Strength:

Despite what others say, this is extremely reliable.

It gets my friends and I around in cold air-conditioning.

Very smooth ride.

Big trunk, with hidden full spare tire

Weakness:

It originally came with only an AM/FM radio. I dropped a cd player in there and it sounds great. The factory speakers are superb, no clue why they put that crappy radio in there.

Ash tray rattles, but nothing duct-tape can't fix! (can even see the tape)

Driver's side lock rattles, but is an easy 2 screw-tightening to fix.

I needed to get new brakes, battery, and the headliner fixed cause it was hanging down blocking my rear view mirror. Other than those annoyances, there hasn't been another problem with it.

I paid $1200 - an excellent steal. I definately reccommend it. Who cares about going from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds? This car doesn't attract cops. I speed all the time, and was only stopped once.

Strength:

Grandpa ride (i.e. smooth and bouncy), Comfortable with lots of features, Simplicity of interior controls (radio, gauge), Large trunk, Roomy, Sturdy and Strong, Almost no mechanical problems. Looks great, Great visibility all around (blind spot, rear window).

Weakness:

Handling not that great (it is not a sports car, I know, but it could be a little stiffer on sharp turns, etc.), Engine is a bit weak for a V6, but I think it's because of the weight of the car. Automatic transmission is jumpy between 3rd and 4th gear (around 43mph). The humid summers in New York made the headliner loose off the ceiling and it now sags. Same thing happend to my '84 Buick Regal when we brought that out from California to New York: the headliner came off the ceiling...

$3000 used in 1997 in California (with ~110K miles on it). California car (i.e. no humid summers, no snowy winters with road salt and crap) until 1997 when I brought it out to New York. I change my own oil and coolant fluid. I almost never do any maintenance on this car. It is VERY RELIABLE and comfortable as your grandpa's Buick. Wait a minute, this *IS* your grandpa's Buick! ha ha.

Nothing exciting or sporty or whatever, but I'm a young guy (24 y.o.) who like old-men's cars: big sedans with cushy, Cadillac-like rides. 1. Because it keeps my insurance rates low (i'm in the highest-risk, highest-paying insurance group even though i've never been in an accident since i started driving), 2. I'm never a target for cops looking for young men in flashy sports cars, and 3. I'm never a target for car thieves cos frankly, who the hell wants to steal a bland 12-year old Buick sedan? Great commute car and for "cruising" the roads. I would modify this car (better audio, new rims and wheels, fog lights, spoiler, etc), but I decided it's not worth my money, and I should save up for a new car instead.

If you find a used one and comfort and reliability is top on your list, give this car a drive. I'd actually recommend the 1989 model (one year after this one), b/c it comes with driver's airbag and is a bit more curvy in exterior design.

3300 motor full of power! Wife calls it the Silver Bullet.
Not a cop magnet. Nice styling for `89. Decent sounding stereo for being stock.

Weakness:

Had air conditioner problems 2 times. 1st time Dealer paid 2nd time we paid (4 yrs later)Had power window problems twice. All in all not to hard to maintain.

This has been our best vehicle to date!
190,000 miles and still going. Getting scared even though motor seems strong...it's had a lot of hard driving for a 6 banger. Looking at new Buicks and hoping to have repeat luck.

Strength:

Good highway car, acceleration, trunk size, overall simplicity.

Weakness:

"ABS" brakes lock up, rattle in the left front that the dealer can't find, air conditioner flow is difficult to adjust, wipers cause water to flow to interior if driver's window is cracked open, no pass-through from trunk.

Good price but wouldn't recommend it because of brake and rattle problems.

3.3 V6 gives 160hp and 185torque which gets this car flying off the line.
AC is great and always cold. Seats 6, but I'd say 5 since I don't allow 3 in the front. Almost no trouble at 60k miles. Alternator died at 50k.
Great for racing honda civics (not Si) and other import cars with low torque and hp.

Weakness:

This car can suck gas if you're heavy on the accel like I am. It gets 26/17 or so when I'm lighter on the gas. Doesn't handle well, but thats to be expected because of the cushy ride. NO CUP HOLDERS!!!!!! Worst thing for me. No information given except for gas and speed. Only idiot lights, so you never know when things are going wrong until they do.

I've only had the one problem with the alternator at 55k miles. I replaced the belt because it looked worn. I just check the fluids, keep the tires good and the car seems to go forever.

Strength:

*Doesn't burn a drop of oil, even with 150,800 miles on the clock.
*Soft ride, nice seats, very quiet
*Tight brakes

Weakness:

*Horrible handling
*Rough transmission
*Poor steering ratio

The 2.8 60-degree V6, 2 bbl carb setup isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The transmission is getting tired at 150K, but still manages to get the job done. The body of the car is surprisingly holding up alright despite what I've seen in some other same-year Buicks. This car was maintained well, so I've been trying to keep it running strong. Hasn't burned a drop of oil since I've owned it. The carb chugs depending on the weather, but opens right up when you floor it. Overall, it's been good so far. I'm curious to see exactly how many miles I can get out of the 2.8 V6 in this car.

3.3 V6 is strong but gets good fuel mileage.
117,000 miles and no major repairs.
Seats 4 to 5 adults in confort.
Large trunk
Engine easy to work on.

Weakness:

None
Everything but one power window switch still works.
Radio/Cass player work part time.

Has been a great basic car.
Sold the Madza and purchased this car because the kids were learing to drive. Wanted something with a little more sheet metal and an auto trans. Purchased with 85,000 miles, now have 117,000 miles and other than oil changes have only had to replace the rear brake cyc and front brake pads.
CV joints will need to be replaced in the next 6 months to a year.
Very easy on tires for a front wheel drive.
If your looking for a dependable car and don't mind that your Granparents aprove of it this is the car for you.

Strength:

-great gas milage
-big trunk
-strong 2.5 engine
-tons of room
-soft seats
-descent radio
-hot heater

Weakness:

no complaints

I just purchased my Buick about 6 months ago, from my uncle. The car had only 75k on it. I first noticed anti-freeze on passenger carpet, leaky heater core. I had a shop class in school and got it fixed. It wasn't too hard, just took some time (which I had). It gets good gas milage about 25 mixed city and highway. It's no camaro, but the cops don't really stop to look at old grandma cars, so that's good. Insurance rates are kindy pricey, but that's because I am a 17 year old male. Some of my friends with high performance engines pay a lot more(for gas too). There is a litte rust coming through the doors but I will fix that in Auto Body. Overall this is a great first car for me. It hauls me and my friends real nice. I'll probably have it for a while, but I really like it. I would realy recommend it.

My Gosh this thing works like a powerhorse the trans shifts like it ain't no thang!! Ya know and of course that's probably only because I got this car when it had 17k on it now it has 42k miles

Weakness:

I've had to replace the compressor for the ac along with a new water reserve, windshield washer reserve, computer, struts, tune up, fixing to have to replace the front left axle due to clicking sound when making right hand turn.

This car gets me from point A to point B otherwise it makes you really appreciate other peoples cars better because your ready to get rid of this one.

*Rust/Paint Chip

I just bought it a week ago. So far no complaints except rust is being to form on the bottom of the doors, and roof. Also the paint has completley chipped off the hood and roof and Is starting to on the sides and trunk. Other than a paint job its great. I was suprised in how good the sound system was for a 88'. Is the perfect "First Car"
