S60
Strength:
The shape and handling and performance is good!
Weakness:
The had my share of sport sadan cars and this one,(S60 AWD 2.5T) is very touchy. everything gets damage its so cheap the interior and tie rod or bushing is making noise again. it only had 18000 miles when stupid things would go bad head lamps, rear bulbs, shaking in the steering wheel and come on it scratches so freaking easy to do on the interior. A mechanic from volvo told me one that volvo designs every part is design to come apart for replacement. I guess they make a fortune on this. Similar Products Used: from the paint to the cnsole to the lamps to the latest the automatic button that controls drive rear selection is broken.

Strength:
Excellent driving and ride
Weakness:
High running costs Bought my S60 7 years ago. The first 3 years were ok..just maintenance costs. Then... forget it: I have replaced everything there is to be replaced regarding steering and suspension (struts (upper and lower) arm bushes, suspension springs). Then other parts started to fail: water pump, brake pump, fuel pump. Then the cooling system-radiator and fan. Of course Oil cooler had to be replaced and last week I had to replace one of the five engine coil... Thanks VOLVO for teaching me new words! The funny thing is that 2 close friends of mine have the same models and suffer the same!! VOLVO...? No thanks!!! |

Strength:
good looks petty engine, not bad in the snow
Weakness:
steering problems since day one. tie rods failed at 40000 miles and steering control arm bushings failed at 50000 miles, much too early for this car. Plastic radiator cracked
I wouldnt buy this one again. a big mistake. Save 10-15000 dollar and buy a Japan built car or domestic. Similar Products Used: I also have a 2006 Volvo S40. so far ok under warranty. ill probally extend it for two more years. |

Strength:
Confortable, safe and fuel eficient
Weakness:
Not good quality, parts do not last specially suspension parts I bought a brand new Volvo S60,as soon as the car had one year of use everything started to come apart and since then every year the repair expenses have been very high. The car is not made to last at this point I would have prefered to buy a BMW or a Mercedes... Bad Choice |

Bought my 2005 S-60 2.4 Non Turbo in May of 07 with 27K on it. It was on a Chevy lot, and they were basically giving it away, so I decided to take a chance. 40,000 hard miles later- I'm thrilled I did. I used to drive trucks exclusively because I am so hard on cars. This car has been repeatedly put to the test. I have the front wheel drive version and had no problems in almost a foot of snow. It's not a rocket, but my other car is a Porsche, so that's OK. I've gotten 38 MPG on road trips going between 70-80 the whole way. Excellent value for the money. Brakes and tires are the only thing I have had to replace. Original tires lasted to 55k- I never rotated them and they never went out of balance. Just traded in my wife's 05 Acura for a fully loaded 09 S-60. I have had almost 2 dozen cars, and there is simply not a car out there as durable, overbuilt, safe, and high quality as the Volvo. It's not the ultimate driving machine, but it is comfortable and responsive- and peppy with the turbo. The back seat is small, but I never sit in the back of my own cars. I can't wait to be in the high mileage club. I don't know how anyone could have problems with this car- I have yet to see anyone who drives harder than I do on a regular basis. S60t AWD
Strength:
Reliable, great styling, plenty powerful after upgrade, handled very well after bilsteins were installed. Great interior, amazingly comfortable seats. Really its been a great car.
Weakness:
Clear coat on the paint has gone bad. The front turn signals went bad, found out it was this plastic connector, replaced it for $9 it never went bad again. I purchased the car used in 2004 as a daily driver while i worked on my other funner cars. I bought it on recommendation from a friend that just loved his. I test drove it found it a little sloshy, but plenty powerful, comfortable, well made, and good on gas. I have previously owned all manners of European cars MB, BMW, VW, and more. I found it to be a very reliable and wonderful car. I am a shade tree mechanic and have never taken a car in to get fixed in my life. In the time I owned the car I kept up on maintenance, changing filters and fluids as needed. Replaced the timing belt and suspension as I felt necessary. The car is incredibly comfortable and I will probably buy another one. If you do purchase one and it is a turbo. Make sure to get the car chipped or get and APC for it. That gave my car an extra 40hp or so. And if you decide to replace the shocks after they wear outgo with Bilstein HD's and you will ahve a car that is plenty fast and handles very well.

Volvo S60
Strength:
Refined looks, comfortable ride, especially the driver's seat.
Weakness:
Mechanical disasters aplenty, rides like my father's Oldsmobile, allergic to snow and ice. Testimony for reasons not to buy a used car. This S60 had 39,000 miles on it when purchased in 07. I've come to the conclusion that it is a poorly built car that wasn't treated kindly by it's previous owner. Like a dog gotten from the pound after being liberated from an undeserving owner, the S60 seems to be out to assault me and my wallet. Here's how:

Strength:
Reliable, good on fuel economy (8.9l/100km on average in auto version). Lovely design outside (award winnner), very nice place to sit in. Safety is excellent.
Weakness:
Rear view a bit difficult when reversing. Real head turner that has a visual 'wow factor'. Very pretty from rear views. Excellent for motoring interstate on cruise control, extremely comfortable and relaxing drive. Over past 2 yrs have averaged overall 8.9l/100km. Absolutely no problems with anything mechanical, totally reliable and trouble free. However, brakes take a bit of getting used to, seem over-servoed. Strength:
Nice ride and good styling
Weakness:
Poor trunk access. Exceptionally weak design on electrical system and also poor design of suspension system. The electrcial system is crap. Headlights and tail lights are always blowing (that is when they aren't getting loose in a poorly constructed socket and giving false error messages). Now I am being told that a pigtail cannot be ordered to fix the cheap pins on the right turn signal and that an entire engine wiring harness must be purchased and installed ($1,200 for parts and the sky is hte limit on labor) by the Scott Volve Mazda "service" department. This ina ddition to my third set of strut mounts in 110,00miles and a second sway bar (one of each was covered under waranty) and countless brake jobs. I drive slowly and not aggressively. I will never purchase a Volvo again based on a poorly designed product and even poorer dealer service. |
