RECEIVED A NEW BRAIN. GOT IN IT THIS MORNING, DROVE APPROX 4 MILES, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR LOST ALL POWER. SURE DID NOT MAKE MY DAY. WONDER IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS TYPE O PROBLEM AND WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW YOU GOT IT FIXED.

READY TO TRADE IN.

Alot of potential to look better "down with Honda " who wants 2B like everyone else? The body styling of the storm is sweet ,The dash is brilliant! I love the way the car is going to look as a "CONVERT" thanks to my buddy "J" who knows autobody and welding

Weakness:

wind shield wipes suck! fogging up after just 2 mins of making out with someone sucks! Rad over heats! Stock shocks and struts !LOUD!And clonky engine sounds like a german engine. the way the head lights look on the car.

my girlfriend wants and likes it thats why i got it.I turned down buying a MR2 for the same price I've owned alot of vehicles before I'm usally a jeep guy or at least a CRX owner sporty type cars leave the best impressions So when I bought my "GEO" I was hesitant. Nobody knows what the hell kind of car it is! But I like it ! Its ALOT less noisy compared to an MR2 and just as reliable as my CRX was and sporty. Its alot more fuel "eco" than the v8 that was in my jeep. So in short I think i'll keep my little red bastard of the car world. And incase anyone is wondering how to solve that retarded back seat problem I'm turning mine into a convertable and loading up the xtra room with a huge "SUB BOX" ask your friends and loved ones if they think your car would look good as a "RAG TOP" after I'M done I will put it on the net for the whole world to see with all the 'SPECS"

Strength:

Cheap gas/good gas milage, cute little car, I can't complain too much after all I've been through with this car, cuz overall, it's gotten me where I wanna go, when I wanna go.

Weakness:

Paint job isn't too great, but what do u expect from an early 90's model, expensive to take into shop to repair, weird spark plug configuration, (when my BF did a tune up on my car he'd never seen anything like it...he doesn't like the car anyway....) I'm saving up for a better car anyhow!

The Car is definitly one of a kind, I'd never seen anything like it before. The car was/is my first car and was tough at first learning the stick shift b/c of the high clutch, but now any other stick shift is a piece of cake compared!
