Strength:

Fast, beautiful car with lots of comfort in the front seats.

Weakness:

Expensive tire replacement. Little annoying problems. Types bumps with little cushion.

Beautiful car. I am getting ready to end the lease. I don't know what I need to do, buy a new one, buy this one, or get something different cause quite frankly for the money I am not that impressed. I haven't had too many major problems. Replaced to headlights. Position light goes on and off even though I can't find any lights out. Needed a computer download since you could step down on the accelerator and nothing would happen. Tires rub the wells and Volvo makes some type of plastic device you can buy ($80) to put inside the fender well so that the tire rubs on it instead of the well?????Been through 3 sets of tires and need the forth after 58,000. Also the repair department had to replace the strut gaskets (seems poorly designed). Horrible clanking and banging nose underneath. I thought this was suppose to be a reliable car.

PROBLEMS PROBLEMS PROBLEMS!! I cannot decide if I am more more discusted by the poor volvo service or by the poor performance and reliability of my volvo. I leased my volvo in 2002(48 months). I drive roughly 20k miles a year but was not concerned because after the lease was over I was going to keep it as my commuter car. BIG MISTAKE! Right after owning the car for about a year I started having strange little problems. My high beams wouldn't stay on, my cruise control wouldnt work. I would turn the car off and back on again and its fine. I really didn't think anything of it, I thought it had to do with the fact that it had been 100+ degrees for 3 days. Fall rolls around. My car randomly will not start. The first time I had it towed to Volvo, great road side assistance, got there in 10 minutes. Volvo arranges a loaner car for me, so far liking the service. The next day I return the rental car, go to pick up my car. Well the cashier tells me that they found nothing wrong with the car, it started fine, here is your bill for the rental car and maintenance on the car, +$200. Why, because the dealership cannot cover the incident under warranty unless they replace a part. The next day my car will not start again. So I have it towed again. When it gets to Volvo it starts right up. This time I did not LET them charge me. The same day I get stuck again, but it starts up. I bring the car right back and tell them to find whats wrong with this P.O.S. I get my car back 2 days later, they say the car is fixed. 1 week later I need to have it towed again. So they fixed the Oring antea which supposidly is faulty with my model. A month later it happens again, stranded at 2:30 in the morning. I had the car towed once again... This time the car finally will not start when its at Volvo, thank the lord! They tell me that the Oring is the problem, they replaced it AGAIN. At the end of this fiasco the GM of the dealership tells me that I should give them an "A" rating on their performance evaluation because they accommodated me and finally fixed the problem! HA! Luckily for this dealership I never got the report card. Infact, I got no response from the letter I wrote to customer service. When I spoke with Volvo customer service when I was having problems with my car, they were supposed to send over a "Volvo" techinican which never happens. The VP of customer service in my area was supposed to contact me, never did. Absolutely no respect for the customer. Three months later, I am happy my car starts when I put the key in. My new problem is the 3 headlights I have had to replace, the 2 position failure lights I had to replace, and now the position failure light is on again(I just picked my car up for this last night!!) and all of the interior lights are flashing on and off. Now there has got to be something wrong with the electrical. It is Thursday and they are closed tomorrow. If my car is not fixed the GM said she cannot give me a car because she does not want the liability of me having the car all weekend while my car is being fixed. Imagine that!! The Award Winning Customer Service that Chase Parkway Volvo is known for!! They would rather I drive my problem stricken car over the weekend with unknown issues over the weekend. There is Volvo's moto for you, Saftey first. BUY A BMW!

Strength:

Comfortable, powerful, contemporary, stylish and fun to drive when not in the shop. If you need new friends buy one and Volvo will provide you with plenty of mechanics to talk to. The service folks were professional, proactive, understanding, prompt, etc.

Weakness:

Overall lack of Quality Control. Blind spots.

They call this a Volvo??? My new fully loaded 2004 S60R bought overseas mid 2003 with point of acceptance delivery in the US was a stylish road rocket if it ever got out of the dealer’s service bay. It is not built for Boston or New England roads or weather. The 300hp 5 cylinder did exactly as promised and with little problems as long as it was drinking premium gas and going in a straight line but the mpg was always like a regularly aspirated V8. Too many intuitive programmed items installed with no manual over rides and this for a car that is billed as a sports car. The DVD navigation system worked like a charm BUT, being locked into AT&T for the integrated phone was such a bloody hassle that I terminated it after one half hour of service and trying to recode it proved maddening. Dead on arrival was the front right light that took over a month to get replaced. Both cute little light wipers that turned themselves on when they felt like it apparently were installed incorrectly which resulted in deep gouging of both light shrouds (another replaced part needing to be ordered) and subsequently having them disconnected permanently after they did it again. The alignment of the trunk lid was incredibly sloppy with excessive gaps and tolerance errors yup, it leaked when opened also. It is a crumble zone nightmare as a less than 1 mph nudge into a low parking stop caused numerous damages to internal plastic and metal. The 17in tire rims very problematic with potholes and quality of their laminate, enough said. Turning diameter is understated as being excessive with grinding of wheels inside well very annoying. Right side mirror could not maintain tension at speed and flubbed about or folded in. Poor quality metal-like interior trim dented easily. Fog lights continually flooded and misted (no dealer resolution). I ordered no daytime running lights so naturally it came with them and no way to disconnect without unknown damage to some other system. No nighttime privacy as lights always on. Volvo gave overseas mediator name, number, and e-mail POC info for me to deal with… this proved a no-go and futile gesture. Sold it, not stored it, at less than 15K miles and went gleefully back to Iraq safe in knowing that I never will buy another Volvo again.

