Strength:
3.8 V6 is very powerful with great acceleration off the line, as well as great power through all ranges. The styling is nice, it's conservative and sharp looking (although was due for an external appearance update which it was given in the next model year).
Weakness:
This car has a light on the dash to indicate low traction, but NO traction control????????! When I'm spinning around doing 360's you need not bother telling me I have no traction. My wife had a 1989 Buick Skylark which was a fantastic car... until I broke it. We found the 1996 Regal at a dealership with about 55,000kms on it and 2 years old. The looks caught my eye when I first saw it. The chrome panel along with a spoiler in the back made the exterior look very "elegant". The interior was also very attractive. It has red leather with a fake wood grain dash. With it's 3800 v6 engine, this car could pick up speed alot better than it looks. It's great to see the look on certain people's faces when they see that a Buick just beat thier sportier looking newer model car!
Weakness:
When I baught this car, it had 95k on it. I thought I was getting a raw deal on it. My mistake. It now has 118k on it after a year (I drive alot) and I think I have spent about as much on repairs as I did on the car itself! It's had two brake jobs on it, the tires have been replaced and it looks like its due for another replacement, I got a new battery for it because it wouldn't start on really, really cold days in the winter, the front end alignment, and a few other minor repairs. Also the suspension is all messed up but I don't really feel like spending all that money to get that fixed. I'm only 19 years old and a college student. Money doesn't come easy for me these days. This car pretty much made me broke--enough said. In just over one year of owning this car, I have spent too much in very costly repairs. Maybe it's just old but I know this car has seen better days. Similar Products Used: This is my second car. My first was a 1988 Grand Prix. That car had alot more miles on it and it seemed to last a lot longer than this car has. I had that one for over 2 years with minimal problems. |

Strength:
Supercharged engine is incredible, seats are very comfortable, extremely quiet inside, huge trunk, roomy interior, good on gas as long as you don't drive too hard.
Weakness:
Suspension is a little soft, brakes suck, all that power should be driving the rear wheels. '99 GS. For the same price, you get way more than accord, camry, or the maxima. This GM Buyback had leather, Dual-zone automatic climate control, stereo controls on the steering wheel, headlights that automatically come on when its dark, power and heated front buckets, one-touch windows, traction control (a must with 240hp), onstar, power sunroof, power-heated-dimming mirrors, and the list goes on. Go to your GM dealer, test drive a GS with the 3800 SC, find a nice long straight, and floor it. You'll be convinced. |

Great Power for a 2.8 v6. Excellent Top speed (130 mph) Hums nicely on the highway. Blew away a 2000 contour sport. Great gas milage. Very roomy. Huge trunk. Great handling in snow and rain. Sleek style. Easy to upgrade anything. Easily acsessible speakers for replacement. Very roomy for a 2 door. Fits 3 people easy in the back. Unbelievably excellent engine. I bought it with 132000 and now it has 14000 and it is running better than ever. This car puts out heavy power top speed.
Weakness:
No acceloration untill 3rd gear. Leaky trunk. Little room to work with under the hood. Power window went. AC went. CC went. Original Delco stereo system was terrible. Replaced with Jensen and Rockford Fosgate and it kicks now. This car has had it's ups and downs. I bought it knowing the the air conditioning and window was broken. I later found out that the other window and the cruise control doesn't work either. This car has no acceloration until 3rd gear where the power comes in. I had this baby hummin at 130 mph with no problem. No over heating. Nothing. She's been a fantastic first car. I fix everything myself but I can imagine how expensive everything would have been if I hadn't. I would reccomend this to any teen looking for a great looker with a little power and a do it yourselfer. Especially for a cheap price. Similar Products Used: 1993 Grand Prix. |

Nice looking car.
Weakness:
Spend over $400 in the past three years due to broken throttle cable. Very dangerous, the cable breaks and you are without acceleration. It seems that a cable is due every 33,000 miles. Engine jets (all six) had to be replaced at 76,000 miles. Very expensive to maintain. Since my Buick has had three different throttle cables with less than 100,000 miles, I feel that I should be reimburse. So far, every 33,000, I have spent money to replace the throttle cable, not to mention the pill charge. Similar Products Used: My Japanese cars cost less, have more miles, and have never incurred the expenses like my 1996 Buick. |

Strength:
Decent highway ride, pretty comfortable seats on a long drive. As long as the highway is straight, it speeds along nicely.
Weakness:
Where do I start?? The Monsoon Audio system..it sucks. VERY poor interior quality, cheap leather, poor assembly work. No suspension, no handling, poor tires, especially with a turbo sharged V6. Very confusing climate controls. Well, my grandmother bought this car, and since she is elderly, I drive it all the time for her. This car overall is the pits. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord. Strength:
Very fast and powerful. Smells nice. Does cool doughnuts in the snow. It can outrun most small animals,(once chased down by a chihuahua that bit a hole in my tire.) Comfort of an old peoples' car with pimpin' good looks. Great downhill race car and handles well on logging or other offroad trails.
Weakness:
Leaks coolant, burns oil, mushy suspention. Needs endless repairs such as water pump, alternator, brake rotors, control module. Ramping off bridges will tear off your catalitic converter heat shield. Stiff gas pedal front end tears up easy when you hit things. It's the greatest car I've ever owned. It almost always gets me where I want to go. This car has a borderline personality, it gets very jealous when I look at other cars. In fact, the majority of the times that breaks down is because I ignore or neglect it and has nothing to do with the way that I drive. The largest reason I give this car a high rating is because it looks mean if you park it with the wheels turned and cute if you leave them straight. leather could be of better quality.thats about it. I loved this car since the first day i drove off the lot with it.The 280 foot pounds of torqe is almost neck snapping. For a six this car has a great amount of power and great gas milage. This car is definitley the sleeper of the 90's.I recomend this car to both young and the older crowd. Strength:
The Regal is OK. I'd driven a Pontiac Bonneville for 6 years before purchasing the Regal and overall I liked the Bonneville better. The Regal has a nice interior (bad cup holders)
Weakness:
The ride is fair and the interior noise is terrible for Buick. The car makes some very strange noises when you hit a bad bump or pot hole - sort of echoes. I do have the touring suspension which may account for part of the problem. I changed out the tires for Michelin X's, but it didn't seem to improve the ride. Based on my expierence to date it will be back to the Bonneville next time. Similar Products Used: Pontiac Bonneville, Cutlass Supreme LS (Both were nicer cars all around) |
