Strength:

Great in Black
Beautiful silky engine (especially if you get an exhaust to free a bit of low rev power).
Notchy gearchange.
Build Quality

Weakness:

Dash lights that flicker on and off at will
Speed you can easily get through front tyres if you're not careful!

What A great car! I've left it standard apart from a LongLife Full S/S exhaust. I find myself hanging around in low gears, just for the opportunity to hear the lovely sound the 2 litre makes , especially at high revs. The punch right through the range and the tight handling kids you into thinking your driving something a lot smaller in size.
The level of kit that you get for the money is amazing.
It's my first 'big' car, seeing as I had a Lancia Delta Turbo and a 205 Gti 1.9 before. It's a good way of having a car that you can have fun with when the mood takes you whilst at the same time you can get out of it after a long motorway journey feeling relaxed and comfortable.

Absolute Bargin!

Strength:

it turns heads at every oppurtunity,is fairly quick for a car its size, comfort is spot on and the engine revs like a sporty hatch back and goes like a bmw

Weakness:

all the interior extras are quite weak ie the ashtray etc ,lights flashing on and off on the dashboard ( cant quite decide wether its got a problem or not) tappety on start up,tweak the accelerator too much in first gear and traction is a no go (thats not a problem !!!!!!!!)

havent had her long ,but for a car which stood for 6 months without being started once she jumped in to life and loves being taken on hard drives utilising the high revving engine to its max .in short you get a whole lot of car for very little money.

Model Reviewed: 164 L

Strength:

The combination of performance, style and function. It has proved reliable and fun, and you don't see one at every stop light. Seems "exotic" but has all the luxury comforts and can be used as a daily family car.

Weakness:

Just as you don't see one at every stoplight, so too you don't find a mechanic (at least with spare parts) on every street. Minor electrics (eg power seat controls) sometimes fail.

Although the parts issue arises occasionally, overall, it has not been a problem. The car has never broken down, and everything works in this 10 year old car. It is "exotic" ("This car turns heads", my 11 year old noted)without being pretentious. Always happy with the car. I will keep it forever...unless Alfa Romeo returns to the US and I can trade for a another Alfa.

It is in a category of its own. It is a modern car from a company with a 75 year+ history.

Strength:

-The most rewarding and fun sports sedan ever. True 155 mph perfomance even with three (highly entertained) passengers. Amazing roadholding and attitude for a 3,350 pound front wheel drive car. Gorgeous engine bay, fantastic exhaust note, nice dual mode ride with auto dampening suspension.
-Stuning looks! (thank you Mr.Pinninfarina)
-Roomy super comfy interior especially with front and rear power heated seats.
-Good value for the money.

Weakness:

-Stepper motors
-Bad quality replacement parts that fail even when new.

I have had a Ton and a half of fun with this car, whether entertaining friends or just having fun driving by myself. The maintenance has been, believe it or not, fun because the car is like a rolling puzzle. You have to know her to figure out what is wrong with her so it can be fixed. Just like a beautiful woman this car takes a lot of expensive maintenance but in the end it is worth every penny.

Model Reviewed: /164 V6 Lusso

Strength:

Super smooth V6 engine, fantastic sharp reponsive handling for a large car plus all the essential toys (elec leather seats, windows, roof, etc). It was supplied from new by Lombarda in London as a special edition with lowered uprated suspension, no chrome, black paintwork with colour coded bumpers and door panels so has unique mean looks.

Weakness:

The useless heating and air unconditioning system. The uprated suspension provides a rock hard ride. Usual flashing warning lights. Loves english petrol at $6 a gallon - 20 mpg in town.

In 2 and a half years of owning the car, it has cost a few pounds fixing suspension bushes, valve clearances, rear calipers and the exhaust system, but it has been worth it. The car is great to drive, is just about unique and has been good value for the price paid. Dealers in the UK are quite scarce and expensive, and there are very few specialists in the midlands. Technical info is very hard to get hold of too.

BMW 5 series - If they looked half as good as the 164, I'd buy one.

GAS HOG! EXPENSIVE PARTS!

This may be one good car, however Alfa Romeo is coming back to the US and the 166 sedan will return by 2006. If you can wait that long it is truly a great car, with a 2.5L twin spark V6 with 260 horse power

Strength:

One of the most unique cars on the road.
Great handling.
Fast.
Beautiful exterior design (by Pininfarina).
Italian character.
Great road feel, wonderful exhaust note.
Reliable if maintained properly.

Weakness:

Fairly reliable automobile, but watch out for electrical problems (seat adjusters, air-conditioning, etc.) Repairs can be slightly pricey. Remember to take it in without fail for routine maintenance - if maintained properly car runs like a dream, if not, breaks apart quickly. If you buy an Alfa then prepare to look after it. It will reward you.

~$7200 for 60000 miles. Definitely recommend. One of the best-handling front-wheel drive cars in the world. Wonderful driving experience. Good website to look for info: http://www.digest.net/alfa/FAQ/164/ If car has sunroof, wind noise at over 70 mph may be annoying. Everything else is perfect. Loads of power and torque, and the L has the base engine! 183 hp. The S model has 200, the LS has 215 and the Q has 230. Great car. Just don't forget the maintenance. Highly recommended (but not too highly, or else the car will lose its uniqueness).