Too many little things are always going wrong. Having to deal with larger problems too soon (transmission, etc). Lack of overall quality and reliability.

BUYER BEWARE!!!! I bought my Volvo new as an entry into the luxury market and it's has been nothing but trouble. Now I wish I chose something else. If you do buy one, get the extended warranty....you'll need it! Here is a list of issues at only 60K: * Transmission replaced at 60K!! * Electrical problems: replaced headlights 3 times, sunroof power, lights for rear license plate * Grinding noise when I turn sharply (Reported each time and they can't find the problem) * Sunroof would pop up at high speeds * Motor for door locks/alarm replaced * Interior panels fell off exposing safety air curtain * Problems with the 17in performance tires * Problem with rear door closing properly For the money I paid, I'm NOT happy with Volvo and will never buy another one. In my opinion, it doesn't have the quality I was expecting.

Interior awsome better than lexus. Style, looks like a bently should. Handling very good for the way I drive, I do not take it to the track, Just the interstate.

Weakness:

The car has a personality disorder with the turbo at los speeds its edgy, twitch, on acceleration, I actually like this bad attitude. AC makes a noise like a strangled chicken when cycling sometimes. Get front brakes pads that do not leave the black stuff onthem after 50 miles. The back seat willnot accomodate atall adult in the back if there is a tall adultinthe front for road trips, day to day basis its fine. Make sure you opt for the cargo net for groceries you can scramble eggs on the way home from grocery store.

I love this used S60 purchase. I purchased the premium package S60 for my wife. I took command of her Ford Explorer, but after driving her 2003 S60; I Traded the Explorer for my S60 2.4T. It has been love at first drive. It has a personality, it does notlike to go slow maybe that's my personality. This car is very fast and very stable it will cruise at high velocites american cars(ie mercury sable) can only dream of "safely" and of course as traffic permits. It is a refined paragon of luxury, the fit and finish are the best I have experienced. At lower velocities it is a real cruiser very comfortable with impeccable manners. Took it up AIA with my family on the beach a memorable family event , the care was seamless in operation ( the way it should be) - if you don't race at the local track or have nitrous attached to your current vehicle - and have kids to protect - buty it

We owned an Acura Legend for 11yrs and it was nver in shop. My Volvo S60 has been in the shop for the same thing 6 times. Don't get the backup sensors installed on the car by Volvo, it's never worked on my car!

Strength:

Great acceleration, super ride with nice wushing sound at speed. Great sound system. Seats - just superb. Love the thick beams to support roof - you can see it. Car makes you feel you sit in a vault with windows - nice feel.

Weakness:

Clunky sound when shifting. Power steering already went out (12,000 miles) and my drive way got flooded. Turning radius - baaaaaad.

After driving a Volco S80 T6 for three years and being completely frustated with its problems I chose a T5 knowing that it came from the legendary line of 850's in refined version. And refined it is: from styling to trunkspace, quality and layout - just $ for $ nothing comparable out there. Driving is a blast especially the satisfaction you get when you as an unsuspecting volvo driver blast BMW 528 AND 330 AND Mercedes 320 and just about BMW 540. Turbo lag is almost nonexistent - some of it thanks to a well distributed gear ratio and tight rearbox. Shifting is as smooth as butter. The car feels tight and solid. Suspension is stiff - but front end should lean a little less when cornering at healthy speed. I intend to keep this car for long time - unless problems do become overwhelming just like with my previous T6.

Strength:

Contempary yet classic styling, nice interior, stiff yet unexpectidly comfortable seats. The base engine has enough "pick-up" for me. Bottom line....bought it because of the safety features. Guess I can't have everything!

Weakness:

Steering is not as smooth as I would like. For the price it should include a multi-CD changer. The cupholders in the front could br improved by having that cover slide down instead of sticking up making it unaccesible for the passenger. Also would like the "rolling locks" feature.

Overall good solid car. Impressed so far when compared with Nissan or Toyota.

Handling, acceleration, quiet engine, nicely appointed with good ergonomics.

Weakness:

Oh My God - first year began to have problems with jerking starts from stop position at redlights. Took it back to dealer numerous times for electrical problems. Had to replace computer, both side mirrors, steering column, both front seat electric controls, and just recently, dealer put in a remanded transmission. Car is less than 2 years old and only has 11k miles. Where did I go wrong? The real kicker - we sold a 1972 Volvo with over 300k miles to buy this new one. I would have given anything to have kept my money and rebuilt the engine in the old pumpkin. Dealer has worked hard to fix this car up, but if we have one more problem, will probably go to arbitration for lemon car. I regret ever seeing this car.

Fell in love with the sleek desgin and the awesome sound system. The quick acceleration was great and at first, road noise was minimal. The climate control worked well for smouldering summers down here. Decent gas mileage. Love the leather seats and very roomy interior, driver and passenger seat,
