Strength:

Ecotec 2.2 engine.

Weakness:

Ride is a little noisy.

I have owned Cavaliers all my life. Of the 3, 1 was a lemon. Had multiple problems with it, a testament to GM's lagging in the market.

The 2002 Cavalier LS has been the best yet. What makes the difference and it is a major plus is the LS version comes with the 2.2 Ecotec engine made by Powertrain. My advice is if you are buying one of these cars make sure it comes with this engine. It makes a big difference.

Strength:

amazingly good on gas.

Weakness:

too many to list.

The car is a nightmare, i have had no end to the problems. I have not only done the breaks,& water pump, but now it needs the heater/air fixed, master slave cylinder done, the engine is leaking oil, and it needs a new clutch. I don't think these cars hold up well at all. The moldings have all come loose and one has completely fallen off. I am disgusted with this car and would never buy another one.

Model Reviewed: Cavalier 2 dr. Coupe (VL)

Strength:

At 6900 $CDN, the price is more then right. There high depriciation make them a prime choice if your on the buyers end. The Echotech 2.2L engine is modern and offers alot of pep. The 5 speed manual transmission is solid however the clunkyness of the gear box makes it a pain at first (1st and 3rd are too close together).

Weakness:

The breaks on this car are pre-historic and have no stopping power and the optional ABS shakes and rattels at the slightest of taps (thats why i opted out of buying them. The car's main weakness is the craftsmanship and quality of the materials used in the interior. Being in a Cavalier feels like being in a tupperware container. The plastics are EXTREMELY low grade and the car seems to have been assembled by some wanabe handy man. The tires are small and make winter driving a pain and fuel economy is disapointing in contrast to manny japanese products on the market. All in all, not a bad car but if you can afford to pay a litle more, opt for a Corolla or Civic.

The Chevy Cavalier seems to have establish itself as the hot dog of the automotive world. Cheap, garnishable, a good source of heartburn it seems to leave abit of an after taste. None the less Cavaliers still sell like hot cakes and GM can thank its marketing team for that.

Small car

Weakness:

Gas mileage, pick up speed, window motors

I bought this vehicle 2 years ago with 24,000 miles on it and have been very disappointed in it. I only get 25 mpg, if I am lucky. For a car this small, I would expect better gas mileage, especially with it being at $3.00 per gallon. The pick up speed is not good at all! I have had this vehicle in too many times to count to be either fixed or painted up. The front two windows motors had to be replaced, the bottoms of all the doors had to be repainted because rust had settled in on it and worst of all I had to take it in and have the air conditioner looked at and worked on because it was making noises. I am very disappointed mostly with the gas mileage with this vehicle. This vehicle is not worth the money. I would advise people to pay the extra money on a Honda instead.

Strength:

Good looks, speed, gas mileage, value for the money, sound system, cool interior, cool dome light (it fades when it goes out, instead of just going out all at once), smells really good even without an air freshener.

Weakness:

Temp. gauge and Tachometer have some serious issues.

I LOVE MY CAR! It's a really sporty looking car for a low price, and it gets great gas mileage. It's also VERY fast for a 4-cylinder, and easy to get around in. The interior shows true GM craftsmanship, and- as strange as it may sound- smells really good. Oh yeah, and the sound system ROCKS!!! If Chevy hadn't quit making these cars, I would drive one till the day I died.

This car is definately a good buy, great on gas, small, fast , affordable. One thing i love about it cavalier is the peppiness(4 speed automatic), very fast. Great a/c and sound system. One bad thing on them though is the mufflers seem to give out on all cavaliers after a while, but just take it and get the hole patched for about $77 and its good to go, also the cupholders suck. But at 89,000 miles its still going strong. For a first car I'm completely satisfied as anyone should be, its a good car for the money.

Strength:

3.1 V6 engine, fold down back seat, gas mileage (25-30mpg), reliability, front wheel drive (powers through snow with ease, inexpensive, life of car, (I could go on and on...)

Weakness:

Slight rust spots forming on rocker panels (I guess this is typical for the cavaliers)(I think the body will wear out before the engine and mechanics do)

Awesome car. I've had nothing but success and life out of this car. It has never left me stranded and only required the usual maintenance work (oil & filter changes every 3000 mi etc.). Its running strong in its old age with 205k miles. I purchased it with 120K. I should tell you the engine is original but not the usual 2.2L instead this car is equipped with the 3.1 multi-port V6. One of the best engines I've ever had. Beautiful acceleration w/ or wo/ 4 or more people in the car...(it was my college car that is now my work vehicle) I drive it everyday!! I've taken it from the east side to the west side of the US 3 times putting over 3500 miles on one way through the hot states such as NM and AZ several times now. I LOVE this car!!!
