Strength:

- Harmon Kardon sound system. - Interior design, fit and finish is excellent. - SAAB does some neat creature comfort things in the way the car operates. - You will absolutely love this car when it is running okay.

Weakness:

- Reliability, too much goes wrong, too often. - Needs a steering wheel heater.

Like many opinions already expressed, love the car when it's running, probably the nicest car to drive I've owned yet. Unfortunately, I was looking to buy a new car that I could just drive for 3 years. This car has spent more time at the dealer than ANY vehicle I've owned (age = mid 40's). List of problems includes a 3 inch thick file at the dealer. Bought the car new, all service according to manual at dealer and it has only 90k km. List of problems includes premature brake wear (ok now), SID display replaced 4 times, T7 Trionics computer replaced twice, cruise control operation erratic, would not start (stranded, computer problem again), turbo replaced ($2k, thank goodness for warr), constantly catching leaves in fan blower unit (need dealer to clean out), replaced ds headlamp wiper motor. Now car needs a new throttle body ($1k). All this and smaller annoyances (ie: replace in dash cup holder) with less than 60k miles on it!! SAAB you have really pissed me off! Now that it is out of warranty I HAVE to get rid of it.

Strength:

Reliable. Excellent accelaration. Great passing power. Afterburner heater. Great stereo.

Weakness:

The cupholder is good looking but could be more functional. The key in the center console limits the available storage space. The radio controls on the steering wheel should have a button to change bands. And, most importantly, the tires give off too much road noise for a luxury car.

Such a well balanced car. Does everything well. The car is very comfortable, handles well and has great power. It has much more interior room than it looks like from the outside. Plenty of elbow room and leg room. Huge trunk. In 14 months the car has had virtually no service issues. The turbo 6 gives incredible passing power, especially in "sport" mode. It pushes you back in your seat. Not as powerful as the Aero, but has better accelaration from a full stop. The seats are heated for the winter and ventilated for the summer. The onboard computer info is good, though a bit complex to use. The car has an "afterburner" - push a button after shutting the car down and it blows the remaining heat for 20 minutes or so. If you are running errands in the winter this is great! (only avail on the V6).

Strength:

When it runs, it drives beautifully - that's what attracted me to the car in the first place. Plenty of attachment points to drag it onto a flatbed tow truck. Also, all of the different types of rental cars I've been able to experience while the Saab makes one of its frequent visits to the Dirito Bros service bay. And, I couldn't neglect to mention the pounds of Zen-like, hip Saab advertising on that nice thick paper stock that clogs my mailbox with regularity.

Weakness:

Reliability, quality control, SAAB customer service. Honestly, I've received MUCh better mfg customer and dealer service from my local Honda dealer in addressing the few problems I've had with my lowly Accord.

I WANTED to like this car for the longest time, but it kept letting me down! Now I just want it to go away. Unreliable and idiosyncratic, it has been in the shop far too often in the last two and one half years. Car is plagued with mysterious electrical problems (resulting in roadside breakdowns), recurring oil leaks, turbo failure and driveability issues. I expected FAR greater reliability and satisfaction from a car in this class. Saab customer service has been extremely disappointing (read- atrocious)as well - their response to the numerous breakdowns the car has suffered has been to cite the benefit of free towing and an "excellent warranty"!?!?! Infuriating! I'm counting the days until the lease expires.

I did extesive internet research as well as test driving at dealers. The 9-5 was the best choice for a safe, comfortable, sporty, and affordable wagon. I liked it so much that the next year I bought my wife one.

Strength:

Reliable as they come. Love the extra heater the car has that can be used after the key has been removed to keep the car warm while you're inside a store for a short time. Excellent handling, and a very good snow car. Heated and cooled seats make this car wonderful in any climate!

Weakness:

I find the cupholder quite handy as it is out of the way, but why can't there be 2? The one in the console just takes up way too much space.

I purchased this vehicle after having an unpleasant experience with a 1997 Volvo 850 Turbowagon. I looked around and decided that the 9-5 offered everything for a reasonable price. I am a mother of 2, with a full time job as a traveling nurse. I have put over 97,000 miles on this car so far and have had very little trouble out of it. The brakes have consistantly needed changing every 30,000 miles, the rotors were replaced at 60,000. I have had my DI (Direct Ignition), which monitors the engine, replaced at 48,000 miles under warranty. I had a problem with the CD player skipping, but after my second complaint to the dealer they replaced it for free. I had the timing belt replaced at 60,000 miles as SAAB suggests, and they paid for it. The V6 turbo engine has lots of strength at any elevation. It has never left me stranded, more than I can say for the Volvo. I have also driven the lower end 4 cylinder turbo and did not care for the vibrations and the 4 cylinder sound. I find the cargo area of this wagon much more user friendly and better thought out than my previous Volvo and wagons from other makers. The car as held up for nearly 100,000 miles flawlessly. I plan on driving this for another 100,000 miles, and then I will be returning to SAAB for another!

Strength:

Driving experience is sublime! The quality of ride, construction, styling, handling, sound and comfort are all excellent. The braking system and the Gislaved snow tires are safe and responsive (avoided a deer due to their stellar performance).

Weakness:

Poor rear visibility, lacks spare change compartment, leather interior is wonderful for humans but not suited for dogs. I'd appreciate any suggestions concerning the back seat and my golden. Blankets slide off and her dog bed is too cumbersome to haul to and fro.

I love my Saab 9-5 SE! The car is a gem in all ways; looked long and hard at the Audi A6 and the Volvo but for quality, price, features, warranty and joy of driving, the 9-5 SE triumphed. The exterior is sleek, the safety is unmatched, the interior is plush, well appointed and roomy, the brakes and steering are smooth and responsive, the sound system is rich and the seats are comfortable, supportive and toasty warm. The overall feeling of safety, quality, power and handling add up to a peak experience every time I get behind the wheel. I opted for the Saab 60000 mile extended warranty. Cost an additional $1000 but well worth the peace of mind. Quality service is key; important to find a reliable, responsive and capable Saab dealer and /or mechanic. I lucked out finding Crossway Saab; they're skilled, honest and friendly.

Overall, this is an incredible car to drive. From performance to luxury; and rated one of the safest cars in the world. Our other car is a newer BMW 3..great car, but the 9-5 AERO overall is more enjoyable to drive.

Strength:

Good use of horse power on 4 cylinder. But the fact that it is 4 cylinder doesn't make you feel powerful when accelarating. Sometimes feels like a Geo Metro with air plane pick-up.

Weakness:

"Car with zero reliability". Stayed in the dealership so often that I feel the dealer owns it more than me. Steering problems, real bad electronics, paint peeling specially on the bumpers. Bad brake dust. I am selling it but nobody is willing to buy it at the price I ask. Thanks to General Motors !

Nice looking car. Great interior but less leg room. Nice to drive until it stops working (which happened often to me). The car loves to stay with the dealership and loves to stay brand new. I guess that is the only reason it keeps asking for new parts and service. If you don't like this fact, stay away from this car .. as simple as that.

Strength:

Tough to determine the strengths of a car when it's in the shop 2 out of the 4 months I've owned it.

Weakness:

Pick a part and it will eventually give you trouble.

RUN FROM THIS CAR! We've had the car 4 months and it's been in the shop 9, yes 9, times. Transmission blew in 2nd week, xmission leak for the past 3 months, electric seat adjustments stopped working, brake lights stopped working.
