Buick Century Custom
Strength:
Nice ride, sleek appearance, dependable.
Weakness:
Knocking engine, not too great of mileage for a 3.1. Probably the nicest car I've ever owned. Bought new in 2001. Only thing that bothers me about it is that not long after I got it the engine started knocking (do all regular services etc). The engine knocking has gotten louder ever since, loud on cold, wet days, and even one just average days. Overall good car, no other trouble. Strength:
Good acceleration from the go. Classy. Can be head turning - rims/sound/exhaust replaced. Cold AC - important in Texas. Reliable and dependable. Doesn't attract Cops. I can sell it and buy a Cadillac STS :)
Weakness:
Stock Sound system get really farty when turned up. Rear tail-lights kinda ugly. Stereotyped as a granny mobile. I bought this car with 48k on it and it runs like new. The 3.1 gets you where you are going with minimum trouble - kinda chugs when you accelerate at 70 though. I Just got 17" rims and Forza-flow exhaust put in. I laugh so hard when people turn heads expecting a stang or camaro, and they see a buick that sounds like one. Similar Products Used: None really. |

Strength:
The 2000 Buick Century Limited has a good ride and good leather seats. The 3.1 V6 appears to run well and is economical.
Weakness:
The auto. trans went out with only 22,700 miles on the vehicle. Dealer says valve body, solenoid to lock-up convertor, etc. cost to me is over $600. Dealer will not pay under the 3,000 mile 90 day warranty even tho the problem occurred within the time frame of both. GM vehicles are notorious for lock-up convertor problems. Do not under any circumstances buy a "Certified Factory Program Vehicle!" They are a joke. My 2000 Buick had not received a 110 point rigid inspection. The oil and filter and air filter were not even changed.............. Do not buy "Factory Certified ' Similar Products Used: 97 Olds Cutlass supreme gave the same trans. problem at 85,000 and again at about 95,000 |

No recalll notices that I've found. Overall nice riding car. Similar Products Used: older vehicles, which are better because you don't expect so much from them |

Strength:
Reliable, comfortable, roomy. Good value. Quality of upholstery is remarkable.
Weakness:
Did have to have air conditioner work done at less than 200,000 miles. Has a oil leak; but hoping Lucas will help with that. Original paint job wasn't too hot - don't really know the story on that. Car does look kinda rough; but has received very little attention. Had 64,000 mi when purchased. It had been a company lease car. Now has 359,300 mi. Extremely reliable. Original engine and transmission. Have had very few repairs. My next car will probably be a Century. I would like to drive it to 400,000, but I believe the transmission is slipping a little. But certainly can't complain. Have not taken the greatest of care. Similar Products Used: Older model Century - extremely reliable. Neighbor begged to buy it at greater than book value. Sold it to him and got the 87. |

Strength:
Standard equipment offered is excellent. The V6 engine, automatic headlights and programable features such as door locks.
Weakness:
Parking brake is poorly designed, engine noise at acceleration is noisy, seating support and armrest design could be improved. The best car I have owned from a reliability standpoint. I have driven the car 82,000 miles. The only problem was at 71,000 miles when the engine developed a small oil leak, which I had repaired. I think the Century is an excellent value. Strength:
Wonderful ride, great gas milege.
Weakness:
The hardware in this model is falling apart before my very eyes. I don't know what is going on at the manufacure but they are slacking in the quality of their parts. Not only has one of my window motor units gone out but three have quit working. Two in the same day. My winshield wiper motor also has quit working. All of this has happened within two months. The replacement cost is outrageous. I get little sympathy from the dealer where I purchased the car. I am awaiting a call from the manufacturer. This is the third century I have owned and have never encountered problems like these before. I am highly dishearted. |

Strength:
when serviced regularly,it will do whats expected if this is a type of car you want.
Weakness:
the only problem with the car is the 2.5 liter engine. it never should even been considered as an option.too slow!! a really nice car. i had no major problems. only the 2.5 eng. a non-performing mistake, would be the only thing i would change. the v-6 should,ve been the only option. well, for $200.00 why complain? i,m still driving it! Buick Century
Strength:
- Reliable (well it was anyway) - Engine compartment is very roomy - Very roomy car - Decent gas mileage (hey my last car was a Grand Marquis) - I got a good deal on the car initially. - Great if you don't like to pay too much for insurance. - Very Reliable Engine - Supersmooth ride
Weakness:
- Too Easy To Steal - Throttle controls messed up at 120,000 miles, idles at about 3000 RPM, 25MPH IDLE SPEED!!! Replaced everything my mechanic told me to, still idles way too high. - Not a chic-magnet - A short circuit mysteriously appeared and no one can find it, I've been to 3 mechanics and none of them can find it, my battery goes dead every night because of this. - Transmission(auto) feels like it's about to rip out of the car every time I shift it. - Factory soundsystem kept on fading in and out, and for some reason the tuner always stops at 99.1 FM and won't go any higher, even if the display says it's higher. -Strange looking wheels. Well, for the first 3 months I had it, it was a greeeat car. No problems at all. Then, month 4 came. I don't really attribute these problems to the manufacturer or the person that sold me, but my luck with the car went horribly south. First, the car was stolen. When I got the car back, the locks had been popped, my stereo ripped out (I had a freakin $120 Pioneer from Wal-Mart) and the police had basically destroyed the interior when they dusted for fingerprints. Since then, the car's been falling apart before my very eyes. Similar Products Used: 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis (that thing was a tank, I loved it, engine blew at 180 thousand miles though) |
